[PRP] Scales and Fists
Swamp Siren — 2/1/24, 9:25 PM
Private rp for Alder Shulbari and probably Raja
Having been chased from her own homeland Alder ended up in the least likely place, HallowOak. And now some hothead wanted to fight? Barbaric. She had scoffed only to be greeted by another. One calling himself Raja. Yes her clothes were tattered. "I... don't understand. " she looked a little dazed at Raja (edited)
robbedragon — 2/1/24, 9:41 PM
"Honey, you have the perfect curves and you should accentuate them." Raja called over his shoulders. "I have the cutest outfit that will work perfectly for your figure. Come on." he instructed and continued walking towards the village and his home. Shulbari was still on the ground whimpering, moaning and groaning when two large labor guild workers picked him up and carried him to the care ward for treatment. Nobody moved to stop Alder because, honestly, Shulbari has been asking for an ass beating for a while.
Swamp Siren — 2/1/24, 9:49 PM
With a sigh she pulled the tattered cloak closer to her frame and followed with her head down. The brute was asking for it. He started it. She just defended herself. Her body aches. Everything was a blur. She remembered running, the sting of branches slapping her face as she tried to get to safety. The fear that welled up in her as she found on herself on the very edge of a cliff. Then falling. Cold water. Then waking up on a strange land and bright sun. "Where is this?" (edited)
robbedragon — 2/1/24, 10:04 PM
"This is the village of HollowOak." Raja explained as he walked. "Obviously, you're far from wherever you called home but, I'll explain things as best as I can. I just can't let you wander around in rags. You'll come to my place and I'll get you into something better. While we do that, I'll answer your questions and you can answer mine." he rambled, excited at the prospects of getting to dress her up.
Swamp Siren — 2/1/24, 10:09 PM
"I'm.... Alder." She mumbled as she followed. She squinted trying to djust to the light. She was far more used to the darkness. "HollowOak..... the Homia...."
robbedragon — 2/1/24, 10:13 PM
Raja turned to look at her as he walked backwards. "Yes, we're the homia and, based off pictures I've seen, I take it you're a dalvis?" he questioned. "The books made you seem more like ugly beasts with massive teeth and claws but, girl, you are beautiful. The light shining off those beautiful black scales...." he paused to look her over. "Sweetheart, I may need you to model all my outfits for me from now on cause you are working what you were given."

Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 7:58 AM
Pushing back her hood Alder let her long hair tumble from where she had it basically stuffed in there. The light played off her white hair streaked with dark blueish grey. "You're assuming I'll be allowed to stay."
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 10:11 AM
"The elders have to make that decision. Just be on your best behavior and they'll let you. They didn't kick the Alvia out despite a lot of protests." Raja assured her and then he turned back around just as they neared his house. He opened the door and swung it open. "TADA~" he announced proudly. Inside was fabric and outfits galore stacked, folded hung and pretty much taking up every free space he had. It was clear that Raja spent more time working on clothes than anything else and may have been a bit of a recluse.
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 10:19 AM
Stepping inside she eyed the stacks. "You..... you made all of this?"
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 10:24 AM
Raja blushed a bit but was smiling, "Yeah, I have a lot of free time on my hands. I supply the village with clothes but, they tend to like things rough and easy to toss away if they get torn or too dirty so, a lot of my more elegant outfits just kinda sit around. Every once in a while a man or woman will ask for something for a date and I get to show off my work but, most of the time, it's like the equivalent of throwing a burlap sack on someone in my eyes but, I'd hate for a fisherman to get fish guts all over my good stuff." he explained with a bit of a shrug.
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 10:43 AM
Walking over to a stack she touched the fabric. "You have a good eye....." Smiling she looked back, "And I will try to behave. But I will defend myself. That Shull-bar-ee you spoke of seems to be a dumb brute. " she purred the name in a strange accent.
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 11:05 AM
The way she said Shulbari 's name made Raja giggle. "He's not usually this bad. I actually used to look up to him. Even had a crush on him if I'm being honest. He's just a very protective guy and the village has been through a lot the last year or so. Problem is, it's been natural disasters and it's impossible to protect the village from something you can't punch like a hurricane, earthquakes, droughts, floods and blizzards so Shulbari is lashing out at strangers and placing blame on someone he can punch. Show him you don't mean to harm the village and he'll warm up to you eventually and, if he gets too rowdy, kick him again." he explained, giving another playful giggle. "Easiest way to earn his trust is to go out of your way to help a villager in need. Even if it's one of the Alvia. He won't admit it but Shulbari's protective nature extends to anyone the elders allow in, even if his words say otherwise. He's had the opportunity to attack the Alvia we accepted but he hasn't done more than talk and rile up a bunch of brutes." As he spoke, he pulled a piece of string with lines marked on it out and started measuring Alder.
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 11:09 AM
"Then I will do as you say." She sighed, "As long as I am here any way. Which may be a while. I'm nit sure how to get back home.... or if I even should."
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 11:19 AM
Raja pushed her arm up and measured her across the shoulders. "Hmmm... I'll need to make some adjustments to comfortably accommodate that tail of yours but I have a good starting outfit for you to wear until I make something a little more protective. At the very least, it will give you something to wear when you meet with the elders. With your fighting ability, you could help the hunters but you'd be dealing with Shulbari on a daily basis."
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 11:25 AM
She grinned showing slightly pointed canine teeth, "It might be a good challenge. And will prove I mean no harm by by working willingly with one who attacked me." She allowed Raja to measure her, "I'm pretty good at tracking and scouting. "
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 1:21 PM
"Good!" Raja exclaimed. He knew very little about hunting but, he could fake it a bit. He'd dated one of the hunter guild guys in secret for a while so he picked up a bit of the lingo. He rushed over and found a two piece outfit. "This is a little bit more revealing but I think it will be easier to wear with your scales and tail." he explained. "You're going to have to strip off those rags while I prepare a tub of hot water for you to bathe in."
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 1:36 PM
Pulling off the cloak she tossed it to the floor. "Is there any where in particular I can change."
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 3:13 PM
"Oh, if you need privacy, there's a wooden privacy screen over there but don't worry. I've seen plenty of naked women and they don't interest me. They all look the same to me." Raja assured her. "I mean, you're definitely different but it wouldn't interest me in the slightest."
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 4:22 PM
Not knowing is she should feel reassured or insulted, Alder removed her clothes but still used them to cover up. A hot bath sounded wonderful as she felt aches in places she didn't think possible
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 5:11 PM
Raja set to work filling a wooden tub with hot water. Most of the villagers used a bucket and rag to clean themselves but Raja loved a good soak and had commissioned the builders to craft him a large tub to do so with. "Here you go!" he announced. "Take a soak and relax for a bit. I'm sure the journey here has to be pretty rough. There's soap and a cloth to scrub with and your outfit will be right here." he added.
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 5:29 PM
Walking over she drooped the clothes and slid in. A sigh left her as the water caressed her sore. "Thank you Rah Jah. " her purring accent rolled, "I've needed this. It has been a hard trek here."
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 5:55 PM
Raja giggled, "Your accent is so adorable." He gathered up her dirty and tattered rags and moved them over to a pile. He'd clean them up and try to salvage the fabric later but, for now, they were trash in his eyes.
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 7:15 PM
Washing her self clean she could see dust and dirt come away from her scales, leaving them a darker black with a brighter shine, "Is it? This is normal for me, everyone talks this way at Starglow."
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 8:37 PM
"There will be a lot of things different between here and your home." Raja figured, leaning back on a small desk. "I'll help where I can but, to be honest, the culture shock might be a bit much. If you need anything, ask me and I'll do my best." he assured her.
