Trainer: Eulalio
Project: Task: #01 - Meet the Locals
Assignment: Assignment 6: Study a Lefmew
Requirement Proof: Sundrop the Lefmew

Options Chosen: physical quirks and temperament!

Physical QuirksIns + Lore3... these pokémon are mostly fluffy fur! Its body underneath the puff is quite small and light - enough that they can float on a good breeze with just a few flaps of their leaves!

TemperamentClever + Etiquette2... these pokémon are highly sociable and drawn to others, even other species. No matter their nature, they are most comfortable when around other creatures.

It was a new dawn, a new day and Eulalio was feeling on top of the world. They'd had a great night's sleep and everyone had been calm and not caused any messes overnight. Eulalio was ready and willing to get these lefmew tasks taken care of. There were two tasks left to try out and one lefmew sitting and waiting patiently for him to get on with what he was going to do. They could do this!

Taking a breath, Eulalio picked up lefmew and started petting it.Thinking it over, it'd be better to start with the physical quirks. Obviously it was cat shaped, with super soft fur and two giant leaves on its head. As Eulalio tried to find anything else to write about, Sundrop snuggled into him and meeped. His heart melted and he had to spend several minutes petting and cooing to Sundrop. When Baby started stropping against his legs he had to sit down to give his two pokemon their much deserved pets.

It took him more than a few minutes, but he managed to tear himself away to go back to the research tasks. Where had he been? Oh, right, physical quirks. After noting down his observations about any physical quirks lefmew had, Eulalio moved on to temperament. That was just figuring out what sort of personality traits they all shared, right?

Well for one, Sundrop always seemed so lonely, and desperately clung to whichever friendly creature was nearby. It didn't seem to matter whether it was Eulalio themself, or Baby or Dusk Rose. Sundrop wasn't actually alone in that and Eulalio remembered seeing lefmews always in groups of two or more. Sundrop in particular, though, was always following him around and loved to ride in his hair or be held.

Sitting and holding his lefmew as he chewed on the end of a pencil, Eulalio thought more about it. Sundrop got along with every other pokemon they'd ever been around and in fact seemed to prefer it to being alone. Baby certainly liked other pokemon, but not to quite that extent. Sundrop seemed happier and healthier with the addition of Baby and Rose into their group and it made Eulalio wonder if they would like another lefmew in the group?

Though Sundrop was a pretty unique lefmew. Brighter and more vibrant than their friends, they stood out when there was a group of them. But then again, that never seemed to bother any of his pokemon. Nor did Sundrop act any different about itself than other lefmews. Not that Eulalio would know the difference if it wasn't obvious.

Taking all of his pokemon outside for a bit, Eulalio pulled out a sketchbook to take down sketches of lefmew to turn in with his research. A couple half done sketches in and he looked up to see Sundrop surrounded by a group of other lefmew. Laughing, he couldn't help but click a picture with his phone before going back to sketches. Lefmews were such social creatures and he loved that about them.

You know, actually, Sundrop did deserve another friend. Next time he was out exploring if he could, he was going to try to get a lefmew friend for his lefmew. Should he try to find another one kind of similar to Sundrop so the 'mon wasn't the odd one out? But then, it'd probably be better to find one that's not similar. After all, a group of them were so cute and Sundrop was enjoying spending time with other lefmew. Eulalio could always use more buddies to take out adventuring, so it was a good plan.

Decision made, Eulalio gathered up all his research and went to go turn them in.

Eulalio had gotten halfway to turning in their paperwork when they realized that they still needed to finish gathering data! Plus their sketches were only half done. Pausing in their tracks, they came to an abrupt halt. Sundrop, from atop their head, meeped in confusion.

"Sundrop, I should probably. . get some more data on what you're like. . .right?" Eulalio questioned the lefmew. They just nuzzled into Eulalio's hair and mrrp'd at him. "Thanks, you're a big help," they laughingly told it as they reached up to pet the 'mon. Maybe they should look into what all the researchers wanted to prove statements? Eulalio scooched over to one side of the walkway and leaned against a building. The internet would have some answers, they were sure.

