Journeys

Once a location has been cleared by the forward explorations, it is considered to be a bit safer for more relaxed visitation. While the area is still very much wild, trainers have known footpaths and decently mapped knowledge of aggressive pokémon nest sites, meaning that they can head out much more casually than before.

Players can embark on Community Journeys to unlocked areas to have a more laid back approach to exploration. In this mode, you don't have to worry nearly as much about stats or mathematics - all you have to worry about is writing your characters and making a fun story of exploration! You can even find things that you'd be able to find in normal exploration, though understandably with a slightly different means of acquisition.

All non-critical events and stories that happen in the exploration are up to you, and you can play with as many people along as you'd like. Once you reach a certain threshold of words for the thread, you can roll a major group event,, allowing you an opportunity to encounter something special! This can happen as many times as you keep writing the story - every time the threshold is met, your exploration can roll another group event.

In addition to group event rewards, you will also be able to earn faction credits for your word count like you would via research! The amounts are slightly lower, since you have chances to earn pokémon and special items, but are still based on how much you write per person.

Let us make an important distinction: Group events are based on the total words written in the thread by all players, even though the requirement is based on number of players. If you have a requirement of 5000 words, one person could write 4000 of those and it would still count as long as the other 1000 were written somewhere. Faction credit rewards are based on individual writing only. If one person writes 2500 words, they get a 2500 word reward. No one else may use their 2500 in their count.

Please see below for types of Group Events and their roll charts!

In order to start a journey, please have one member of the group post this form as the header post in a new thread in the Expeditions and Research subforum. Make sure that your thread has the [Journey] tag and when you're done, mark it as [Complete]!

Code:
[b]A Journey Through:[/b] (area name)
[b]Joining Today:[/b] (character name+PE site link)
[b]Played By:[/b] (player's BS username)
[b]Accompanied By:[/b]
(pokemon name+PE site link, up to 6, one per line, must be equal to or less than trainer's rank)

(repeat form for each character coming along! you do not have to list items you're bringing - we'll just deduct them directly from your account and ignore your catches if you don't have one!)

Group Events
Keep in mind that all group events are designed as the general overview - you fight this, find this, and so on - but the actual stories and way they play out are totally up to the players to decide. Feel free to make up any actions pertaining to wild pokémon as fits the journey you're crafting, so long as it fits the final outcome!

Also note: Group events are optional and you can trigger them at any time; they also stack over the life of the thread, so if you have three, you can trigger them one after the other for maximum drama! Or if you prefer, you can trigger them as you get them ... or maybe after a rousing defeat you choose not to trigger any at all. Any usage is fine, but remember - they don't carry over to new journeys, so if you want to use one, do it before the thread ends!

Any one thread may only have a total of five group events trigger in it, however, no matter how you stack them (or don't!). Consider your characters to be needing to return to town or at the very least settle down for the night at this point.

A note about catching pokémon: Each player may bring up to 3 research balls with them (CS 5) totally for free for each journey. Pokémon caught in research balls cannot be kept but can be turned in for points!

Earning Triggers
One GE trigger is earned for the thread per 500 words per player. That means for three players, you need 1500 words to earn a trigger; for 5 players, you need 2500. This is total for all players, as noted above, but does not have to be written out equally. One person can write 80% of the words per thread if they want to!

Calculation text does not count for this total, so please do all event rolls separately from actually writing out the results of those rolls!

Note there isn't currently a limit of characters per player, but this may be changed if needed. All event calculations are for player count, however - even if you're playing 5 characters, you can still only find 1 item or 1 pokémon per player at a time!

Find an item!
The players find a cache of one or more items either hidden, dropped, or stashed out in the wilderness. Each player should roll one of their characters' INS + Alert; if a player's number of successes meet or exceed the difficulty for the event listed in the roll table, then they can claim one of that item when you turn the journey in!

Players that pass the rolls may all take an item; it is not restricted to just one per event.

Startle a pokémon!
The players startle one or more wild pokémon, sending them scurrying away! Roll what pokémon you encounter, then each player who has a pokéball on them may make a Quick Catch by rolling the ball's Catch Score + their trainer's Throw skill. If your number of successes match or exceed the difficulty for the pokémon rolled, then they catch one of those pokémon! Each player may attempt a catch and may independently catch a pokémon.

You are not required to attempt a catch if you do not want the pokémon.

If you do attempt but fail, you must roll the ball's Break Score. If you don't roll at least 1 success, you lose the ball!

These pokémon are rolled to check for shininess!

Pokémon attack!
The players are attacked by wild pokémon. These pokémon feel threatened or are defending their homes, and they won't back down - meaning everyone must participate in a Quick Battle. First, roll which encounter you're getting from the pokémon table and note its QB score. Then each player picks a move from one of their pokémon and rolls that move's To-Hit dice. If the number of successes meets or exceeds the foes' QB score, then the battle is won! Any player with a ball may then make a Quick Catch per the rules above. If the players' total was 2 greater than the QB score, roll the QC with a +1 automatic success; if the players' total was 5 greater than the QB score, add another +1 for +2 automatic successes instead.

Each player may roll for a pokémon catch as long as they rolled at least one success on their attack.

A few rules for catching as follows:

  1. If you are playing multiple characters, you must roll the owner of the pokémon that you rolled their attack.

  2. Any pokémon that rolled three or more successes on its attack may count this as a Victory. Please note it.

  3. If you attempt to catch but fail, you must roll the ball's Break Score. If you don't roll at least one success, you lose the ball!

  4. If the battle is not won, the journey does not need to end, but no pokémon may be caught and no Victory points will be applied.

Special events!
Sometimes special events take place in specific areas. If you roll one of these, roll on its chart and proceed as directed in the instructions. These are limited time happenings that only take place for a limited time - so try and get in on the action as soon as you can!

Turning In

Once your journey is complete, all players need to tally up their individual scores and post the form at the end of your thread, then have the OP mark the thread as [Complete]. Each player will be rewarded credits with the faction of their choice for their exploration notes and observations, and any items or pokémon obtained will be added to your account!

You may only have one character claim faction credit, and one character claim the goodwill points for completing an activity. If you are playing more than one, you must choose who gets what in the final post.

You do not need to add the number to your post, but for your own reference you will earn points per the following tier list; remember that writing more than the highest tier does not get you extra points:

WordsFaction Credit
5003
10005
250012
500024

In addition, if you turn in any found items or pokémon, you can earn points per the following rate:

Task/ItemFaction Credit
Bringing a pokémon in a research ball1
Bringing an item0.25
Donating a fusion shard5
Donating a fusion crystal10

The Form
Code:
[b]Total Words:[/b] (no roll posts included)
[b]Faction to turn in to:[/b] (Fairlight/URA/VCA)
[b]Character to recieve Faction Goodwill:[/b] (character name+link)
[b]Items Found:[/b]
(please note items as Item Name and link to where you rolled it)
[b]Items Used:[/b]
(please note any consumable items used, including broken pokéballs but NOT successful catches since those will be deducted in the caught section)
[b]Items Turning In:[/b]
(which you're not keeping; some items MUST be turned in and will be noted in the event chart)
[b]Pokémon Caught (Ball):[/b]
(please note pokemon as Name (Ball Type) <Keeping/Handing Over> and link to where they were caught)