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 8:44 PM
Leaning back she slumped, "If I am allowed to stay here by the elser, I will need a home."
robbedragon — 2/2/24, 11:17 PM
"You're welcome to stay here..." Raja suggested. "At least until you get a place of your own, anyways."
Swamp Siren — 2/2/24, 11:44 PM
"I wouldn't want to impose on you Rah Jah." Getting out of the tub she wrapped a towel around herself
robbedragon — 2/3/24, 1:35 PM
"It's not really much of an imposition, honestly." Raja promised her and then he held up the outfit for her. "I actually wouldn't mind the company to be honest. I'm a bit of an oddball around this village."
Swamp Siren — 2/3/24, 5:08 PM
"I see noh'ting wrong with you." Taking the clothes she dressed, admiring the quality and design. "You really do have a goid eye for fashion." Letting down her hair Alder ran her fingers through it.
robbedragon — 2/3/24, 7:42 PM
"Most of the men in this town are all about being big, burly macho men. Guys like me..." Raja paused and shook his head. "Let's just say weaker guys like me aren't useful for much. Although, there's plenty of those big burly guys with skeletons in their closet, if you catch my drift."
Swamp Siren — 2/3/24, 8:42 PM
"You don't have to be big and burly to be useful." she motioned to herself, "I was able knock out that Shull-bar-ee. Size does not matter. Skill. That matters"
robbedragon — 2/3/24, 11:40 PM
"Yeah, that's not what I mean..." Raja said with a chuckle. "The thing is, I like men. I'm not ashamed of that but, it's not exactly a common trait around here. Most of the men look down on me and a few others like me because of it. At least, they look down on us in public but, I've had more than a few quick flings in dark alleys and beds their wives or girlfriends weren't warming at the time. People don't like different and, even if they themselves are, they tend to hide it for fear of that same judgment. Over time, you get used to it and you just grow thicker skin." he explained.
Swamp Siren — 2/4/24, 11:08 AM
"That is a shame. They are missing out. I can only imagine the kindness you would give a lover. Considering how you have treated me."
robbedragon — 2/4/24, 11:40 AM
"Yeah, well, it's partially my fault..." Raja admitted. "My tunnel vision kinda blinded me and put Shulbari up on a pedestal but, after the way he's been acting, I'm starting to see him for the jerk he is. Too bullheaded to listen to reason and, to make matters worse, I'm not even sure he even swings my way. He used to be nice to me when others weren't. Even came to my defence a few years back and beat up these six guys that cornered me and were bullying me. Nobody has ever stood up for me before so I thought it was because he liked me but, now I'm just thinking it's because I was part of his village and therefore, under his protection."
Swamp Siren — 2/4/24, 12:13 PM
"I do not believe it is you Rah Jah. And you may think he is great this Shul- Bar- Ee, but he may not be fir you." Patting his arm gently, "Perhaps we can help each other. This way I do not feel I am a burden. But rather try to earn my own keep."
robbedragon — 2/4/24, 12:49 PM
"Oh, don't worry. Everyone in the village carries their own weight." Raja assured her with a soft smile. "The elders will put you to work."
Swamp Siren — 2/4/24, 6:23 PM
"I don't mind working." Alder absently ran a hand over some cloth. "I do hope I didn't hurt Shul-Bar-Ee....."
robbedragon — 2/4/24, 6:25 PM
Raja chuckled, "I wouldn't worry too much about Shulbari. He's a lot tougher than he looks and he'll probably be up trying to kick your ass before tomorrow." He stopped and shook his head, "Don't hold his attitude against him. I can promise you that, if they elders say you can stay, he will treat you differently. Maybe not the most friendly but he won't attack you again."
Swamp Siren — 2/4/24, 6:37 PM
Yawning she nodded, "Thank you Rah Jah. For being so kind to me."
robbedragon — 2/7/24, 3:44 PM
"Don't mention it." Raja chuckled. "We weirdos have to look out for one another. Besides, if you really are a big scary Dalvis who is going to cover the world in darkness, I'd rather stay on your good side." he joked.
Swamp Siren — 2/11/24, 12:06 AM
"I'm honestly not that bad......"
robbedragon — 2/11/24, 12:08 AM
"Oh, please, girl..." Raja chuckled. "If I put stock in every myth, legend, rumor and paranoid murmur these small-headed villagers spread, I'd be in a world of trouble."
Swamp Siren — 2/11/24, 12:18 AM
Chucking Alder started to yawn. "Sorry....."
robbedragon — 2/11/24, 12:20 AM
"Get some sleep, Alder." Raja offered, patting the bed. "I'm sure you've been through quite the ordeal. In the morning, I'll take you on a quick tour of the village and then we'll go see the elders."
Swamp Siren — 2/12/24, 9:04 AM
She slowly nodded then made herself as comfortable as she could. It was weird sleeping in someone else's bed. Curl8ng her tail over herself she nestled down snd drifted off
robbedragon — 2/12/24, 11:15 AM
Raja made his way over to a cushion on the floor by the door, gathered up a blanket and quickly went to sleep.
Swamp Siren — 2/12/24, 2:59 PM
As morning came Alder woke to blinding lights. Blinking bleary-eyed she looked to the window. "Its..... so bright."
robbedragon — 2/12/24, 3:26 PM
The sound started Raja and he jerked awake, not used to having guests stay the whole night. "Hmmm?" he looked around anxiously before remembering the events of the prior night. "Oh... Yeah.... It's called sunlight. Are you not used to seeing the sun?"
Swamp Siren — 2/12/24, 8:02 PM
Shading her eyes with the back of her hand, "No. The tree canopy is so dense the light never reaches the floor."
robbedragon — 2/12/24, 8:08 PM
"Oh!" Raja realized she might be too sensitive to the light and he quickly drew the curtains. "Sorry..." he murmured. "You'll need time to adjust to that, then."
Swamp Siren — 2/12/24, 8:10 PM
She blinked a few times, little spots floating infront of her eyes, "Is it always that bright?"
robbedragon — 2/12/24, 8:16 PM
"Sometimes it's better because the clouds cover the sky but, those are also the days it's gonna rain so it's a double-edged blade..." Raja explained. "Until you're used to it, I might have something that may help." he informed her and he starte digging around. After a few minutes, he pulled out a piece of wood with a frame at the top and fabric draped across the frame. "I created this as a sort of portable shade device but, it's so clunky and awkward that I didn't think anyone would ever get use out of it."
Swamp Siren — 2/12/24, 8:40 PM
Straightening her clothes as she got up she looked the item over. "I don't mind the light. It feels nice. My eyes just aren't used to it" (edited)
robbedragon — 2/12/24, 11:35 PM
"I figured this would help shield your eyes while you ease into it." he offered. "Once you're used to it, you won't need it anymore."
Swamp Siren — 2/16/24, 2:13 PM
"Thank you... I don't know how I will ever repay your kindness. " a heartfelt smile spread across Alder's face
robbedragon — 2/16/24, 2:50 PM
Raja chuckled, "Helping the village is more than enough."
Swamp Siren — 2/16/24, 3:23 PM
Taking the portable shade, Alder stepped outside. This was going to take some getting used to. Everything was so bright and vibrant
robbedragon — 2/16/24, 4:40 PM
Raja followed after her and gave a nice stretch. It didn't take him very long to notice the stares coming from the other villagers but, to his relief, they weren't on him for once. In fact, people seemed to be staring at Alder and not being very subtle about their whispering. Raja actually felt bad about the way people stared at her and shook his head in disbelief. He knew all too well what it was like to be ostracized by the village.