Some internet searches later Eulalio figured they couldn't go wrong with writing things out like it was a science experiment. That meant that they had to start with. . .observations? Or maybe they should start with a question.

Question: 'What is a lefmew's temperament?'
Eulalio flipped to a new page to write out their question. After all, that was what they were trying to answer, right? Ok next step was, they paused to double check the next step online. Ok next step is to do research. How were they supposed to research this? Maybe ask other people with lefmews? But weren't the researchers the ones who didn't know things so they wouldn't be much help.

Chewing on the end of their pencil again, Eulalio decided that just living with lefmew and knowing them for this long was enough. They couldn't really do research on the thing that they were trying to gather research on to have that available now could they.

Research: Currently contributing to. See notes?
They felt that this wasn't going to get them any bonus points with the research team but they ignored that and moved on to the next bit. That would be the hypothesis. So what Eulalio thought was going to be true. Looking up at the 'mon currently sitting in their hair, they felt that they'd have this one down pat.

Hypothesis: Lefmews love being social and are drawn to others regardless of species. They're the most comfortable around other creatures.
Grinning, Eulalio read that bit aloud to Sundrop. "You like being around others don't you Sundrop? Yes you do. After all, you were always so sad when I had to leave you by yourself. But now that there's Baby and Rose, you do much better when I leave them with you." Now how were they supposed to test this out? Leave them with others and leave them by themselves and see how they acted?

They couldn't think of a better way to do it, so that was just going to have to be the plan. Now. . . .how long should they be testing this with experiments for? They didn't want to do things for too long and have lefmew get depressed if they were left alone, but also they needed to prove that they really did thrive in other's company. A week should probably do it, right? They could leave lefmew alone by themself for a couple days, and then with just other lefmews for a couple days, and then spend the last like four days leaving them with various other pokemon. That way they could say that for sure lefmew did best with others.

With the decision made about how they were going to test the temperament on lefmew, they immediately got to work. Heading back to their dorm with Sundrop in tow, they collected a couple small toys and other bits and baubles they thought might be useful to distract the pokemon with. After all, they didn't want to leave them with nothing to do. Even if they did like to just sunbathe for hours at a time. It was different having stuff available for them to do by themself than it was to just leave them alone without any distractions.

"Ok Sundrop. So I gotta do these tests for research. They're gonna pay me good money if I turn in quality work and this helps them write the pokdex entry for you guys. So I know that you like to be around others, and you know you like to be around others, but I am gonna have to leave you alone for a couple days ok? Please don't get too sad about it," Eulalio took the time to explain what they were doing to Sundrop. Even if the pokemon didn't fully understand, it make Eulalio feel better to at least try to explain what they were doing. They set up everything so that Sundrop would have access to whatever they needed. Their little pot was nice and full of good soil to lay in, there were a couple water bowls set up for easy access. A couple of toys were set up, a feather on a string was attached to the desk, a small plush toy for them to chew was on the floor. There was even a lumpy ball set up to get nudged around.

Eulalio worried that it maybe wouldn't be enough, but they took a deep breath and decided it would work. Sundrop was settled in their pot and sunbathing by the time Eulalio had everything ready. It wasn't too late, thank goodness, so this day could count as one of the days Sundrop needed to be alone. Gathering Baby, and thanking the stars that Rose was out doing whatever Rose did normally when she wasn't being a menace to Eulalio, they left Sundrop alone in the room.

They'd have to pop in every now and again to check on them, but otherwise they'd be left to themself for the rest of the day. The last thing that Eulalio heard as they shut the door was a confused mrrrp before the door was shut between them. Baby started to squirm nearly immediately after the door was shut, not wanting to be held, but Eulalio contained them as best they could.

