Welcome for the final time to the shop time skip! Year 1, 2, 3, & 4 of the shop are now finished! Now starts Year 5 of the shop and Year 4 of the time skip. Don't worry if you missed Year 1, 2, or 3 of the event, you can still jump in at any point! Just remember to always start with the current year's starting prompt. How it works:
You can only win one. Please start your first post with your preference of familiars for if you win. It was early spring when the snow finally melted. Not long after, several of the villagers who’d left HollowOak a few years ago to live in the village of the Alvia, FallingFeather, showed up. They traveled by foot and brought wagons filled with food and trading goods. Apparently FallingFeather only felt a tiny tremor from the earthquake, fared just fine through the drought with all their water magic, and only got a few days of light rain from the hurricane. The FeatherFall villagers originally from HollowOak had worried about their old village and so they gathered some supplies and headed back to their first home. Does your character:
Shulbari was shocked to see them returning and his shock quickly turned to anger as he heard how easy they had the last year. "They abandoned to deal with all this bullshit that just so happened to convenient avoid them and then they show back up with bribes to take them back? How do we know they weren't brainwashed and are now sleeper agents for the Alvia?" he demanded.
robbedragon — 01/30/2024 12:01 AM
Cochran was pretty happy to see old friends returning and, since he never blamed the Alvia or magic in the first place, he had no reason to suspect anything would be amiss. As far as he could tell, these were just friends returning with humanitarian aid in a time of great peril. He welcomed them with open arms and went right into catching up with them about their time away.
robbedragon — 01/30/2024 12:06 AM
Hearing how well FeatgerFall weathered the calamities, Raja doubled down on his peace talks. After all, if magic was what cursed their little village, shouldn't the Alvia village have suffered far worse? This was proof that the disasters weren't a god's vengeance but just nature. He went to the elders and urged them to redouble the efforts of the scholars. If they had more magic of varying types, they too might be more prepared for calamities like this.
Rainyaviel — 01/30/2024 12:21 AM
Seeing familiar faces return, especially with helpful provisions in tow, did wonders for Quinn's spirit. She was eager to greet all of her old friends and learn about their experiences in FeatherFall. Hearing that the other village had fared far better than HollowOak during the past year tempted Quinn to renew talks of opening a trade route. She even entertained the thought that maybe she could go with them when they left this time. What would it be like, she wondered, to see a whole new village with a different way of doing things?
Rainyaviel — 01/30/2024 12:24 AM
Nayzee was one of the first to hear about the visitors since she had to prepare extra food for everyone but it didn't take her long to get things started and to a point where she could let someone else watch them for a bit. Certain that she wasn't going to burn anything she slipped out of the kitchen to mingle with some of her old friends who had gone to FeatherFall as well as some of the Alvia she'd befriended during their last visit. If only the past year hadn't been so rough on them maybe she could convince everyone to get into a celebratory spirit.
Rainyaviel — 01/30/2024 12:31 AM
Kimber had missed the Alvia visitors the first time they were in HollowOak and so this was her first time in many years seeing some of the faces who had left to travel with them and see the village of FeatherFall. The woman greeted her old friends with tight hugs and so many questions that it was quite surprising she was even able to write down the responses fast enough to keep up. As she learned more about the other village she couldn't help but wonder if it would be worth traveling herself to do some in-person research.
Swamp Siren — 01/30/2024 9:56 AM
He'd be lying if Cole didn't admit he was happy to see the people return. After everything they went through the goods they brought back would certainly help them get back on their feet.
Swamp Siren — 01/30/2024 9:59 AM
Anastasia was more that ecstatic to see everyone back. She wanted to know everything. What it was like living there. How was things different from their village. And knowing they had it easier j7st proved that having magic was not a bad thing if use for good.
Luna — 01/30/2024 10:04 AM
Since the help had arrived, Toby was starting to feel more at easy, perhaps even hopeful. If the Alvia benefitted then in turn brought help, then perhaps they really could all band together and push through this! Giving a good pat to Bella's head, Toby smiled. "Lets get to work helping out girl." he said, only to be met with a most confused bleat.