Swamp Siren — 2/16/24, 5:40 PM
Not wanting to give the people any satisfaction of seeing they were getting under her skin, Alder walked with her head held high. She projected confidence. The sun felt amazing and glinted off her scales and hair.
robbedragon — 2/17/24, 10:11 AM
Seeing her walk with pride actually made Raja smile a bit. "The elders are usually in the main hall planning. More than likely, they're already gathered to discuss their options when it comes to you." he offered, hoping to prepare her. "We should probably go for breakfast at the mess hall first, though. That way you aren't facing them on an empty stomach."
Swamp Siren — 2/18/24, 7:08 PM
The mention of food made her stomach growl. How long had it been since she had eaten. "I will follow your lead."
robbedragon — 2/18/24, 10:29 PM
Raja giggled and led her to the mess hall. "If all things go well with the elders, we'll go check on Shulbari after." he offered. "Might help if you apologize to him to soothe his pride and show the village you mean well."
Swamp Siren — 2/18/24, 11:29 PM
"If you think it wolill help" she sighed.
robbedragon — 2/18/24, 11:35 PM
Once they reached the mess hall, Raja held the door open for her. "I'll do everything in my power to help you build a good reputation around here." he offered.
Swamp Siren — 2/23/24, 8:25 PM
Stopping at the door she turned to Raja, "Thank you. Really. Thank you. You have helped me more than my own people have." Setting the parasol down near the door after entering she let her eyes adjust to the difference in light.
robbedragon — 2/23/24, 8:27 PM
"I don't know what your people were like but, around here, we try to help each other out. It's needed to survive." Raja offered and he pulled out a chair for her to sit. "We may not always agree and there are plenty of feuds but, when disaster strikes, we always help each other. Nobody starves in our village."
Swamp Siren — 2/23/24, 8:35 PM
Taking the seat she carefully settled in with her clothes and tail, "I had first thought I would stay till I was strong enough to leave..... now..... I don't think I want to...."
robbedragon — 2/23/24, 9:24 PM
The topic slightly soured Raja's mood and he cleared his throat. "Well, first we have to convince the elders to let you stay. There's a lot stacked against you but, I'm going to try and argue on your behalf. If you have someone from the village on your side, they may be more willing to listen to reason and not supserstition or ancient tales that nobody seems to know the source of." he urged.
Swamp Siren — 2/23/24, 9:27 PM
Letting out a sigh she nodded, "Aye. Very true. I am getting ahead of myself. I will follow your word Rah Jah."
robbedragon — 2/23/24, 9:39 PM
"Relax for now. I have a way with words. I'll get us some food and be right back." Raja offered as he headed to the counter.
Swamp Siren — 2/23/24, 10:00 PM
Sighing heavily she folded her hands infront of her face and leaned her head onto them. Would they accept her? Raja was kind... and understanding..... but the whole village may not be like him. There was Shulbari, who attacked her. What if there were more people like him....
robbedragon — 2/23/24, 10:48 PM
After a few minutes, Raja came back with two plates. He looked them both over and then gave Alder the one with the slightly bigger portion of eggs and sausage thinking she could probably use it after everything she'd been through.
Swamp Siren — 2/23/24, 11:00 PM
Startled out of her thoughts she looked down at the plate then accepted it. "Thank you."
robbedragon — 2/23/24, 11:06 PM
"Eat up and then we'll head to the elder's...." Raja suggested as he sat down and dug into his breakfast.
Swamp Siren — 2/23/24, 11:24 PM
Following his lead she ate, her eyes roaming over the room from time to time, taking in every detail
robbedragon — 2/23/24, 11:41 PM
Raja had gotten used to rushing through eating in the mess hall or taking his food back to his place to eat in peace so, he was very uncomfortable in the crowd. He could feel all the eyes on him, hear their whispers and mutters about the freak but he couldn't tell if it was aimed at him or Alder which only made things worse. Deep inside, his heart was pounding but, he did his best to hide it and put on a mask to make sure Alder didn't feel anxious eating in the mess hall with him. He cleared his throat and tried to think up something to make conversation, "So, do they have trades where you're from? Like hunters, fisherman, clothiers and things like that?"
Swamp Siren — 2/25/24, 9:49 PM
"We do actually. Though we may seem outwardly different, we live basic lives just like you do here." As she ate she let her senses wander, listening to the whispered. Of course people would talk. She stood out with her dark skin a d tail.
robbedragon — 2/25/24, 9:52 PM
"Interesting...." Raja stated, trying to drown his thoughts in the conversation. "I've always been curious about how other people live. Even the other Homia villages seem so different to us. When they refugees came, they seemed confused. One of the villages main source of trade was mining but we're mostly fishermen here." he explained.
Swamp Siren — 2/25/24, 9:56 PM
"That is truly interesting. We did crafts and hunted." huffing a laugh, "Even with out sunlight we grew plants."
robbedragon — 2/25/24, 10:03 PM
"How can you grow plants without sun?" Raja wondered. "I mean, I'm no gardener cause getting dirt under my nails would probably kill me but, I'm pretty sure sunlight and water are the two most important things a plant needs." he joked.
Swamp Siren — 2/25/24, 10:14 PM
"There are some that have adapted to grow with out it." She shrugged as she set down her fork, "life finds a way to thrive. Goes with anything really. You either adapt or..... you no don't continue a lineage. "
robbedragon — 2/25/24, 10:21 PM
Raja scoffed, "Maybe that's what I'm doing wrong."
Swamp Siren — 2/25/24, 10:27 PM
"You are not doing anything wrong." Reaching of the table she grasped his hand " You have shown a stranger kindness. And for that I thank you. You have bloomed like the night glow flowers. You have gone past the old way and thriving, shining. Those set in the old ways, THEY are the ones that are not adapting."
robbedragon — 2/25/24, 10:36 PM
"Not what I meant..." Raja shrugged. "I'm gay, one of the few openly gay men in this village. I've had flings but, these men are too afraid to admit who they are for fear of being judged like they judge me so I can't have a real relationship."
Swamp Siren — 2/25/24, 10:45 PM
"Still say they are the ones that are wrong. You are trying g to thrive in the harsh climate." (edited)
robbedragon — 2/25/24, 10:48 PM
"Not like it's hurting them but, people can be idiots sometimes." Raja pointed out. "Besides, I've done a lot of good for this village. I may not be able to build huts or catch fish but, I make people happy and speak out against jerks. That's enough for me."
Swamp Siren — 3/1/24, 8:08 PM
"You took me in without hesitation." pushing her plate away she smiled, "To me you are a hero." Looking around at the others, "Shall we leave. So these fools can talk openly about us after we are gone."
robbedragon — 3/1/24, 8:12 PM
"Probably for the best." Raja agreed as he climbed to his feet. "Elders first or medical hut?"
Swamp Siren — 3/1/24, 8:22 PM
"Let's go to the elders first. It may help soother Shul Bar Ee if he knows I have been permitted to stay."
robbedragon — 3/1/24, 8:30 PM
Raja giggled at her accent. "To the elders it is!" he exclaimed and offered his arm to her.
Swamp Siren — 3/1/24, 8:44 PM
Taking it she left the table. Looking back over her shoulder she saw several gentlemen staring. With a wink she continued on.
robbedragon — 3/2/24, 10:22 PM
Raja led her out and towards the elder's hut. "Listen, I know you're nervous but, the elder is pretty reasonable. As long as you explain everything that happened just like you told me, you'll be fine." he assured her.
