- Got really into attending contests as a kid, and became infatuated with them
- Geared his schooling more towards whatever could help him with contests as he grew older
- Made sure to also keep his Poke'mon in tip top shape for family's sake
- Was raised with incredibly high standards, and even though he didn't go into what the rest of the family did, he was still expected to keep the high standards
- Grew increasingly close with his shiny Dratini, and when it evolved, he couldn't have been happier
- Graduated schooling with top marks (well, not top of his class, but he did pass everything)
- Began his traveling contest career and slowly gathered more and more Poke'mon