Luna — 01/30/2024 10:07 AM
Tailisen remained mostly neutral. While he had moments of worry, he sort of woke up each day with an "Whatever will be will be" mentality. Though he was not originally Alvia, being one now he had to admit the timing was comical, if not truly welcome. He set to work helping carry supplies and distribute where need be but couldn't help but laugh to himself about all this. He probably drew some strange looks for that.
Luna — 01/30/2024 10:09 AM
Gwen felt a huge wave wash over her. Finally some aid! From the Alvia no less! That meant that magic was helpful, perhaps they could learn to work better in tandem, or maybe HallowOak residents could learn magic? Either way, it felt like a huge weight had left her chest and to offer her thanks, went around to those from FeatherFall offering cool drinks or any other aid. After all, it was what she was good at.
Luna — 01/30/2024 10:11 AM
Nayali had been the one to "forsee it in the stars." so to speak, though mostly she really hadn't. It made herself feel better to say that, but as the occurences happened, she always turned her gaze to the stars at night to search for her answers. Sometimes they sparkled hope, sometimes worry, sometimes nothing. But last night, she had seen a sparkle of hope and she smiled. When those from FeatherFall arrived, she simply said. "The stars welcome you!" with joy. Oh perhaps with more magic, HallowOak could start to look upwards to better days?
Luna — 01/30/2024 10:13 AM
Aefyir had been a mix of emotions, really unsure of what the next day would bring. She kept her head down and hoped when it looked like hope was to be had, and feared when fear was more abundant. When FeatherFall arrived, she sought out the Alvia, bringing gifts of cloth and fine silks in return for their aid. If anything, she felt like forming a stronger alliance might be the key, or at least a start.
Luna — 01/30/2024 10:17 AM
Tyler about jumped for joy! Call it the performer in him if you will, but he looked almost comical. Throughout the trials, he did his best to remain positive, putting on a show to try and keep up moral and spirit. A laugh or two to get others through the day. Today was no different, despite the arrival of good news and fortune, Tyler was zipping about, telling jokes and spreading as much joy as he could. See! The benefits of magic! Oh what plays he could write using magic!
Revel — 01/30/2024 10:49 AM
Osha was so relieved to see the villagers of Featherfall, she didn't even care if the Alvia fawned over her presence, she was just so thankful that they were okay and had brought help, She promised to go and visit, if they could just help with supplies in exchange. HollowOak was her home now so if visiting with another village helped hers, she would. She hoped the troubles they'd had, were just bad luck, seeing as the village mainly made of magic users got off so lighty.
Revel — 01/30/2024 10:53 AM
Nari was worried, sure the aid from the other village was welcome she'd be stupid to turn her nose up but the fact they had so much disaster, where the magic village so little was strange... maybe bad luck... but could someone be plotting against their village? she wasn't sure, she had to admit, more magic users could have helped during the drought and the flood, She stayed guarded, thankful but not falling on her knees in gratidude... like some. She still had her job to do with the healers.
Revel — 01/30/2024 10:55 AM
Elton was extremely relieved to see the help from FeatherFall village, he happily traded jewels and jewellery for food and other much needed supplies with the other villagers. This could only be a good thing, he'd been somewhat neutral before but hearing that the other village had so little repurcussions, compared to what his suffered, perhaps it was better to have more magic.
ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ — 01/30/2024 12:36 PM
Praise magic! Imagine if we had stronger magic! We could weather out the weather no problem. How wonderful that they thought of us, and how lucky that it was in our time of need. Tatyana suggests we graciously accept their gift, and be equally gracious hosts. But don’t let them into our armory, eh? Meanwhile, it’s back to work, doing what we can, even at a time like this.
Zakiax — 01/30/2024 4:40 PM
Zak took a neutral stance when the villagers returned. Although grateful for their help, he was still on the fence about this whole magic thing. He could see it as both a blessing and a curse. As it had the potential to cause more harm then good.
DBPyrat — 01/30/2024 6:14 PM
Gunnar was tremendously relieved to see his old neighbors return. After the trials of the last year reuniting with old friends and bolstering the dwindling food supply is a welcome and much needed morale boost.