Swamp Siren — 3/2/24, 10:28 PM
Letting out a soft breath she steeled her nerves and picked up the shade Raja had gave her. I hope you're right.
robbedragon — 3/2/24, 11:22 PM
Raja made small talk on the way there and, once they arrived, they pleaded Alder's case. The elders seemed to need time to consider the choices and advised Alder to apologize to Shulbari and convince him to accept it as it would go a long way towards helping her stay in the village.
Swamp Siren — 3/2/24, 11:26 PM
With a heavy sigh Alder made her way to the healers area. She had hoped the elders would have agreed she could stay before seeing the one who tried to attack her.
robbedragon — 3/3/24, 9:40 PM
"Look at the bright side..." Raja offered. "At least they didn't just outright say no which means they're giving you a chance."
Swamp Siren — 3/4/24, 9:22 PM
"This is very true." Gently twirling the umbrella. "Though I am sure Shul Bar Ee will not be happy to see me."
robbedragon — 3/4/24, 10:45 PM
"Whatever you do, don't let him know that his apology may determine whether you get to stay or not." Raja suggested. "He might refuse it just to keep you out. He's been acting really weird about outsiders and magic lately..."
Swamp Siren — 3/4/24, 10:53 PM
"Weird? You mean he wasn't always like this?"
robbedragon — 3/4/24, 11:08 PM
"Not really. A lot has happened in the village lately..." Raja explained. "We found the water magic and Osha showed up. Shortly after, we had disaster after disaster hit us and three of our villagers were killed by outsiders." he continued. The medical hut was coming into view and he stopped short. "After all of that happened, he started blaming the magic, the Alvia and the outsiders for everything. In truth, he probably blames himself more but he can't change the past."
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 12:57 PM
"That.... seems so sad..... and lonely." Stopping out side the medical hut she eyed the doors, then with a sigh and pushing her shoulders back, she went in.
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 1:05 PM
Shulbari sat on the edge of a cot with a bandage over his stomach and chest. As soon as he saw Alder, he snarled. "Cheap shot wasn't good enough? Come to try and slit my throat while I'm mending?" he snapped at her. Raja quickly stepped between them. "No, she came to apologize." he stated. "Although, you were the moron that attacked first and she had every right to defend herself." he added in a mutter under his breath.
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 1:14 PM
Holding her hand infront of her she gave a bow, "I would not dishonor a man of your prowess in such a way. I would be disrespectful and cowardly." standing back to her full height her violet eyes ran over him, "I have come to express my apologies. I reacted in self defense. I will make no other excuses than that. " Nodding her head to him, "I am sorry."
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 1:16 PM
Shulbari sighed and climbed to his feet. "I guess I can't really blame you..." he admitted reluctantly. "I probably would've done the same. If anything, I'm actually impressed. I'm used to fighting big guys with lots of muscle. Your speed caught me off-guard."
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 1:18 PM
Reluctantly she extended a hand, "Thank you. For accepting." Brightly she smiled, wisps of her dual colored hair falling into her eye, "I will take that as a high praise from such a skilled fighter"
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 1:20 PM
Shulbari took the hand and gave it a firm squeeze and shake. "I still don't fully trust you but, I can acknowledge when I got my ass kicked and that you haven't done anything wrong yet." he admitted. "I will keep my eye on you, though and if you do anything to harm my village, I will personally beat the freaky scales off your ass." he warned.
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 1:23 PM
"Understood." She said and squeezed back. "Hopefully I will be allowed to stay. I have mo where else to go."
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 1:49 PM
Shulbari shrugged, "Not my decision to make or I'd definitely say no. There's too many outsiders in our village as is and it's getting hard to keep track of all of you." Raja rolled his eyes. "Wouldn't be so hard if you'd learn to trust them. The Alvia have been here all this time and have done nothing wrong." he protested, trying to make Shulbari listen to reason.
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 2:02 PM
She released the man's hand then patted Raja's shoulder, "It is fine. Nothing worth having g is gained in a single day. " Looking back over to Shulbari, "I think it is best we take our leave so he may rest."
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 2:11 PM
"It's when you let your guard down that someone dies!" Shulbari snapped at Raja. "If I'd kept my guard up, we might not have lost three of our villagers but I figured two hunters should be plenty to keep a researcher safe outside the walls. Most we have to worry about are animals. I was stupid and I let the village and those three down." he ranted and then he turned and slammed his fist into a wooden beam so hard that it actually splintered. The sudden jerking motion caused his ribcage to ache and he winced before falling back onto the bed. "Get out of here...." he snarled, holding his side and refusing to look at them. Raja looked at the pitiful, broken man. For so long he saw Shulbari as this untouchable man of muscle and power but, ever since they lost villagers, Shulbari seemed fragile. He wanted to reach out but, he knew Shulbari would take that as more of an insult than a comfort. "Yeah, we should go..." he mumbled and turned to leave.
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 4:43 PM
Giving only a quick glance back Alder sighed and continued to walk out. Once far enough away, "He blames himself...." Alder more stated then asked.
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 5:02 PM
"He sees himself as a protector and, when people needed his protection, he was in the mess hall getting drunk and joking with hunters. He didn't even know there was a threat." Raja explained solemnly. "After that, we got hit by droughts, floods, earthquake and other disasters he couldn't do anything about. He shoulders all that burden and it makes him act like an ass at times."
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 7:22 PM
"Does..... he normally have issues with control?" She wondered
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 8:14 PM
"It's not really control that he has issues with. It's people getting hurt." Raja tried to explain. "He's not unreasonable about it. He knows injuries will happen. Hell, he's probably the most frequent visitor to the med tent besides Cochran but, he doesn't want anyone to die. At least, not from unnatural causes."
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 10:43 PM
"He is admirable. I give him that." She chuckled.
robbedragon — 3/5/24, 11:05 PM
"He's a stubborn psychopath." Raja retorted with a chuckle of his own. "I don't know if I believe it but one of the hunters has a story where a boar snapped his spear off in its hide and refused to go down. Shulbari proceeded to jump on the things back and punch it repeatedly in the head until it was unconscious before another hunter moved in for the kill." he recalled. "In all honesty, if you're ever in a dangerous spot, Shulbari is the one you want at your side. He's come back from wounds that would down a normal man."
Swamp Siren — 3/5/24, 11:26 PM
She nodded as she walked. "So now ehat?" (edited)
robbedragon — 3/6/24, 11:23 AM
"Well...." Raja stopped and looked around. "I could give you that tour and, end it at the hunter's guild." he suggested. "You're clearly a skilled fighter and the hunter's guild serves as not only our main way to get meat other than fish but, the equivalent to our village guards. This way, you can see if they'll take you. Plus, it will show the elders that you're already considering ways to help the village which might help in their consideration of letting you stay." he explained, showing how much of a natural he'd become at helping people fit in to the village after the Alvia arrivals.
Swamp Siren — 3/10/24, 12:01 AM
"A very sound idea. I could use my skills to help the village..... and not hitting Shul-Bar-Ee."
robbedragon — 3/10/24, 12:03 AM
"Nah, it's probably for the best you keep knocking him down a peg." Raja jested. "Keep him humble so that big ego of his doesn't get him in trouble."
Swamp Siren — 3/10/24, 12:14 AM
"Now that, my dear Rah-Jah, I can do," she said with a smile and a wink.
robbedragon — 3/10/24, 12:15 AM
Raja opened the door and held it wide for her. "After you, my lady." he teased.
