"Wynmond Collins, get back inside your living quarters this instant."

Lucille Bonnet's voice rang firm and cross in Wynmond's ear, but it wasn't nearly enough to stop the gangly man from shoving an arm into his coat and shouldering open his door. What did Lucille expect? He had just called Wynmond in the dead of the night to announce that Wynmond's assigned egg was hatching, and Wynmond was not going to wait even a second longer getting to it.

"Sorry," he wasn't apologetic at all, "but no can do."

Lucille huffed loudly and the sound of shuffling could be heard from his side. Wynmond was already down the hall and descending the stairs, struggling his other shoulder into his jacket and evidently giving up once he reached the main exit.

"It is storming! They will be here tomorrow, regardless of your whereabouts! Stay home!"
"Too late."
"What do you mean too la- Collins!"
"I'll be there in a few minutes. Bye."

The sound of Lucille's cut-off huff was drowned by the wails and shrieks of the wind as Wynmond left the building and entered the fray of the storm. He quickly ended the call and pocketed his phone before pressing forward. Lucille was going to be pissed with him, but, again, what did he expect? Many of the new trainers on the island were just that; new. This was his first pokemon under his direct care, and Wynmond had been more than ready to collect them from day one. It hadn't helped that they took longer to hatch than Lucille had predicted, adding to the suspense and nerves as days and weeks went by. He had been waiting for this, and Wynmond wasn't going to let a silly thunderstorm stop him from meeting his new best friend.

He shoved his hands right into his pockets and hunched his shoulders to his ears as he pushed forward, starting out at a slow walk that turned into a hurried sprint once he had his bearings. His glasses threatened periodically to fly off into the abyss, but being practically blind wouldn't stop Wynmond from his pursuit. Somehow, by the will of the gods or sheer luck, Wynmond made it to the enrichment center in one piece, where he was met by a furious Lucille at the front door.

"Collins," the tiny man hissed, ruffled and aggravated. He still had the door held open for the much taller man, but the glare Wynmond received as he entered was almost enough to send chills down his spine. Almost.

"You need to get used to people not listening to you when it comes to meeting their starter." Wynmond adjusted his jacket so it properly sat on him and fussed with his hair, attempting to fix the disheveled mess he had become. Lucille drifted past him and further into the center, trailed by a drenched Wynmond.

"How is it going? Are they out yet? Are they okay? Where are the-"
"Collins, please, it is three in the morning. Just- relax. I told you it would be fine whether or not you were here. They are fine."

Wynmond deflated upon himself, silenced only for the moment as they swept through a corridor and arrived within a room he had not seen before. Lucille gestured towards the younger trainer, bringing the both of them to a quiet corner. Wynmond could make out the shards of a shell scattered around a small table, paired with a blanket that bulged as something squirmed under it.

Lucille let out a soft sound of surprise, hurrying to the table and lifting the edge of the blanket, only to drop it suddenly and lock eyes on Wynmond.

"Since you are here already I will give you the honors. Come meet your starter."

Wynmond's heart hammered in his chest, hands shaking as he approached and reached out towards the bundle. It almost didn't feel real- he was about to embark on a new adventure all his own. No- not his own; their adventure. Together. He lifted the blanket and unconsciously squeezed his eyes shut, inhaling slowly before peeking his good eye open to see...

The totodile was on all fours and looked up at Wynmond with surprise, letting out a soft growl in greeting. Wynmond felt his heart swell at the sight of the young reptile, who tilted its head at him and broke out into a wide smile.

"Diiiiile!" It whined, raising its arms up to the man and flexing its fingers at him. Wynmond immediately lifted the totodile into his arms, eyes brimming wet and warm as the totodile burrowed into his chest and yipped in delight. He didn't notice Lucille draw closer at first, too busy fighting overwhelmed tears as he squeezed his starter gently.

"Congratulations, Collins. It seems you will get along just fine. Good luck on your new adventure, both of you. Now, I insist you both stay here until the storm is over. I will make you both something to eat, come with me."