How that played out:
@robbedragon Some of the villagers felt similar to Shulbari but in the end, the elders dismissed his claim. Shulbari stayed in fantastic health during the spring.
@robbedragon The villagers from FallingFeather appreciated Cochrans but those from HollowOak judged his quick acceptance. Cochran remained in good health during the spring.
@robbedragon Having grown suspicious after such a hard year, nearly all of the village was to busy judging the 'newcomers' to hear Raja's talks of peace. Raja had a case of mild allergies during the spring.
@Rainyaviel Having grown suspicious after such a hard year, nearly all of the village was to busy judging the 'newcomers' to hear Quinn's talks of trade. Quinn stayed in decent health during the spring.
@Rainyaviel The villagers from FallingFeather appreciated Nayzee but those from HollowOak judged her quick acceptance. Nayzee had a case of mild allergies during the spring.
@Rainyaviel The villagers from FallingFeather were thrilled to see Kimber and answered as many of her questions as they could. Kimber had a case of mild allergies during the spring.
@Swamp Siren All of the villagers from FallingFeather were thrilled to see Cole and that someone truly appreciated their help and the effort they went through to get here. Cole stayed in great health during the spring.
@Swamp SirenThe villagers from FallingFeather were happy to see Anastasia and answered as many of her questions as they could. Anastasia stayed in decent health during the spring.
@Luna Many in the village shared Toby's feelings of renewed hope and appreciated the work he was putting towards helping the village. Toby was out of work for a few days after getting knocked over and twisting his ankle.
@Luna Some of the villagers recognized the help Tailisen was putting forth and appreciated him, even if they were a little suspicious of the Alvia. Tailisen had a case of mild allergies during the spring.
@Luna Some of the villagers recognized the help Gwendolyn was putting forth, even if they were a little suspicious of the Alvia she helped and judged her a tiny bit. Gwendolyn had a mild case of allergies during the spring.
@Luna The villagers from FallingFeather appreciated Nayali but those from HollowOak judged her quick acceptance. Nayali stayed in decent health during the spring.
@Luna The villagers from FallingFeather appreciated Aefyir but those from HollowOak judged her quick acceptance just a bit. Aefyir had a very mild case of allergies during the spring.
@LunaThe villagers from both villages appreciated Tyler's jokes and positive attitude. (Tyler's dot in social means 1-10 is auto success!) Tyler stayed in good health during the spring.
@Revel The villagers from FallingFeather were thrilled to see Osha and reassured her their help came at no cost, though they would love for her to visit. Osha had a bad case of allergies curing the spring.
@Revel Nearly all of the villagers from both villages were happy to see Nari and thankful for her help. Many in HollowOak shared her suspicions and were eager to discuss it with her. Nari stayed in fantastic health during the spring.
@Revel The villagers from FallingFeather were happy to see Elton and reassured him their help came at no cost, though they would love to trade some of their own goods for his jewellery. Elton stayed in good health during the spring.
@ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ Most of the villagers from both villages were happy to see Tatyana and thankful for her help. Tatyana had a mild case of allergies during the spring.
@ZakiaxMany in the village agreed with and respected Zak's neutral stance on the magic. Zakiax caught a bad cold during the spring that kept in the care ward for a week.
@DBPyrat The villagers from FallingFeather were happy to see Gunnar and chat with him about old times. (Gunnar's dot in social means 1-10 is auto success) Gunnar had bad allergies during the spring.
Year 4 - Second Prompt
As spring turned into summer, those who had moved villages went back to FallingFeather, leaving HollowOak feeling empty once more. Among all of the supplies and goods brought over from FallingFeather were various books and scrolls. The Alvia scholars had poured over them for years and thought they might be of use to HollowOak’s quest for answers about the magic. Many of the texts contained pictures and descriptions of the Alvia and Homia being friends under the Sera, the beings of light, during the war that broke the world. One of the scrolls mentioned a pool of fire far to the east of FallingFeather, in the foothills of the province of… the name couldn’t quite be made out but it wasn’t Homia or Aliva, that was for sure. There was much discussion over whether or not the village should send a group like before to try and find this fire pool. Does your character:
robbedragon — 01/30/2024 11:20 PM
Shulbari hated magic and he hated the Alvia but, he wasn't stupid enough to believe curiosity wouldn't win out in the end. He was one of the first to volunteer to go forth and seek out this fire magic but his reason was far from noble. He wanted to find it and destroy it or sabotage it so nobody could ever use it and cause more calamities.