Swamp Siren — 3/10/24, 12:20 AM
With a bow to him she entered, "Thank you." Not paying any mi d to the stares she got, Alder sat the umbrella down then took in the building. (edited)
robbedragon — 3/15/24, 10:31 PM
The hunter's guild was a rustic little hut that served as storage for the village's weapons like bows and spears. "Alder, welcome to the hunter's guild." Raja announced.
Swamp Siren — 3/16/24, 11:32 AM
She took in the building and slowly nodded in an appreciative manner. "I think I will get along just fine here."
robbedragon — 3/16/24, 12:57 PM
"With this and the apology to Shulbari, the only reason the elder's could deny you is if they were hung up on bigoted information from stories that nobody can seem to agree on." Raja pointed out. "Now, I don't know anything about the hunter's guild since I'm just a seamster but, I will stick by your side while you try to find the leader, I guess." he offered.
Swamp Siren — 3/16/24, 2:13 PM
"Thank you Rah Jah. Really. You have done so much gor me."
robbedragon — 3/16/24, 2:38 PM
"It's hard enough being separated from everything you know. You don't deserve to be lonely on top of that." Raja offered with a shrug. "Just do your best for us and I'll make sure we do our best by you." he promised.
Swamp Siren — 3/16/24, 8:42 PM
"You have my word." with a smile she began looking for the guild master. It took time, alot of explaining, and more than once assuring the poor individual she had no intent of harming anyone. Now she was a hunter and scout for the village.
robbedragon — 3/16/24, 10:52 PM
Surprisingly, Alder seemed fine navigating the social pitfalls of the hunter's guild and managed to handle things pretty well on her own. For the most part, he just stuck back and let her mingle. The hunters had already seen or heard about how she bested Shulbari so, they were more than willing to hear her out and didn't seem to put any thought into her origins.
Swamp Siren — 3/19/24, 8:18 PM
Pleased with the out come Alder made her way out of the hunters guild, "Should we return to the elders?" (edited)
robbedragon — 3/19/24, 11:03 PM
"It's probably a good idea to give them some time to deliberate." Raja suggested. "For now, let's go home and relax. I'm sure when they've made their decision, they'll send a messenger to get you." he figured.
Swamp Siren — 4/1/24, 10:06 PM
"I'm sure you're right .." she sighed. "Be hard to relax though."
robbedragon — 4/1/24, 10:41 PM
Raja thought about it for a moment. "How about instead of relaxing, you help me design a better outfit for you to wear when you're outside the village? This way, if you become a hunter, you'll have better clothes and, if the worst happens, you'll have something warm to wear and remember me by." he suggested.
Swamp Siren — 4/2/24, 7:41 AM
This warmed her heart. Without trying Alder really had made a friend. "I could never ask more of you. You've already done so much."
robbedragon — 4/2/24, 11:51 AM
"You act as if this is something that requires payment." Raja pointed out as they approached his dwelling. "I don't know how things are where you're from but, in this village, we look out for each other. We may not always agree or like each other but, if you need help, you can always count on another villager to help you. It's how we manage to survive through anything. We use our gifts and talents to lift others, not take advantage of them."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 10:52 AM
Softly smiling she sighed, "Then I will just have to use my talents to help the village in turn." With a warmed heart she nodded, "Thank you. Rah-Jah."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 12:06 PM
"That's all anyone can expect of anyone else." Raja assured her and then he headed inside to get started on designing her a good hunting outfit.
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 1:22 PM
Following him in she gave idea and concepts for an outfit that would accommodate her tail.
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 1:27 PM
The tail made for an interesting obstacle as it meant a waistband on pants would be harder to fashion and he hadn't quite figured out a way to do that yet but he would in time. "For now, how about a leather tunic with a leather skirt?" he suggested. "Your legs won't be quite as well protected but, I may be able to create some long boots from leather that go further up your leg than a normal boot would."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 1:32 PM
"Not the kind of tail you're used to working with," she mused. "I think tall boots and skirt would work just fine." tracing a hand along the outer part of her leg, "I do have thicker scales her. Better protection. "
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 1:56 PM
"I did notice that..." Raja admitted. "The leather won't do much if you're attacked by a knife or arrow and your scales will provide much better protection against something like that but, it can help cover and protect the more sensitive areas like your chest and torso." he pointed out and he got to work sketching up a few ideas. (edited)
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 2:20 PM
Pulling up a chair she sat and watched him work. "You have sn eye for detail. "
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 2:24 PM
Without looking up, Raja chuckled. "Have to in this line of work. Every stitch must be precise and, if you know what you're doing a good outfit can tell a story on its own. When people talk about big events in their life, they rarely remember what they were wearing but, the clothes played an important role in making that event happen, even if they don't realize it." he mused as he drew out an intricate pattern into the sketch. "After all, what you're wearing helps with how you look and, you never know if your soulmate looks at you because something caught his eye or, if it was pure happenstance."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 2:48 PM
She hummed softly as she contemplated. "I had never considered it from that perspective, but you are correct. A wedding ceremony would indeed appear unusual without a beautiful dress."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 2:54 PM
Raja looked up and grinned, "Oh I love weddings! They're the one event where the woman will remember what she was wearing and probably even keep that dress to pass down to her daughter."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 3:03 PM
"Is that a thing here?" Alder hadn't heard of it before.
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 3:45 PM
"Life-partner ceremonies are a thing." Raja assured her. "We used to have a certain way to do it but, after the other villagers migrated here, it kinda just became a mixture of everyone's customs. The general rule is, you have to say you promise yourself to the other for life, though."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 4:05 PM
Nodding along she watched him work. "Probably something that will never happen for me."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 4:17 PM
"I wouldn't be so sure of that, honey." Raja giggled. "People are scared of you right now because of stories that are so ancient, nobody can agree on what actually happened but, they'll get over it and when they do, they'll love you. Besides, girl, you got a body that works those curves."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 5:22 PM
"I'm sure the tail will throw others off." Alder responded with a sigh. "And the scales. I'm just too alien for these people."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 5:24 PM
"Everyone has flaws that their partner has to be willing to accept." Raja pointed out. "To you, your flaws are all external so, you know that anyone who is willing to try and date you is ready to accept them immediately."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 5:46 PM
Leaning onto the flat surface Alder folded her arms, "I cant say I feel the same, but if you are right and someone decides they are interested. ...... I will buy you the finest cloth of your choosing."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 5:48 PM
"You could always make the first move..." Raja suggested. "I mean, if you find someone you like just tell them you like them."
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 6:19 PM
"First." She purred in her rich accent, "I have to get to know the people here to see if anyone does Interest me. So far. I only know you and Shul-bar-ee."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 6:40 PM
"Well, I'm out for obvious reasons which leaves Shulbari and, honey, you can do better." Raja replied with a playful giggle. He then pushed the finished design towards her. "What do you think?"
Swamp Siren — 4/3/24, 7:34 PM
Propping her cheek on her hand she grinned, "I could do better? Didn't you say you liked him?" When he pushed the design over to her she looked it over. "I do like this. Beautiful but effective to keep me safe while in the woods."
robbedragon — 4/3/24, 10:02 PM
Raja blushed and shook his head. "He was one of the first people to stand up for me when others picked on me for liking men and he can be sweet at times." he explained, feeling like he suddenly needed to justify his crush. "That being said, he has many flaws that he needs to work out."
