Pokémon Training

Pokémon don't start out as best friends or in-tune with their trainers. It takes a lot of work and dedication to reach those goals, and the best partnerships come from hard work on both pokémon and human side of the equation. Training is one of the core aspects of the experience - after all, aren't people who work with pokémon called "trainers" for one reason or another?

What is Training?

Training is explicitly for increasing your pokémon's ranks. A mon's rank isn't only a judgment of its pure physical prowess, it's also an indicator of its ability to work with its trainer's capability. A pokémon whose rank is below its trainer's is not only physically weaker, but it's also not quite in tune with its partner's abilities; similarly, a mon whose rank is above its partner's may be quite strong, but doesn't respect or may simply be viewed by outsiders as "better" than what that person can handle.

A training session deals with the former, showing a snippet of a trainer's diligence in teaching their weaker partners how to work together - both with them and other pokémon - as well as the physical effort taken to increase their strength. While most people associate training with a workout or battle routine, in reality it can also be activities focused on increasing teamwork or understanding of one another. Being a master trainer is, after all, about far more than simple raw strength.

Technical Explanation

A training session is a solo roleplay between your character and their pokémon. It should be a minimum of 250 words, and a single session gives rewards up to 750 words. Currently, training focuses on only one trainer, so it shouldn't be done with others. There are no plans currently to make training sessions available to groups, as Expeditions and general RP allows for group interaction.

Each player may submit up to three training sessions a day. This is cumulative; you don't get more sessions for more characters. A training session of at least 250 words will grant the player a Training Certificate; an additional 250 words will grant a second, and a final 250 words will grant a third. This means you can earn up to 9 Training Certificates a day, maximum.

This is the only way to obtain Training Certificates.

Note that you can pre-write training sessions if desired, but you may not submit them until you have allotments for the day. This means if you want to write nine training sessions on Saturday, you can then submit three on Saturday, three on Monday, and three on Tuesday. This allowance is to let people who may only have specific days of motivation or availability to train their pokémon alongside those who can write a bit every day.

Quick Rules

  • Training sessions should be done in a character's training journal.
  • One post should be one session.
  • A session must include interaction between at least one pokémon and the trainer.
  • When submitting a session, link to the session you're turning in for credit.
  • Training sessions may not be submitted as RP for trainer rank ups. They are only for obtaining Training Certificates.

Getting and Using Training Certificates

Once you've completed training and you're ready to submit it, take it over to the Training Submission thread and fill out the form for each submission. Your forms will be checked and Training Certificates will be added to your account for every successful session.

Note you won't be told explicitly that you are getting the Certificates, but a moderator will mark your post as completed when it's approved. After that, you can freely use your Certificates once you have enough to rank your pokémon up! Congratulations!

Pokémon rank can be raised using the bot in the Discord server. Please note, there's no restriction tying Certificates to any one character; you can use Certificates earned from Joe to raise Bob's mon ranks, and vice versa.