DBPyrat — 01/30/2024 11:21 PM
Fire magic! Now that was an exciting thought. Gunnar spent as much time s he could spare studying the information the Alvia provided.
robbedragon — 01/30/2024 11:22 PM
Cochran wasn't a huge fan of leaving the village on some grand adventure to seek out magic but, he also wasn't foolish enough to think he was safer sticking around town. Part of him wanted to go and be a part of something but, knowing his luck, he'd only be a danger to himself or the others if he did.
robbedragon — 01/30/2024 11:24 PM
Raja could see his charm had worn off and he decided to do something that went completely against his nature. He was going to go out on an adventure and seek out the fire magic to help bring balance back to the world. At the very least, he could keep an eye on Shulbari who more than likely wasn't volunteering for altruistic reasons. He knew Shulbari had to be up to something and maybe he could stop the big lug from doing something stupid and dangerous.
Rainyaviel — 01/31/2024 12:17 AM
Quinn wasn't sure that they should be messing with fire magic, fire alone was dangerous enough. Despite her unease she could still remember the dream they had all shared years ago, just before the water magic was rediscovered and she felt that perhaps it was their duty to at least investigate? Of couse by 'their' she definitely meant anyone but her. No, she'd stick it out here in HollowOak and attend to her regular duties.
Rainyaviel — 01/31/2024 12:26 AM
Fire magic?! Heck yes Nayzee was interested! Not only because of the shared dream... or had it been a prophecy? But also because if there were other types of magic out there she wanted to know if she could wield them too. Nayzee spent much of her time pestering the scholars when they were having their meals about the magic and what they thought everything might mean. Could someone theoretically wield multiple magics? If so, would they cancel out or amplify each other? The woman was among the first to suggest that they go search for the pool of fire and did her best to keep her enthusiasm under control lest she raise suspicions among her fellow villagers once again.
Rainyaviel — 01/31/2024 12:28 AM
Kimber wasn't sure what to make of all the new documents. The Alvia visitors had all seemed kind enough but their records didn't match up with those that she had been studying for years and it was enough to raise suspicion and concern for the scholar. If the Homia and Alvia had been allies how did their records end up so drastically different from eachother? Something wasn't adding up and Kimber was determined to get to the bottom of it.
ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ — 01/31/2024 1:08 AM
“It makes sense to learn as much as we can about magic so we do not misuse it or cause more problems to the people. Learning to use it properly will help us maintain a balance.” (The magical balance that we are good at mis-aligning.) That last part is thought and not said. Tatyana knows that people try their best but without complete knowledge, no balance can be attempted or maintained. “So who ELSE is going?” Of course she’s going. Someone’s got to manage the horses.
Swamp Siren — 01/31/2024 7:57 AM
How could they even think of going and looking for this pool? They were just recovering from a horrible year. Sure, they had supplies now thanks to the old members returning. And it did come from falling feather. But as Anastasia once said, "Fire bad."
Swamp Siren — 01/31/2024 8:01 AM
Oh how much better would the bitter cold would have been if they had fire magic. Anastasia was now open to the possibility that magic could be helpful if used for good. Osha had been a wonderful person and water magic helped with the crops. She was sad to see the others leave but knew that it wasn't for ever. They would visit. And maybe she could visit them.
Luna — 01/31/2024 9:58 AM
Toby wasn't sure. While he wanted to at least treat the Alvia with basic respect like he would to any human being, he couldn't really deny the fact that HallowOak just faced a series of disasters and while the help was a relief, how long would it last? And would this keep happening if they went and found fire, of all elements? Water, while also still dangerous....at least didn't hurt as much as a burn. Toby just didn't know and with his bum ankle, he wasn't able to do much. Instead he tried to stay with the others and offer familial support.