Swamp Siren — 4/5/24, 12:25 PM
A warm smell spread over her lips. "I am only teasing. I don't think you gave to worry. He is certainly not interested. "
robbedragon — 4/5/24, 12:49 PM
"Yeah, you don't have to tell me twice. He's made that abundently clear." Raja sighed. "It's just... He really can be a nice guy once you get past the crusty exterior. He just puts so much pressure on himself to keep everyone safe. If he'd learn that he doesn't have to be the only protector of the entire village, he'd probably calm down."
Swamp Siren — 4/5/24, 12:53 PM
With a chuckle, "I meant interest in me."
robbedragon — 4/5/24, 12:55 PM
Raja snickered, "I wouldn't be so sure about that." Shulbari had been pretty subtle but, the thing about checking out someone subtly is, it doesn't work if you yourself are being subtly checked out and Raja may have stopped crushing on Shulbari but it didn't mean he couldn't window shop.
Swamp Siren — 4/8/24, 8:46 PM
Bringing everything back on track, "So." Sliding the design back to him, "I think this will work beautifully. "
robbedragon — 4/8/24, 11:19 PM
That pulled Raja's attention back and he smirked. "I can probably make this in about a day or two." he assured her. "While I get started on this, you may want to go out and assert yourself into the village. Get to know people and get them to know you."
Swamp Siren — 4/15/24, 6:45 PM
"You are probably right." She nodded then gave a sly smile, "I promise to be on my best behavior. "
robbedragon — 4/15/24, 7:37 PM
"Hey, it's your ass on the line if you don't." Raja teased. "Don't want Shulbari to end up in the medical ward again after you mouths off and you kick his ass."
Swamp Siren — 4/15/24, 8:26 PM
"He will have to get out of the ward first." She laughed and left her new friend to his work.
robbedragon — 4/15/24, 11:46 PM
"I have a feeling he won't be there very long." Raja assured her. "Shulbari doesn't like the medical ward and doesn't listen to doctors very well."
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 8:29 AM
This didn't fill her with much confidence. He obviously didn't like her and she hoped once he was out of the ward; he wouldn't start purposely looking for her. With a wave she left the hut and made her way around the village, hands folded neatly behind her back. Villagers either ignored her or stared but they all kept her at a distance.
robbedragon — 4/16/24, 11:17 AM
"What in the Hells are you looking at?!" a boisterous Shulbari snapped as he charged out of the medical hut. He was naked from the waist up aside from the bandage that now covered the majority of his abs and wrapped over his chest. "Shulbari, you need to take it easy!" a female voice called. "Your ribs are bruised but, if you break them, you could puncture a wound." the nurse continued protesting, hoping logic may lure him back to his bed. "They'll heal." Shulbari growled, glancing back over his shoulder. He was never a huge fan of the medical ward and, as long as he could stand and move, they were never able to keep him on one of the cots, no matter how many times he ended up in there. One of the nurses had questioned why he despised staying in the medical hut so much but he'd become sullen and refused to talk to her after that.
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 1:31 PM
Leaving the portable shade behind Alder walked enjoying the sun. She still squinted a little so the light didn't hurt her eyes, but she enjoyed the warm rays, the soft puffy clouds that trailed across the blue sky, and the vibrant colors. Light glittered across her scales with every move, like dark jewels.
robbedragon — 4/16/24, 1:40 PM
Now that he was free of that god-awful medical hut, Shulbari enjoyed the warm glow of the sun. "Ahhh... Not a cloud in the sky..." he breathed out a sigh of relief. Whenever the sky was overcast, it tended to sour his mood but, on a bright sunny day like today, he couldn't help but be cheerful. Even the throbbing pain in his ribs seemed to lessen now that he was outside and enjoying it. He decided to take a walk through town and check the perimeter to ensure there were no ways for the outcasts to sneak in. There were already enough threats in the village in his opinion.
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 8:06 PM
Taking a leisurely stroll through the quaint village, Alder inhaled deeply, savoring the fresh air. While she would undoubtedly miss her former residence, the place of her origin, she couldn't help but feel a growing fondness for this new environment.
ShulbariAPP — 4/16/24, 9:45 PM
Closing his eyes and just taking in the warmth and fresh air, Shulbari ambled along. He had just rounded a corner when he slammed into something or someone.
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 9:54 PM
Stumbling back Alder yelped. She hadn't seen anyone or anything, but then again she had been squinting.
ShulbariAPP — 4/16/24, 9:57 PM
"Watch where you're goi-" Shulbari started to snap and then he realized who he'd bumped into. "Oh, it's you..." he growled.
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 10:01 PM
Straightening her clothes, she inquired politely, "I see you are well enough to be discharged from the medical ward. Are you fully healed?" She was cautious not to provoke any anger in him.
ShulbariAPP — 4/16/24, 10:18 PM
"Nah but I couldn't stay cooped up inside any longer." Shulbari admitted. "You got me pretty good but don't think you'll be so lucky next time." he warned her.
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 10:39 PM
"I really hope there isn't a next time...." She sighed. "The elder might kick me out... and I doubt I'll ever make it back home." She hung her head, "I'd be lost again..."
ShulbariAPP — 4/16/24, 10:41 PM
"The elders don't kick people out for getting into fights. If so, I'd be an outcast by now. We even have a fighting pit to blow off some steam. I can show it to you if you want." he offered. He figured he might as well try to be hospitable if the elders were intending to let her stay.
Swamp Siren — 4/16/24, 11:09 PM
Quirking a brow, "A fighting pit? There's a fighting pit?"
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 11:36 AM
"Yep! The hunters and fishermen use it the most to blow off steam but it can be used to settle disputes. As long as you don't kill each other, everything is free game." Shulbari explained and he started walking towards it. "Come on, I'll show you."
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 1:42 PM
Blinking a few times Ader stared at him for a moment then followed. This couldn't be the same man that attacked her, could it? As a thin cloud passed the sun beamed brighter, causing the Dalvis to shade her lavender eyes with her hand. "Do you often take part in the fights?"
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 1:47 PM
"Every chance I get." he announced proudly. "Hunting builds up muscle but, you also have to have the skills. Never know what dangers lurk outside of the village walls that walk on two legs instead of four."
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 1:51 PM
Tail swaying she considered his words. "If I am allowed to stay...... I will strive to protect this place with my life." Her free hand flicked in a soft circular motion, "Perhaps I should start training in the pit.... if it wouldn't make me seem like a threat...."
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 2:23 PM
"It probably wouldn't be a bad idea." Shulbari admitted. "We're used to fighting other homia. The alvia don't fight in the pit very often as they prefer to use bows over close combat. It would help us train against enemies that use speed over brute force." he pointed out. "...and I wouldn't worry too much about the elders. They tend to do the opposite of whatever I say just to annoy me so they'll probably let you stay just because they think you can kick my ass."
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 2:49 PM
"To be fair...." a grin played over her lips, "I did. Though it was a spur of the moment attack. I may not fare so well in a long, drawn out battle." Opting not to hurt his ego, Alder chose the truthful, but leave room for the possibility for him to our match her.
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 3:02 PM
"I'm already aware of how your fighting style works. You dodge your opponents and strike at opening with quick jabs, aiming for spots that can do damage with the least amount of force needed but, I also noticed you were holding back. The knee you gave me should've broken a rib, not just cracked it. You don't follow through with the full force to your blows in case you need to pull back to dodge another attack." he informed her. "We both have room for improvements in our techniques, it would seem."
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 3:22 PM
Nearly tripping Alder stopped and stared at his back. In equal parts she was baffled, unnerved, and impressed with his observations. Shulbari had figured her out, all with that o e brief meeting. "You have a keen eye."
