Player Rules: ​

• Please ask before using the Coven as inspiration.​

I put a lot of love and work into this herd. Please consider that before directly mimicking aspects of this thread, Discord, and other Coven features.​

• You can join via the Discord or through DM. You must get approval to join.​

While it is preferred one uses the Coven Discord to join or add members to the herd, those who do not wish to join the Discord can DM me directly at Nym. Please utilize either joining features to insert new ponies or add breeding ponies into the herd (the latter is for my personal logging).​

• Requests to enact plots that heavily affect and alter Coven must be approved.​

Wars, direct antagonizing other herds, plagues -- anything that affects the herd as a whole needs to be approved. I have the right to deny any requests.​

• The Coven of Night has specific requirements rules upon joining (The Coven Code of Ethics), and will banish if those are broken.​

You can enact any personal plot you wish, and even ask how to make it work within the herd. But please remember that the herd has specific rules for its members and breaking them in a way the leader or members can see will result in IC consequences.​

The Coven Code of Ethics: ​

​

• All members within the coven are to be respected. ​

Every pony who serves the coven ethics is a valued member of the herd, regardless if a vampire or not.​

​

• The safety of the coven and its members is always a top priority.​

Anyone who threatens the safety of the coven will be exiled, and those who actually hurt someone will be relinquished into the hooves of the pony government. ​

​

• Do not consume the blood of others without consent.​

The coven respects the law of the world and the bodily autonomy of others. The hospital will provide ethically sourced blood bags readily with medically safe and sterilized methods. Attempts to manipulate, harass, threaten, or trick a pony into donating blood are considered a lack of consent. Blood should only be provided by enthusiastic consent each time, even between partnered ponies. Taking the blood of a pony without consent is also a felony, and will result in the coven contacting the pony government.​

• Converting a pony unwillingly into a vampire will result in the immediate surrender of that member to the pony government.​

Converting an unwilling pony into a vampire is not only against the coven ways but also a felony. The Coven of Night will show no mercy towards those who do so.​

About the Coven

The Coven: ​

​

The Coven of Night (familiarly called The Coven for short) is a large gathering of vampire and vampire-supporting ponies who vow to protect, educate, discipline, and house those of vampiric descent as long as a specific code of ethics is upheld and demonstrated. Vampires within The Coven hold themselves to a high standard and expect their herdkin to do the same, especially regarding the ethic code of their clan.​

​

Full-fledged coven members (those not currently students within the academy) typically reside within Nightfell and live as a community, regardless of status or position. It is uncommon for members within the herd to live outside the town, but not forbidden. Housing is monetarily free, with the expectation those within the herd will support and assist one another to further the community. The coven is fairly neutral towards other herds and keeps to themselves decisively, resulting in a more reclusive image for the coven. They do not associate with other vampiric herds to avoid potential clashes on differing vampiric morals.​

Branches of the coven keep an eye on civilization outside their walls dutifully and are often quick to respond to rumors or reports of aggressive vampire attacks or vampire hunters in efforts to make the world a better place for their kind. Typically, this means capturing and depositing said ponies into the hands of the pony government, but occasionally a pony just... disappears. Morgan Blackwell, their leader and headmistress, brushes off any allegations of behind-the-shadows activities, but there are certainly whispers. The coven does enough good in the world for accusations to fade back into obscurity, however.​

The Academy: ​

​

The Eclipse Academy is kept separate from the coven's main grounds as its own entity, primarily providing a quiet environment for young or newly changed vampires to learn about their kind, how to defend themselves, the coven ethics, and further train in additional skills of their choosing. The school also welcomes reformed vampires who wish to change their ways and embrace The Coven of Night's ways, although those select few are kept in their own wing from the other students until they've been deemed safe. ​

Classes are held either individually or within smaller groups, depending on a student's needs. Graduation is a case-by-case occurrence that follows after a student has proven they're ready to become a full-fledged member of the coven, although students may request to delay graduation if they wish. ​

