[CA] Leandra Liberty "Libby" Larsen [UPDATED - MOD READY]

Application for a character created for the Everyone Welcome the NRC event!

Picrew

Character Name: Leandra Liberty "Libby" Larsen

Pronoun Choice: She/Her

Age: Twenty-Four (but she'll play younger when she can, if she thinks it'll make people underestimate her or let her off on something)

Home Region: Kanto (Celadon City)

Character Overview:
If asked, her peers would probably have described Libby as a little bit mean, and a little bit stupid, but a lot of fun. She was certainly clever, and had a knack for creative problem solving that made her a valuable asset on teams. However, she was also very easily distracted and/or swayed by a pretty girl. She also tended not to take things very seriously, and has poor impulse control, which could be annoying for her more business minded coworkers. Socially Libby has always been very easy going and tended to make friends quickly, although her interactions were often quite shallow and she didn't tend to make many strong connections. She's always the first to suggest something reckless, and she's never turned down a dare. Libby also has a bit of a chip on her shoulder, and knows how to hold a grudge. She has limited respect for any authority that expects you to follow it "just because" (like the law), but she is too much of a coward to rebel against authority that will actually back their authority up with actions (like her bosses).

Five Likes:
  • Bug / Grass / Poison Type Pokemon
  • Pink (but claims her favourite colour is Black)
  • Melon Soda
  • Heelies
  • Big Soft Ti-... Pillows 👀 ...

Five Dislikes:
  • Mushrooms / Asparagus / Spinach
  • Jazz Music
  • Historical War Movies
  • "Roughing It" Outdoors
  • Fire Type Pokemon

Hobbies:
  • Committing Minor Acts of Vandalism Committing Minor Acts of Community Service
  • Specialized Pokemon Training (Criminal, Mostly)
  • Flower Arranging
  • Daily Word Puzzle Games on her Phone
  • Appreciation of the Feminine Form

Three Strengths:
  • Everything You Could Want Her to Be - Libby is very charming; she's easy to like, and makes friends quickly. Of course... it's mostly fake. She is genuinely outgoing and social, but what she's really good at is reading people and figuring out how to present herself in a way people will take to. It's a skill she has historically used more for criminal pursuits than making genuine connections. Still a strength though.
  • Smarter than People Give Her Credit For - Libby can come off as a bit of an airhead, and that isn't an unfair assumption. Her formal schooling is limited, and she's not the most attentive person on the planet, but she's a quick and creative thinker with a good intuitive understanding of things. She has a natural intelligence that probably would have served her very well, if she'd ever cultivated it. As it is, it's mostly useful for getting herself out of tricky scrapes.
  • Never Lets an Opportunity Pass Her By - What she lacks in critical thinking and book smarts, Libby more than makes up for Sheer Audacity. She is an opportunist at her core and is always looking for an angle to play. This may occasionally (frequently) backfire on her, but it works in her favour more often than not. Getting by on your wits requires being able to change plans on the fly, and strike while the iron is hot.
  • An Eye for Aesthetics - Obviously, Libby is far too Cool to be into stilly girly things like... flowers and decorating and art... but if she was, she'd have a pretty good eye for it. Particularly flower arranging, for which she has no particular fondness what so every why would you event suggest that.
Three Flaws:
  • Honest as a Three Dollar Bill - Libby lies as naturally as breathing. Her personal philosophy is if it makes someone's life easier (particularly if that life is hers) then where's the harm? She tends to avoid lies that would hurt people in a meaningful way or put someone in serious danger, but she feels no guilt about lying to get advantage over someone she perceives as being in position of privilege, relative to herself.
  • Do First, Think Later - Foresight is not something Libby has an abundance of. She tends to act on impulse, and deal with consequences as they come up. Paired with an addiction to adrenaline rushes and reckless streak a mile side, this trait tends to get Libby in a lot of trouble.
  • Stupidly Romantic, Emphasis on the Stupid - When Libby makes a genuine social connection (and that is less and less often as the years go on), particularly if it's a romantic one, Libby has a tendency to turn herself inside out to please them. The charm that makes her an effective con woman comes back to bite her somewhere painful here, as she hides the parts of herself that are her in favour of presenting a version that the person she's trying to impress will like better.

