Tippy the Drilbur - Sasaki has known Tippy since he was a toddler, he named her when he was four.
She is shiny, one of his father's Excadrill or Drilburr's offspring. Tatsuya usually presents the offspring to his grad students to take but assigned Tippy to his son after he nearly had a heart attack the second time he caught them with wild bug pokemon.
(Tatsuya doesn't know how she keeps finding them, Iris just kept finding bugs. His son best friends are a strange bug girl and one of the children from the local hippie commune.)
So he assigned his son a protector to keep him and his friends out of trouble. Tippy is a very good girl.