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 3:55 PM
He let out a scoff. "I've been fighting in the pit since I was a boy. It's my job to protect this village and, knowing your enemy is as much a part of the fight as the actual blows you land or don't land." he explained. They arrived at the pit which was a dug out area on the beach. "This is the fighting pit. It used to be just something the fishermen did but, as it got more and more popular, the elders decided to make it a normal part of the village. They even use it sometimes to settle disputes of opinion where there really isn't a right or wrong answer but the villagers won't quit fighting about it. Although, lately that's been guys fighting over the attention of that floozy bard Amali." he added that last part as a jest.
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 5:21 PM
"Floozy? I'm sorry. I don't know that word." Standing beside him she flinched at the sun gleaming off the water. Letting her eyes adjust for a moment she nodded in an appreciative manner. "I think it is fair to tell you once I am officially apart of the village I have asked to join the hunters guild."
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 6:16 PM
"Fine but don't think you're gonna have free reign to go where you please. I still don't know you or trust you so I'll be keeping an eye on you. We'll see how you hunt and that'll tell me your character. You're clearly not as bloodthirsty as the old folks say from the tales cause you didn't slit Raja's puny little throat in his sleep which makes you a more patient person than me already." As he spoke, he eased himself down into the pit.
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 6:59 PM
It was then it struck her. There was two reasons he didn't know her. The first and obvious was she was new. The second, Alder realized, was when she apologized... She never gave her name. Nor could she remember if Raja had said it. Slowly she held her hand out towards him, "I realize I never told you my name. I'm Alder. I come from the village of Starglow, a part of islands south west of here called Night jungle." After a moment she hesitated, thinking she was pushing g her luck to get a second hand shake in a day Alder slightly withdrew her hand. "It is a dark place..... And though it is beautiful..." she sighed and looked away, "I found it to be so depressing. I had went to the forests edge, to feel the warm sun.... when.." shaking her head she looked up at him through her white eye lashes, "I'm sorry.... I'm sure you don't want to hear about it."
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 7:02 PM
He gave a shake of his head and chuckled. "You gotta loosen up a bit." he teased. "Look, Alder, if you promise not to hurt anyone in my village, I'll give you a chance. I still think you're a scaled freak of nature, though."
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 7:42 PM
Chuckling she gave a soft smile. "I will certainly agree to this. I have been treated with kindness, mostly by Rah-Jah. I will defend this place and it's people with my life." gently nudging his elbow with hers, "When you are well we should have e a rematch. I'd like to see how I would fare against a powerful opponent. "
ShulbariAPP — 4/17/24, 8:13 PM
"Don't think this little bruise is gonna keep me laid up for long. Three days tops and I'll be in more than enough shape to kick your scaled ass." he boasted. "Now that I know you rely on speed, I think I can take you out."
Swamp Siren — 4/17/24, 8:43 PM
"Then I'll see you in three days. Let's see if you can keep up." She laughed. He seemed like a completely different person. And almost likeable...... if she ignored that he kept referring to her scales.
ShulbariAPP — 4/18/24, 8:00 AM
"I'd fight you now but I'm under strict doctor's order not to strain myself and last time I disobeyed those orders, someone threatened to hit me with a frying pan." Shulbari admitted. "Try to avoid the medical ward if you can."
Swamp Siren — 4/18/24, 11:21 AM
"That is why I said three days." Stepping out onto the beach Alder strode out towards the pit. Head tilted down and eyes shielded she eyed scanned the area. It wasn't far where she had washed up. First arriving she was more concerned with finding shelter. Now Alder knelt down and picked up a seashell. With her tail curled clise she turned it over as she marveled at its color and texture.
ShulbariAPP — 4/18/24, 1:31 PM
"I'm going to go patrol the wall." he informed her.
Swamp Siren — 4/18/24, 1:51 PM
With the small she stood abd dusted the sand from her legs, "Do you mind if I join you? It will give me a chance to learn more of the duties for the hunters guild."
ShulbariAPP — 4/18/24, 3:01 PM
"You're welcome to but this isn't one of the hunter guild duties. The labor guild guards and they're supposed to check the walls." he explained. "I do it because I want to ensure the outcasts can't sneak in and steal anything."
Swamp Siren — 4/18/24, 4:31 PM
"You do this by yourself?" She knew Rajah had said Shulbari was protective of the village. But if he was always patrolling the walls, "Let me help. Two is better than one."
ShulbariAPP — 4/18/24, 5:21 PM
"I don't trust you yet." Shulbari stated bluntly. "If you want to check with me, that's fine but until I do trust you, I will continue to look myself."
Swamp Siren — 4/18/24, 7:19 PM
She wasn't surprised honestly. It hadn't really been that long since she had arrived. Softly sighing Alder lowered her head and nodded, "I understand. "
ShulbariAPP — 4/18/24, 7:36 PM
"At least I'm being reasonable with you." Shulbari pointed out. "I tried to have the alvia forced out of the village by inciting a riot." he admitted.
Swamp Siren — 4/18/24, 7:53 PM
Turning the shell over she watched the sun light played across its surface, "Like I said." Raising her head, her lavender eyes stared up at him, "I understand. "
ShulbariAPP — 4/18/24, 10:37 PM
"In my defense, they showed up and then we had back to back calamities happen like a drought, flooding, earthquakes and more." he pointed out as he started back towards the village. "I was convinced they brought it on our village."
Swamp Siren — 4/19/24, 1:19 PM
Was it her, or was Shulbari trying a hard to prove he will do what needed to be done AND defend the fact that he would do it. "I'm sorry to hear the village had it rough. The Alvia...." Alder sighed as she followed along, "Well there is no nice way to say this. They can be utter fools."
ShulbariAPP — 4/19/24, 1:25 PM
"They're prudes with sticks shoved up their ass." he stated bluntly as they walked. He'd stop periodically to move plants aside and check the wall. "It doesn't help that everyone obsesses about how 'beautiful' they are. If I were to settle down, I want someone strong at my side. Someone I can take on a hunt and trust to have my back as much as I have hers. Not some bookworm who can't hold their own in a fight."
Swamp Siren — 4/19/24, 1:43 PM
"That is something we both can agree on." Finding a low hanging branch Alder checked it's bark. It was similar to one that grew near her old village. Carefully she peeled the bark in long stripes, then split those several times until it was fine fibers. Carefully the Dalvis worked the fibers into a delicate cord, the shell's base wrapped at the midpoint before she continued. It took some time but eventually Alder tied a new necklace around her neck.
ShulbariAPP — 4/19/24, 3:13 PM
Shulbari noticed a hole that seemed to be forming around the north wall and he started gathering up rocks and stones to fill it in. It wouldn't hold permanently but it would mean whomever dug the hole would need to dig it back out in order to get in.
Swamp Siren — 4/19/24, 3:17 PM
Seeing him work she settled in to help. Grabbing up rocks Alder passed them over for him to ace before locating more.
ShulbariAPP — 4/19/24, 3:27 PM
Reaching down to grab a large boulder and put in the way, Shulbari strained. He could feel the pain in his ribs but he ignored it, pushing through as he lifted the boulder up and lugged it slowly over to the hole.
Swamp Siren — 4/19/24, 3:50 PM
Sliding her hands under the stone she tried to help him lift. "I'm looking forward to a rematch in three days Shul-bar-ee. Let me help so I know when we meet on the pit, I will see you at your best." Alder knew full well, based on his pride, telling g him to take it easy so he doesn't hurt himself would only piss him off. She was hoping thus tactic would be received better.
