Hazel was equal parts nervous and excited. She had brought home her new Pokémon home and couldn't help but to sit on the couch and stare. He seemed to enjoy lounging in the sun. She wondered if he just enjoyed the sunlight or since he was plant like, it was some form of photosynthesizing? She kept looking at him, his slightly mismatched eyes watching her right back.
"So... What should I call you?" The Bulbasaur tilted his head and rolled over in the patch of light he had found. Hazel huffed. "I can't tell if you're relaxed or lazy..." She cracked a smile. It would help her if he wasn't super high maintenance. She was already worried that he wouldn't like her. She thought of different ways to accommodate her new friend. She already had a water bowl laid out for him and she made she it was topped off at all time. She chuckled to herself, "Will that work or do I need to water you?" Her laughter seemed to stir him and he waddled over to her and plopped down at her feet.
Her heart instantly melted. She was so worried she wouldn't like him much either. As soon as she laid eyes on him she was smitten. He seemed ok with her picking him up but she still asked. "Hey buddy, I'm gonna pick you up ok?" She carefully lifted him and placed him on her lap. She gently pet his head and sat in reflection. She never grew up with a Pokémon and having one now was... she didn't have the words.
She let out a happy and content sigh, enjoying the weight on her lap. Until a rumble was felt. In the excitement of a new friend she had forgotten to eat. "We should figure out what you like too." She picked up the Bulbasaur and placed him down, with little protest. "We can veg out more later." She grinned at the Bulbasaur who had no idea why she had such a grin. She opened up the fridge and she had a variety of things but not a lot of each. She gathered some veggies, fruit, and a few slices of meat. She set each down on separate plates and watched as she made herself a sandwich.
Bulbasaur shuffled over and examined each one. Then promptly ate each plate. "I..." She was stunned. Perhaps he was hungry after all. She laughed and patted his head. "I'll keep that in mind." She watched him flop over in the patch of light that shifted across the floor. She smiled as she watched while cleaning up their lunch. "I need to name you." She glanced over to her bookshelf. She had several books about plants and gardening, maybe she would find one there? She grabbed a book on flowers and flipped through the pages. "Peony? ...nah." She paced with her nose in the book. "Sweet Pea? Poppy? Oleander?" The Bulba seemed to have perked up a bit at Oleander. "Oleander?" The Pokémon got up from the sunny spot and looked up at Hazel. "Ok then, Oleander!" She knelt down and showered him with affection. "I did say we could cuddle on the couch." She laughed and hoisted him up on the couch with her. "I could make you a ramp to get up here yourself." She had thought of him evolving and outgrowing the ramp and eventually the couch. Oleander seemed to agree with the ramp with a cry. "We'll figure things out together Ollie. I know we will!" She continued to scratch his head, still nervous of touching the bulb on his back. "I wish Gramps could see you. He'd know what to do to make you happy too. I'm still learning but I promise I'll do everything I can for you." She gave Oleander a little squeeze of a hug.
