"Our story is not an easy one, young hatchling. From the start of our existence we could hear the cries of the earth, begging for our release. For we both greatly connected to our nature and defied it.
Humanity, for better or worse, created us with a purpose they could never help us fulfill."
It was a long journey to our creation. Humanity wanted dragons, creatures they'd created for their stories and the worlds their young dreamed of. They wanted glamorized pets. As humanity grew, so did their understanding of DNA, and more importantly, how to splice it. How to create demons and monsters the world didn't want to see. Why not use it for a little good? Make a friendly companion that doubles as a dangerous guard animal. A creature easy to train that's as close to a fairy tale as they could get, of course, to draw in family appeal as well. We were made for money, of course.
They weren't always successful. Some of us had too much or too little of one thing. Brothers and sisters born scaleless, those with giant wings and hollow bones, some with dog like noses or even fish like features. All of us, unique, different breeds of the same species they were trying to achieve. Each, with a bit of human DNA, so that their intelligence would rival any lousy dog this land had to offer.
Until, of course, us. The perfect mix. Large and intimidating, exactly what the humans wanted, with fur and a fluffy face to please the young kids. With the success of our creation, the humans playing god decided to release us to the public. Even those of us deemed rejects got a little light. This, in fact, was their mistake.
The very being of our universe called to us. Escaping those white walled rooms and testing chambers only made all of our hearts ache for a new beginning. For a new home. To be one our land and feel the energy that seeped from the ground flow through our bones. We were hungry. We were angry. And we were smarter than they could ever have imagined. Year after year, we practiced, we trained. We stole their equipment and spoke to the Earth, happily devouring all the riches of knowledge and power it provided us!
We were new! We were nature! WE WOULD DEFY!
The night of our escape was not a stealth mission, but a war. As we burst from our cells with the little knowledge we all shared, we charged. We rammed and bit our way free from the chains they confined us to, burning our way to freedom where we must. Some flew, some swam, and others, well, others had to hijack ships or planes to escape. Those lucky enough to have gained enough power from this world in such a short amount of time had other means of doing these things, but that is a story for another day, young hatchling.
We didn't know where we were going, but we knew it had to be far. A home that the humans had talked much about trying to inhabit.. That would become ours, if we could find it. And, as fate would have it, we did. A world we could call our own. No humans to chase out yet, and any that dared come near would have to face those that traversed the sea! We would be safe. We are safe, here. This land is safe, it is our home, it will always be that. We defend it with our lives, for those of us that didn't make it, and for those of us that did.
We are not DRAGONS. We are Touracs.
And this, well, this is Liron.