​

Coven members who desire to further their education can take specialty classes here as well, which are held in a different wing than standard courses. Donors are also required to take both a health and defense class before they can fully become coven members. ​

​

The academy is generous in allowing graduates to decide not to join the coven upon graduation, as they hope their education will help the vampire from harming others. ​

Coven Symbol

The coven symbol is to the point in design, taking the shape of a sharply tipped bat with curled wings. Generally, the symbol is dark in color, but it isn't a hard rule. The symbol can be seen scattered throughout the coven's territories in the form of windows, motifs, crests, flags, and similar. Every student and member of the coven is given their own coven badge, which often is displayed proudly in some form, with the most common usage as necklaces or cape accessories. A few of the most devout coven members might even tattoo the mark upon themselves!​

Backstory

The story is short but to the point; Morgan Blackwell was originally a standard pony married to a stallion she had known since she was a foal. Due to unfortunate circumstances out of her control, she was bitten and turned by another vampire and discovered her partner was a vampire hunter in training. She fled her home after the realization her love story was basically the beginning of a cliche tv series and found refuge in a run-down vampiric town called Nightfell, where the locals quickly took a shine to her and her ideals for a better future for their kind. After years of renovating the old church grounds and making a name for herself, she eventually rose to lead Nightfell under their more than willing request. ​

​

It's not a well-kept secret how she became the leader and headmistress, either, as Morgan has retold this story readily. To this day she still is unsure exactly how she won the heart of Nightfell, but she's sworn to protect the herd she's created and those who seek the Coven of the Night's aide and guidance.​

Nightfell: ​

​

Tucked into an obscure corner of Fall's Harvest, finding the Coven of Night is not an easy feat for the uninvited. While it is fairly massive for a place so private, the dense and eternally foggy forest surrounding the perimeter is enough of a deterrent for the standard pony. Should one decide to brave the woods, they will, eventually, stumble upon the shadowed town of Nightfell, where colossal trees droop and shield their nocturnal residents from the overbearing sun. While built entirely for their nightly kin in mind, the old and victorian-esque town glows faintly by lantern and candlelight, offering solace for those not gifted with night vision. The town functions entirely fine on its own,-- regardless of how removed from outside society it may be --stocked with a well-cared-for library, a scattering of bars, local shops and stalls, their own bank, a hospital, and a smattering of other standard sights and expectancies for a town. ​

​

At the heart of Nightfell is the Crescent Plaza, where events are held near-weekly for the growing community. Here is where one will spot the cluster of overgrown stone paths leading to various points of interest within the town. While the town is kept clean from litter and debris, nature finds its home alongside the structures of Nightfell, covering the town in local greenery. ​

​

Visitors are welcomed hesitantly by town members, with watchful eyes always present. Residency is not offered for those not a part of the coven, but ponies may visit family or explore the open parts of Nightfell if they remain respectful and quiet, especially during the daytime, when most ponies are either asleep or tucked within their homes. While the town does not experience direct sunlight thanks to the canopy above, the nocturnal residents far prefer a muted lifestyle during the day. The night is when life bursts forth within Nightfell, but do not make the mistake of assuming you're not being watched even when the sun is high. ​

Coven members are provided housing for free, welcoming their new brethren with fully furnished homes and access to the town's healthcare system and food without cost. Locals typically exchange handmade goods and offer services in exchange for what they need. Visitors will still need to pay for what they seek, but the local inn does offer a bed in exchange for help cleaning the town or preparing meals.​

The Coven Grounds: ​

​

While technically the entire town is part of the coven, there is a massive structure of buildings to the north of Nightfell, where herd-specific events and operations are handled. Here is where their leader, Morgan Blackwell, houses her office, which she spends far more time at than her actual house. These large buildings were once a church for a now-deceased religion and has since been repurposed as a mixture of a town and herd hall. There are rumors there's a secret passage leading into undocumented catacombs, but no evidence has surfaced so far. ​

