Sprucetail had been surprised when Sunflight announced to the Clan that she'd be the cat to mentor their newest loner - Twisted Bark. The tomcat was handsome, and around her age, but he had yet to learn how to be a clan cat. Sprucetail had accepted the role of his mentor easily, not for his good looks, of course not, but to make her mothers proud.

After the ceremony, it was well enough past dusk that she'd shown him where to find the fresh kill hole - a hole in the ground, near the Nursery, where prey was stored and the hole covered in the dark hours of the night. Then, she showed him to the Apprentices Den, the hole under a tree that had been scraped away and supported up by the roots of the tree. She spent some time finding an abandoned nest from a former apprentice turned warrior and indicated that he could sleep there. After that, she'd merely informed the tomcat that she would come for him in the morning. Thus, Sprucetail had gotten a meal, turned in for the night and spent the majority of the evening hours up and fussing about how she would handle a fully grown, adult apprentice.

By the following morning, she'd gotten just enough sleep to keep the redness out of her eyes, but she still felt weary. Stretching in her nest as the dawn sun rose, she left the Warriors Den and walked to the Apprentices Den.
"Twisted Bark!" She called from outside. "It's time to start your training. Wake and ready yourself; meet me by the Prey Pile. I'll brief you on our day's plans upon your arrival."

With that, she turned and headed to the prey pile herself, poking her nose through the available prey, she pulled a squirrel from the pile and settled down in a crouch to eat it. She hoped that Twisted Bark would arrive soon, rather than later, but really, she had no idea what to expect from the tomcat. All the Clan really knew about him was that he was fascinated by trees. Well, he'd certainly found himself in the right Clan for that, but what was he like as a feline? Was he chatty and cheerful, or withdrawn and shy? Would he be a pawful to control, or follow her instructions better than apprentices younger than he? She didn't know how she was meant to find this all out, and she especially didn't know if she could find it out all in the first day of them training together, but with a quick prayer to SunClan to guide her paws and send her confidence in her newest task, she focused on filling her belly. Either Twisted Bark would arrive, or he wouldn't. Either way, it would certainly set the tone for the rest of the day.