Luna — 01/31/2024 10:00 AM
Tailisen, now being an Alvia, felt a little more inclined to learn, but still fire? Fire burned. Though, with water magic now, perhaps he'd stand a chance? You know what, of course he stood a chance! SOmeone had to go, heck, he'd volunteer. "Fuck yeah, lets do this! When do I leave?!" he exlcaimed loudly, not really caring if he got looks this time. Why keep standing around waiting?
Luna — 01/31/2024 10:03 AM
Gwen frowned. She wasn't sure she liked how the glances she got from helping the Alvia made her feel, but she also couldn't deny they HAD just literally....brought help? Also the shared dream mentioned balance. That could relate to either alvia and homni or fire and magic. Maybe it was for the best someone go? When the loud mouthed Tailisen volunteered, she stiffled a laugh. He'd be a perfect one to send...... not that she wanted him dead or anything.... "Why not let him go?" she asked, then shrugged. At least for now, she could tend to others, with a mask of course. Man allergies were killer.
Luna — 01/31/2024 10:04 AM
Nayali didn't mind the glances. She often got those on her own. "The stars spoke of balance my friends!" she called out, arms out to her fellow villagers. "Why not embrace this chance to bring exactly that?" she asked, with a warm and genuine smile. "We have proven we are stronger than our tribulations! I forsee many good things coming for us if we open our minds and heed the call of the heavens."
Luna — 01/31/2024 10:06 AM
Aefyir sighed, worry troubling her again. She listened to the talk about the village but something about fire scared her more than water. Perhaps it was its simple sheer destructiveness and how quickly it could do so. Water was fine, it could be controlled, to an extent. But fire? "I think I'd prefer to remain here... " she said softly to herself, sighing as she counted her stock of cloths and silk. Clearly Alvia should go, since they had water magic. Leave the poor magicless homni alone already...
Luna — 01/31/2024 10:08 AM
Tyler was still hopeful and he was still offering humor whereever he saw fallen faces. He overheard some others talking about accepting what was coming and volunteering themselves to go. That very small selfish side of him was happy it wasn't him, but he couldn't deny the fact that maybe this would help get closer to that balance thing the dream talked about. Between trying to keep morals high, Tyler was reading up on magic in his spare time, if anything, to simply try and understand or to help others understand it better.
Zakiax — 01/31/2024 5:50 PM
Zak was still unsure about magic in general, and adding more elements to the possible pool of magic could get out of hand. Still he was curious about the magic and maybe if he learned more his skepticism would go away.
Revel — 02/03/2024 12:55 PM
Osha was saddened by how empty their home seemed, but there was work to be done still, supplies to be stored, homes to rebuild still, despite the aid. She'd seen the books and scrolls, and while she was curious, she didn't try and touch any of them, she did suggest they be stored in a high place though. A Pool of FIRE? was curious, was this her twin? even if it wasn't, she wanted to go, it could reveal the past she couldn't remember still.
Revel — 02/03/2024 12:56 PM
Nari was very curious about the books and scrolls, she barely remembered the dream she'd had that led to finding Osha until she was reminded about the whole balance thing. Again she was conflicted, Osha had done her best to help and water was useful, helpful, what could a fire being do to benefit everyone, the way Osha had, the way the Alvia had.... they could light fires without help. She was unsure about going to investigate. She knew one thing for certain, dream or not, she was absolutely NOT going...
Revel — 02/03/2024 12:56 PM
Elton wasn't a big reader but the gossip around the village after the scrolls and books were investigated quickly spread and he was somewhat optimistic, Osha and the Alvia had been such a help during the problems they'd had, sure he'd had his misgivings but this whole.. balance thing, that and Osha finding potential family, couldn't be a bad thing. He wasn't going to go, he'd be useless with his limited hearing, but he would support anyone who did.
How that played out:
@DBPyrat Gunnar didn't have much time for studying but when he did, he learned of a large obelisk that supposedly stood at the center of the fire pool. How interesting. Gunnar was so caught up in thoughts of fire magic he wasn't paying attention to his forge and ended up with some nasty burns.