The Eclipse Academy: ​

​

Protected behind a massive black iron fence that curves around the foreboding victorian school building and a rotating group of guards, the Eclipse Academy houses the students of Nightfell seeking to begin or further their education. While it was originally built to teach vampires how to defend themselves and honor the Nightfell way of living, it has since expanded to offer all sorts of classes run entirely by Nightfell locals. Students partaking in the basic coven education program are required to live within the labyrinthian grounds of Eclipse Academy until they've graduated (or decided to quit schooling). ​

Classes for further education outside of the initial coven education program are held in different wings than the students attending the essential coven program. ​

Safehouses: ​

The Coven of Night has begun putting up small safehouses throughout Everchange, both for coven members traveling and also as a safe haven for vampires in need or ponies harmed by vampires. Ponies who have heard of the Coven of Night can also request a guide to Nightfell from these locations.​

Ranks

Every coven member is assigned at least one rank upon joining, helping to label each member their place within the herd. Ponies can move between ranks if they feel they wish to change focus by submitting a form to the Coven Grounds, with most cases quickly approved within the month. Ponies are not forcibly demoted or re-assigned.​

​

Non-vampires can take any rank within the herd, as well. The herd does not discriminate. ​

The title speaks for itself. The leader of the Coven of Night also is the headmaster of the Eclipse Academy and is entirely responsible for the overarching safety of the herd. Their word is law within Nightfell.​

Ponies trained in combat who both protect the town and are sent out to address reports of violent vampires or vampire hunters. They are not permitted to take life and are directed to place captured ponies into the hooves of the pony government. These ponies also act as patrols to protect the town.​

Those who have trained in some form of medical care. This can be as a doctor, a nurse, a veterinarian -- anything that involves the medical care of living beings, excluding plants. ​

This position is perfect for the nomadic sort who still wishes to have a spot within the coven. Recruiters seek out ponies who would find solace within the Coven of Night and either brings them to Nightfell or provides directions. Recruiters are also tasked with opening communication avenues with valuable traders.​

Anyone who runs a shop or service for the town and coven. They will need to send a form to the Coven Grounds requesting a permit for their specialty, but the coven has always been fairly agreeable. ​

Some ponies just want to live within Nightfell and be a member of the coven, and that's okay! Civilians are still expected to do their part in keeping both the town and coven clean and provide some sort of work to earn their keep. ​

Donors are exclusively non-vampiric ponies who wish to donate their blood safely for the coven to consume. All donations are monitored carefully at the local hospital and handled medically to avoid accidental conversions or harm, without teeth ever involved. Donors are valued greatly, as their generosity keeps the herd going! Donors are required to also partake in classes to learn defense, coven ethics, and basic health.​

​

Any vampire who bites a donor unwillingly is immediately cast out of the coven without a second chance. While donations are 99.9% done medically, there is an understanding some donors might be partnered with a vampire and offer their blood "traditionally". ​

While any pony can attend the Eclipse Academy, those who are attending to learn the coven ways and further understand their vampiric nature (or learn what being a donor entails) by taking the required coven education program are labeled fledgling students. They live within Eclipse Academy and are generally kept away from the rest of the coven until graduation, both to protect new vampire students struggling to control themselves and also to offer a quiet respite while learning.​

The coven still understands complete isolation is actually determinantal, however, and schedules outings for their fledgling students that will increase in availability as the student progresses through their education.​

To join or leave is fairly simple! Fill out the form below (for whichever situation fits your needs) and post it within this thread. Nym will respond when she has time. Those leaving the herd/coven do not need to wait for approval, as they're automatically registered as having left.​

The Discord is useful for updates, graphic drop offs, herd chatter, special Discord-only events, RP, and even asking questions/adjusting your ponies ranks (although you can DM Nym for the last two if needed). ​

​

All new joining ponies will have gone through the required schooling before becoming an official member. You do not need to post your pony as a Fledgling Student and can skip to their official rank with the understanding they did go through school. You also can choose to keep them as a Fledgling Student for a bit, too! This includes born-into-the-coven ponies; everyone goes through the same education process.​