ShulbariAPP — 4/19/24, 4:42 PM
He started to protest but, hearing her say she wanted to make sure he was fighting at his best kinda eased the burden on his pride. "Don't worry. I'll be more than ready to tear your ass up in three days, rookie." he assured her.
Swamp Siren — 4/19/24, 4:57 PM
He wanted to tease? Ok then. Leaning close she smiled coyly, "You don't know me. Remember? I may not be a rookie."
ShulbariAPP — 4/19/24, 5:02 PM
"You're new to the village, new to the hunter's guild and new to me. That makes you a rookie." he pointed out, dropping the boulder in place. "You can fight but that doesn't mean you can hunt or act like us."
Swamp Siren — 4/19/24, 5:17 PM
"Fair point." she sighed. Seems he was oblivious to teasing. "I'll just have to prove myself to you."
ShulbariAPP — 4/19/24, 6:22 PM
He smirked and chuckled. "...and don't think I didn't catch that. You may be female but those wiles won't work on me. I'm a man on a mission and I won't be easily distracted."
Swamp Siren — 4/22/24, 8:50 PM
"Hm!" She grinned, "Just testing. Seeing how you handle things. Can you blame me? I want yo know everything I can about a strong opponent. "
ShulbariAPP — 4/22/24, 9:15 PM
"You won't get in my head. At best, you're a rival. At worst, you're an enemy." he stated bluntly. "Rivals I compete with and enemies I destroy. You do not want to be the latter."
Swamp Siren — 5/7/24, 10:00 PM
"I accept rival. I could use something to work towards. A way to push to better myself. "
robbedragon — 5/7/24, 10:02 PM
"Rivals I can deal with for now." Shulbari conceded. "Now, let's see you prove yourself as a hunter." he added and started walking towards the hunting lodge.
Swamp Siren — 5/7/24, 10:04 PM
Not hesitating she followed him. "And how am I supposed to prove myself?"
robbedragon — 5/7/24, 10:05 PM
"You'll find out when you get to the lanes." he assured her.
Swamp Siren — 5/8/24, 7:50 AM
Alder wasn't sure if she should start worrying now or atleast hear him out. Crossing her arms she kept pace with him, "What are 'lane'?"
robbedragon — 5/8/24, 10:49 AM
"The lanes are for training." Shulbari explained. "It's behind the hunter's guild and has dummies and targets to practice your up-close combat and your ranged combat."
Swamp Siren — 5/18/24, 3:05 PM
Hands folded behind her she followed him. For a man not liking her presence in the village, he was tolerating her pretty well
ShulbariAPP — 5/18/24, 3:08 PM
After a bit of silent walking, they reached the spot and he grabbed up a spear. He tossed it up, grabbed it under hand, leaned back and launched it 40 feet at a bullseye. "This is the lanes. It's where we hunters practice our spears and bows. If you're going to hunt with us, you might as well put the work in." he offered.
Swamp Siren — 5/18/24, 8:44 PM
Grabbing a spear she checked it's weight. Not bad. She then gagged the distance to the target. Felt the wind flow past her pointed ears. Heating the weapon she threw it with all her might.
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 7:44 PM
With an impressed grunt, Shulbari looked her over. "You aren't half bad. You might be of use to the village after all." he admitted somewhat begrudgingly. "Keep practicing and you might be able to feed the whole village."
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 7:56 PM
Tail flicking the sunlight danced and glimmered off her scales. "I'll show you that I am more than that, Shul-Bar-Ee. Hand me a bow and a short sword."
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 8:36 PM
He grabbed the bow and handed it to her. "The swords are sparring weapons so they're blunted." he informed her.
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 9:23 PM
"I'll save that for when you are well the." Taking the bow Alder positioned herself down lane from a target. Knocking an arrow she took her stance, breathed in deep, and drew back. After a moment she let the arrow fly, her breath slowly released as the shaft cleared the bow.
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 9:27 PM
He watched as the arrow sank into the target. It wasn't far off from the center and he had to give a slow clap in response. "Not bad. Pakhet would scold you for not hitting the mark well enough but, you do better than I ever did." he assured her. "I'm shit with a bow."
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 9:33 PM
She didn't remember hearing that name. With a slight huff, "I'm still adjusting to all this light. Where I come from." She placed one end of the bow on the ground and she held the top in both hands as she stared at the arrow. "It is a dense jungle. The canopy so thick no light breaks through it. I am more accustomed to the darkness. "
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 9:38 PM
"I've heard the stories that your people come from the pits of darkness itself. Then again, those same stories say the Alvia are pure being without flaw. I don't believe either anymore. All I believe is my people need to be protected and I can't trust anyone, not even outsiders of our own kind."
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 9:46 PM
"I will tell you I am no threat. Just lost.... and homeless......" returning the bow to him she locked her lavender eyes on his, "I will protect these people with my life."
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 9:48 PM
"Actions are what counts." Shulbari stated bluntly as he took the bow from her and set it on the table. "I will trust you when you've shown you can be trusted. Until then, I'll keep an eye on you."
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 10:01 PM
"Does that mean you will walk me back to Rah-Jah hut?"
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 10:11 PM
"Yeah, can't have you causing trouble along the way." he stated, trying to keep a straight face.
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 10:14 PM
She quirked a brow then turned, "You plan to follow me every day?"
ShulbariAPP — 5/20/24, 10:16 PM
"Until I trust you." Shulbari responded.
Swamp Siren — 5/20/24, 10:58 PM
Leaving from the lanes she made her way out into the streets, "At least I will have a competent guide. "
ShulbariAPP — 5/21/24, 8:34 AM
Following after her, Shulbari couldn't help but chuckle. "Just gotta make sure you don't sabotage anything along the way." he ensured her but, he couldn't help but admire the view. Now that he wasn't looking at her as purely a threat to be taken out, he couldn't help but notice the way her scales caught the light and accentuated her curves or how they stood out, shining against her onyx skin. No, she was an exotic and beautiful creature and he couldn't help but let his eyes wander over the back of her body as his mind wandered a bit.
Swamp Siren — 5/21/24, 9:44 AM
"Believe me.... I never planned to." She murdered as she sighed. It was going to be a long hard road for her to find her place toll she could return home. ..... could? If? Did she even want to. Closing her eyes and tilting her head back, she let the sun light warm her face. Even though it was unfamiliar, she felt comfortable here.
ShulbariAPP — 5/22/24, 8:07 PM
"Does the sunlight hurt you?" he wondered. He'd heard that Daelvis and other shadow dwellers actually felt pain in sunlight and could be driven back to the shadows by light.
Swamp Siren — 5/22/24, 8:18 PM
Looking back she blinked her violet eyes at him. "No. I actually enjoy it. It was so depressing to constantly be in the dark. My eyes just aren't used to it."
ShulbariAPP — 5/22/24, 9:17 PM
He couldn't help but snicker. "See? This is exactly what I was talking about earlier with the stories. When I was a boy in the orphanage, we were taught that my kind were the only race that was good and that all the other races either turned on us or abandoned us in our time of need and that one day the shadow races like your kind would return to try and eat our souls but we could chase you away with light because the light burned you and sent you running back to the shadows." he explained. "But then the Alvia showed up and they claim they stood with the Homia against the other races which doesn't match what we learned. Nobody seems to know what really happened so long ago..."
Swamp Siren — 5/22/24, 9:40 PM
Sorrow filled her eyes, "You were an orphan?" Listening to him she nodded, "History is passed down to the young and no one questions it. Even if it is wrong. I am not interested in souls..... Right now I only want a safe place to recover.... " wrapping her arms around herself she rubbed her sides. "The water was not too kind to me."
February 2, 2024