"Baby, I know you want to be in the room with Sundrop, but we're doing experiments here now! I gotta finish this research properly so that they give me money so I can get more things for when we go out of town. And I know that you can kick the butts of whoever is out there, but Sundrop can't just yet." It was difficult to talk with Baby complaining the entire time, but they stilled by the time Eulalio was done explaining things. "Alright, we're gonna go. . . .see whose around town, I guess?"

Hefting up Baby, Eulalio turned and meandered away from their dorm to go see who they could talk to. Neither of them much wanted to leave the lefmew alone, but it was necessary for research. The day dragged on as it did when nothing fun was happening. Eulalio managed to stay away from their room aside from a brief check in once or twice. Each time, lefmew seemed so happy to see them and then sad when they left once more without them. Every time they did it, the lefmew seemed to get more and more sad about being left alone. The last time Eulalio checked on them, they tried to leave the room with them, and Eulalio had to gently encourage them back into the room. It nearly broke their heart. Especially since they were going to have to do it again the next day.

Trying to be strong about it, Eulalio wrote down meticulous notes about it and vowed that after this they weren't going to be doing anything like this again. When they went to bed that night, Sundrop was cuddling them so hard that they nearly fell off the bed. They just seemed so happy to have their presence that Eulalio didn't have the heart to push them away. It was going to be hard enough in the morning.

The next morning was even harder for Eulalio. Not only did they have to leave Sundrop first thing, but they had to then leave them alone for the entire rest of the day. Most of one had been bad enough and they felt terribly about doing it again for an entire day. Not to mention they also had to keep Baby and Rose away. Rose still hadn't returned from whatever they were doing, so all they had to contend with was Baby, but she was a handful enough as it was. Since there wasn't anyone to distract her, she kept getting herself into trouble. Eulalio eventually decided that it would be best to just have her in her ball for the rest of the evening, even if she hated it. It was one thing if it was while they were exploring, but while they were "home" she wanted to be able to be out and about. Not that Eulalio blamed her. At this rate, all their pokemon were going to be upset at them before the week was over.

The second day dragged on twice as long as the first had. Sundrop just drooped more and more as Eulalio left them alone. They couldn't even go out to hang out with wild pokemon or anything. That more than anything cemented in Eulalio's mind that these guys were super social. The relief that Eulalio felt when it was over and they could start leaving Sundrop with other pokemon was palpable. Sure they had been getting enough water and sunlight, but they clearly weren't doing so good without the company.

The third and fourth days of the experiment, Eulalio took Sundrop out to where they had spotted a group of wild lefmew. They hung around for the first half a day, making sure that nobody was going to bother the lil guy, but everyone got along swimmingly. There were a couple that Sundrop really seemed to get along with, and if Eulalio had the balls, they would have totally tried to catch them a friend. But since they didn't the wild lefmews got left alone.

The last days of the experiment were simple. Just leave Sundrop to interact with various other pokemon and people. This was something that they had to coordinate with other trainers. Baby and Rose were good for at least one day, but that was their team so it made sense for them to get along. Especially since Baby and Sundrop had been going out on expeditions with Eulalio from the start. The key was to expose them to other trainers and their pokemon. Sundrop absolutely flourished with all the different people and pokemon that they were getting exposed to.

It didn't seem to matter to them whether it was other lefmews, other pokemon, or even people, so long as there was company around that they could interact with, Sundrop was happy. In the final days of the test, Eulalio was actually kind of sad that this was going to end. Getting to interact with so many others and learn and show them about Sundrop was fun. While they might not know everything there was to know about this new pokemon, it was exciting to share what they did and potentially learn about other people's pokemon.

When it was finally time to get everything written up and together, Eulalio was glad to have Sundrop at their side. Including the sketches they'd done over the week of Sundrop with various people and pokemon and even just by themselves would surely help out. With everything fully written up and haphazardly tucked into a folder they'd found at the store, it was actually a pretty decently sized packet. Grinning, they took the entire thing and made their way to the research center. If this didn't get them a decent sum of money, they didn't know what more they could offer.
