Foal: blue
Foal Name: Vapor Breeze
How Do They Feel: It’s… complicated. There’s a feeling within him that he should have grown, but it almost seems clouded and obscured in the back of his mind. That something should have happened by now but it feels so hazy… he can never actually wrap his mind around it. And being a “perma” foal, it can be both a good and a bad thing, but mostly gray. He often will have tantrum’s and outbursts that he knows he shouldn’t be having, that he should be able to control himself better, that he knows better but he just… can’t. It’s not as though he doesn’t know that it’s happening, but his brain and his body just don’t seem to communicate at times.
And then there are times where he’s happy to be a foal. Even if he isn’t as tall as normal adults he can still fly for a bit, go on adventures, and his brain seems to be more mature than his body. He is still learning, but isn’t every pony throughout their lifetime? He can have full conversations with others, being a foal hasn’t diminished what he knows in any way and well, often times he probably knows a bit more than he should! Other ponies who do not know about his “perma” status often talk about things that perhaps little foals shouldn’t hear, which gives him more secretive knowledge too.
Still though, while he may still become smarter, there is a part of his mind that seems to refuse to develop. Perhaps it’s because he doesn’t have as much room in his head as an adult, perhaps it’s because his brain hasn’t been fully allowed to develop, but often times he’ll find himself at odds of what he should be and what he is. And he can’t say that it doesn’t bother him…
How Did They Get the Necklace: There was a time when Vapor was just an ordinary little foal. He would play with his friends, go on adventures, get in trouble just like every other foal, it was… peaceful. That is, until the village that he lived in got a mysterious visitor. The adult ponies had been wary at first, the stranger kept a cloak over their heads and bodies and nopony was able to tell what they really were. Still, the stranger managed to bring in all of the adults with their honeyed words and mysterious wares, which included some mysterious necklaces.
What the stranger sold was strange and puzzling and most ponies did not know what to do with them. The stranger however told them that they could solve whatever problems the particular pony may have had, they just needed to follow some instructions.
This differed with every object, no two objects, if they were different, had the same ones. Sometimes it was burying it one’s field for a better crop, other times it was putting it underneath one’s bed for uh… fertility. Putting it in a pony’s kitchen to help with cooking, etc. Nothing that would give fantastical and amazing results, but that would be helpful. The stranger was only trying to sell their wares after all. They had enchantments on them, nothing an ordinary Unicorn couldn’t do, but he specialized in them.
But there were a few wares that he warned everypony of, especially the foals. It was some necklaces, which seemed to have a strange symbol on them. He warned them that these were not to be played with. These were special and that once a pony put them on, they could never be taken off without a great deal of effort and finding the right pony to remove the spell. These peculiar necklaces had been created by a pony wanting to create servants who could never escape from him. They would never be strong enough to do so. Eventually though, the pony had passed, and his servants did too, leaving only the necklaces behind. The stranger pony had found it on his travels and read books within the crumbling castle about what had happened. He had been intrigued by them and kept them with him while he was travelling, knowing that if anypony else had gotten them, they could be used for evil and dark purposes…
Who cared though! The foals certainly didn’t! Which is why they dared Vapor to go and take one of the necklaces and put it on! Forgetting that the stranger had said he would be gone by dawn the next day.
The small pegasus foal snuck into his cart during the night and managed to take one of the necklaces, putting it on his neck and proudly showing it to his friends the next morning. They then started begging him to give it to them to try on to just see what this “curse” really was since Vapor did not appear to be “cursed”.
Vapor gladly gave the necklace to his friends to try on. Or at least he would have, if he could take it off! But it was too late, the necklace was stuck, and the mysterious stranger was nowhere to be found. Nopony could do anything about it and seeing as they didn’t know what the curse was and Vapor didn’t seem to be the worse for wear, nopony worried about it.
It was only when his friends and those who were younger than he started to grow up all around him while he stayed as a foal that they realized something was wrong. Vapor… never grew. He certainly learned as much as the adults and others too, but his body wouldn’t grow.
They realized what the curse was then, and exiled Vapor out of the village, afraid of the foal, wondering if there was anything else that the curse would do. Could it happen to the whole village? Was there more to come? Nopony knew and nopony wanted to take a chance. Vapor understood but was also upset. Now he can only wander, wondering if there are others like him and wondering if he can find somewhere to live that can either relieve him or help him to live with his curse…