History:
Libby grew up in what could generously be called an upper lower class family. She always had a roof over her head and food in her fridge, but there weren't a lot of luxuries to be found. At least, not for her. When her father came in to any kind of money he would spend it gambling at the Celadon Casino, or on some elaborate gift for her mother if he was in a good mood and the two of them weren't fighting. Both of her parents tended to think of Libby as a burden, and didn't spare much care or attention for her, so she became very independent very quickly.

By the time she was in high school, Libby had started to be very resentful of the people who had more than she did. She was a bit covetous of the little luxuries her schoolmates took for granted (cute stationary, cheap makeup, fancy drinks), and she turned to cons and shoplifting to level the paying field. Although her oldest and truest friends were from what the teachers would have called "the wrong crowd", Libby insinuated herself fairly well with her more affluent classmates, who she routinely tricked and exploited for her own benefit. She never felt bad about it, because she knew that they were using her and each other just as much, if in less tangible ways.

Shortly after graduating Libby took a short lived job at a department store where she met a young woman who she fell madly in lust love with. The girl was a bit of a romantic herself, who would spend large portions of their shifts gushing about whatever bad boy or sexy villainess featured in current fictional hyperfixation. Libby started doing some odd jobs for one of the many Team Rocket offshoot organizations in order to impress her, and it worked. They lived together for over a year before she realized Libby wasn't as much of a badass as she'd presented herself as.

That was fine though -- by then Libby had established herself a comfortable little routine within the criminal organization, and her newly-single status gave her more time to refine some of her less petty criminal skills. She proved her value to the Team, and started earning enough to support the kind of lifestyle she had longed for as a kid. All in all, she thought she had a pretty comfortable life.

Unfortunately, nothing lasts forever. Some combination of her inflated confidence and distractible nature led to her making a critical mistake during a high stakes assignment. Her team was supposed to be robbing a Hoennian businessman, but she failed to properly disable the alarm, and the authorities were on them before they even knew anything was wrong. It had been a really important job, and the consequences for failure would have been high. However, loyalty was never one of Libby's core traits, so she rolled on her companions in exchange for lenience and a shot at the newly announced NRC.

Two things:

One, I can't approve this until the Teams information is done just in case you need/want to specify a team or adjust age as needed.

Second however: Smarter than she seems to be shouldn't really be a strength as it's reflected in the stats! If she uses it to her advantage you could angle it as being savvy - aware that hiding her intelligence can be an advantage and being willing to use it. Just flat "being smart" / quick is part of the base stat numbers themselves tho.

Most of the other teams are very ideal-based / have a specific goal, and Crime (TM) is more of a side hustle. Am I able to go with "generic organized crime" / "local crime family", or does it have to be one of "the big teams"?

I could relocate her to a different region no big deal (it was only Kanto for the Rocket-affiliation back in the original thread) but I'd like to keep her at her current age. My bigger preference is just to have her criminal past to Crime not Extremism XD .

If its just that any NRA character needs to be shelved for the time being, I'm kinda tempted to shelve her though and do Old Man by the Sea for character 2 instead XDDDD . Can't stop thinking about him, haha.

Yeah I was trying to go for a different angle on that, but it did just come off as "smart". Replaced with a point about being an opportunist!

Everything is good here, except the minimum age for Rocket via the second wave of rockets is 36, assuming they joined when they were 12! The timeline is:

Last active:
Rocket - 27 years ago, min age: 39
Aqua/Magma - 27 years ago, min age: 39
Snagem/Cipher - 22 years ago, min age: 34
Rocket (Reformed) - 24 years ago, min age: 36
Galactic - 24 years ago, min age: 36
Plasma - 10 years ago, min age: 22
Flare - 10 years ago, min age: 22
Aether Foundation - 8 years ago, min age: 32 <higher entry age>

Team Star/Skull still exist but are kinda just clubs

Up to you if you want to change her affiliation to a generic thug group or adjust her age!
