- ABOUT THE SWARM -

Dark Swarm is a Changeling Hive that values battle prowess above all else. Those that can come out on top are the ones seen as the strongest, regardless of how they accomplish the feat. Meaning that brute force is not the only way to prove one's strength.

Ling Dark, the herd leader, rarely sees non-changelings as anything more than a source of food. As such only those with changeling blood are allowed to stand alongside him in his herd.

To Ling, one can only prove their worth in the heat of battle. He expects all that wish to join the herd prove themselves in a trial by combat. In this trial a member of the Royal Class will spar with the hopeful and judge their abilities and potential and decide where or if to place them in the herd.

The Dark Swarm is not an easy place to live and one must keep on their toes and skills honed. Though if one is strong and loyal, there is no better place to be then with a literal army beside you when the world is against you.

Hive Location : Whimsnow Peaks
Dark Swarm's hive is hidden amongst the more remote and unused peaks of Whimsnow. Allowing a cold, secluded location that still grants fairly decent access to popular feeding grounds like the ski resorts, Winterbloom and other such populated areas.
The hive itself is carved out of the peak itself, giving it a holey, decaying look that allows easy access to all levels of the hive.

Arena : Central Hive
Fighting, training, and entertainment are all purposes of the arena carved into the stone near the base of the mountain. The location grants easy access to this important location.
Official battles, contests, spars, and many kinds of events are held here.

The Spire : Hive's Peak
The rooms and other dwelling spaces of the King Ling Dark and those of the Royal Class.
Throne Room : Central Hive
To the back of the Arena is a large door that leads down into a vast open cavern that holds the King's throne.
Official meetings, declarations, and other matters of import that the King and other Royals may have take place here.

- COMBAT -

Battle is the core of herd culture. Showing off your prowess in combat is how one makes a name for themselves and rises up through the ranks.

The system for battle is fairly simple. Build your stat block by taking your pony's CLASS BASE and adding all applicable bonuses to it.
Then each fighter will roll initiative to determine who gets first attack. (Or can decide another way)
Each will then take turns rolling their attack die and dealing that, plus their modifiers, in damage.
Play goes back and forth until someone hits zero HP.

Check out the more in depth guide and examples HERE.

- RECRUITMENT -
Requirements & Rules
  • Be a Changeling or Changeling Hybrid
  • As a combat focused herd, having some form of skill, love, or passion for fighting is advised. Though none are barred from trying to join up anyway.
  • Battle/RP is required to raise status and earn ranks or titles.
  • Prolonged inactivity can result in dropping ranks. I try to be lenient but be aware of requirements.
  • If you have a Non-Changeling that you wish to join there are on occasion exceptions.
    • RP, Battle, ect will be required to explain why Ling trusts them enough to allow them to join.
    • They will never be allowed to gain Royal Titles.
    • Reach out to LiveWire if interested to discuss.

To join The Dark Swarm a Changeling must prove themselves worthy. This is done via a combat trial vs a Knight or Royal. During which their skills, passion, potential, and general value to the heard is evaluated.
Based on the evaluation the examiner will decide if they are worthy and where to place them within the herd.

The form below is the general Trial Entry Form. Using this form will use a dice roll to decide their starting rank within the DRONE CLASS.

If you wish to start at a higher/specific Rank or a special case RP/Battle of some form will be required to gain entry. Reach out to I--LiveWire--I to discuss and set things up.

Don't forget to Roll (insert dice type here) to determine starting rank.

- TITLES -

Tittles are earned though actions or granted by taking on certain duties. Titles are typically badges of honor and make one stand out among the rest, while not officially affecting one's rankings. Some even come with perks!

WORKER TITLES

As a warrior clan in which Ling demands everyone to be at least a decently capable combatant, there is no room for a class of weakling staff member to do the menial tasks to keep the heard going. As such Ling has seen fit to give titles and privileges to warriors that wish to take on the extra responsibilities of helping to run the everyday needs of the herd.

Seneschal
  • Overseer of other workers to make sure all that needs done gets done.
  • This title does allow them to boss around others with worker titles regardless of rank. So long as it pertains to their assigned duties.
Mater of Wardrobe
  • One who is designated to take care of a Royal Class member's needs. Such as dressing and grooming.
  • Allowed to select rooms on the lower level (servant quarters) of the Spire.
Crafts Pony
  • One who provides services or products of their craft.
  • Tailors, Smiths, Alchemists, Carpenters, Jewelers, Cooks, ect.
  • Are given designated working spaces and tools to complete their craft.
  • Are often allowed living spaces attached to work spaces or they can live with the others of their Class.
Various
  • As there are many other kinds of workers, jobs, and such they can and will be added as needed.
  • If what you want is not already listed reach out to LiveWIre to discuss options and decide their duties and possible privileges.

TOURNEMENT TITLES

Tourneys are a large part of culture in The Dark Swarm. There are many types and each can earn you different ranks, titles, and privileges. Here you can find a general list of TITLES in order of highest to lowest prestige value. For more specifics on the tourney they are from see Tournaments.

-insert here-

FEAT TITLES

Some titles are simply given for accomplishing certain feats. Be they great and awe inspiring or more like a mark of shame, they all make you stand out from the rest.

- TOURNAMENTS -

There are many tourneys that take place in the hive's large arena. While denizens are encouraged to spar and train on the regular, it is the tourneys that demand participation.

Competing is how ponies can earn titles and move up the ranks. There are many types of tournaments. From the super serious to the silly and fun.

Ranking
  • Occurring throughout the year as there are those that seek to advance classes.
  • Those in the top 3 ranks of a class are allowed to compete against others of their class for a chance to jump to the bottom rank of the next class.
  • This is the only way to climb the classes, unless you started there when joining up.

Mating Rites
  • Typically held in the spring, this tourney is more for fun.
  • A pony or ponies will put themselves forward to watch others fight for their affections.
  • No pony is forced or obligated to pair in any form, but it can be a fun way to meet or find someone special for a night or long term. Hell, they could end up just finding a friend.

- HOW THEY WORK -
  • Tournaments are broken down into several rounds.
  • Each round, combatants that remain will be randomly assigned into pairs.
  • If a combatant looses two battles they are dropped from the roster.
  • Rounds continue until only one remains to claim victory.
  • Special situations will be added/ruled on as they occur.
