Magic on velox is a form of life energy. It is believed that all things have magical energy, called a soul. This soul is what defines what and how something should be. Rocks are heavy and Trees reach for the sun because their soul tells them that is how they should be.

Raptors use their own magic or soul to cast spells. Spells manipulate the soul of other things to alter their rules. This can be a tough skill to master, but all Raptors can learn to do it with practice.

The larger, more drastic and longer the change one wishes to make scales significantly. If enough magic is used changes can be made permanent. Otherwise it will return to its natural soul state over time.

One's magical limit is determined at birth and there is no way to gain more, other than Emergence. Meaning one must learn their limits and stick within them to avoid over use and recoil damage.

Magic is supremely useful and is used commonly for all manner of small and temporary spell to improve life in many ways. Physical buffs, increased healing, aided flight, shaping materials, ect, are some common uses.

Enchantment, or permanent, magical changes to non-living items can be archived only with great precision or massive magic costs. It is uncommon for non Monarch raptors to be able to enchant. Though some skilled raptors can achieve small enchantments.

Souls always like to return to their default state, particularly so with living things. As such unless an enchantment is achieved, it will return to normal over time. So more magic must be put into a spell to increase its duration.

  • Augmentation
    • Buff or de-buff ones physical ability.
    • Commonly used to increase ones strength, speed, agility, ect when preforming physical tasks.
    • For raptors with wings flight also falls here and is preformed usually by reducing one's weight for a time.
  • Healing
    • Speed up the healing process.
    • Typically used for minor/moderate injury and first aide to larger injury.
  • Illusion
    • Create special effects.
    • Commonly used to trick prey or confuse enemies when hunting or confuse dangerous animals in the wild.
    • Sometimes used for entertainment.
  • Elemental
    • Enforces your will onto elemental forces of nature.
      • Example: Fire, Water, Earth & Air
    • Commonly used for task such as watering fields, attacking, lifting objects, and flight.
    • This form works by manipulation of existing elements and does no create them.
  • Transmutation
    • Alter the state of one thing to another.
    • This can apply to to anything from minerals to ones own body.
    • Commonly used in metal working and other such trades.
    • As with enchanting, this also is complex and can be draining but can be done with proper training and Foci on smaller scale.
  • Divination
    • Determine information and/or find things.
    • Commonly used to identify items. Not only seeing through any illusions but being able to basically read what something is and its quality.
    • Can also be used as a locator spell. Provided one has something of the one they wish to find they can be guided in their direction.
  • Enchantment
    • Permanently affix effects to non living/flesh objects.
    • This is how Magic Tools are created.
    • Most enchanting is typically done by monarchs.
    • Enchantments work better on certain materials that are more receptive to the modification of their own energy.

Foci are words and items that help to channel the energy used when preforming magic. They can greatly cut the cost of magic use especially when both verbal and physical foci are used.

The spoken word is a great help in focusing the mind. Simply speaking your intent aloud will help reduce energy waste of a spell.

Incantations tend to work best with short clear phrases. This often leads to commonly used phrases as they are well known and quick. However, one can always come up with something on their own that helps them form a clear mental image of the goal they are trying to archive.

Having a physical item to focus on when using magic helps as well, acting as a sort of lens. Better yet if the item naturally has focusing properties. The best known and widely used physical focusers are gemstones.

Most gems make magical focusing more easy and efficient process. Some types of stones have been observed to work best with certain types of magic.

Physical foci are also best worn or held near that which one is focusing magic on. For example an anklet for speed boost or holding the item near the wound one is trying to close.

Veloxi magic is the core of everything from rock to raptors, they all have a sort of magical DNA that determines what and how they function. This magical center is commonly known as the soul and while all things have this core some are much more complex than others. This magical soul is resilient in all things and even when disturbed tends to slowly return to it's default state. Quite insane amounts of magic need to be used to create permanent effects on anything beyond the raw elements.

Creatures that have mana reserves can expend this energy to essentially reprogram these souls to create various effects. They may also utilize several types of foci that will focus their mana and make it more efficient.

The Raw Elements

Fire, Water, Earth/Dirt, Stone, Air, energy/magic?