@robbedragon With all the speaking out against magic, most of the village was very suspicious of Shulbari volunteering to seek out more. Shulbari stayed in great health during the summer.
@robbedragon Many in the village shared Cochran's feels of indecisiveness on whether to go or stay. Some villagers encouraged him to go, others asked him to stay. Cochran tripped and lightly sprained his wrist trying to catch himself during the summer.
@robbedragon With how often Raja ended up in the Care Ward, many wondered if it was wise to let him out of the village for such a fools errand. Raja came down with a summer cold but it didn't last long.
@Rainyaviel Some in the village shared Quinn's feelings of hesitation and obligation. While out gathering herbs during the summer, Quinn stumbled upon a yellow jacket nest and was stung a few times.
@Rainyaviel Many in the village felt that if anyone would be successful on this silly errand it would be Nayzee. Yet many didn't want their favorite cook to leave. Someone bumped into Nayzee while she was grabbing something from the oven causing her to burn her arm.
@Rainyaviel After weeks of reading, the only thing Kimber discovered was that both Homia and Alvia lore was the same before the Great War or War That Broke The World and vastly different during and after the war. (I'm making a GM ruling here: because Kimber's actions were way more of a mental nature than social, I'm changing the roll and it's results to a Mental roll instead of a Social one. Due to Kimber's mental dot 1-20 is an automatic success.) Kimber caught a bad case the summer cold that was going around.
@ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ Many in the village agreed that Tatyana was more than prepared for the crazy task of traveling so far from home but many would miss Yana's optimism. Tatyana had a mild cold during the summer.
@Swamp Siren Some of the elders still agreed with Cole and what Ana had once said, fire bad, but it was clear to see that many in the village were anxious to find the magic. Cole caught a mild case of the summer cold.
@Swamp Siren Many in the village were starting to share the same hopeful view as Anastasia. Anastasia tripped while out scouting one day and fell on a poison ivy vine causing her to have a terrible rash for over a week.
@Luna Many of the elders agreed with Toby's caution on seeking out the fire magic. Most of the village hoped that Toby would stay in HollowOak if a traveling party was formed as they appreciated all of the help he gave. Toby had a mild case of the summer cold that had been going around.
@Luna Many in the village felt that if anyone would be successful on this silly errand it would be Tailisen. Yet many didn't want their favorite leather worker to leave. Tailisen stayed in good health during the summer.
@Luna Some in the village agreed with Gwendolyn that someone should go but the discussion over who raged on and Gwendolyn went unheard. Gwendolyn stayed in decent health during the summer.
@Luna Many of the villagers weren't sure what exactly it was Nayali was going on about but a few agreed with her optimism. Nayali caught a mild case of the summer cold.
@Luna Many in the village shared Aefyir's worry about the fire magic but also her resign that someone should go, and it should probably be the ones with magic already. (Aefyir's dot in social means 1-10 is auto success) Aefyir caught a bad case of the summer cold that was going around.
@LunaOnly a few in the village seemed to be responding to Tyler's humor and charm, most seemed nervous or ready to leave. Tyler stayed in great health during the summer.
@Zakiax Many in the village shared Zak's caution and curiosity. Though many thought Zak very capable of going out on the ridiculous mission, some still encouraged him to stay. Zak caught a mild case of the summer cold.
@Revel Many agreed that Osha would be a great candidate to go but most were afraid that if she left and found family, she might not come back. Osha stayed in good health during the summer.
@Revel Many in the village encouraged Nari to join the expedition since she had helped find Osha and release water magic and ignored her protests. Nari ended up catching a light cold from one of her patients during the summer.
@Revel Many in the village recognized the effort Elton was putting into helping prepare for the expedition and greatly appreciated him. Elton stayed in good health during the summer.
Year 4 - Third Prompt
After much discussion it was decided that a group of villagers, larger than the last, should go in search of the fire magic and Osha’s twin, starting with finding the fire pool. The group was scheduled to leave late in the spring. Some villagers had volunteered to go on the expedition while others absolutely refused. Tensions were high during the harvest between those leaving and those staying. Rumors were floating around of having fights at The Pit to settle some of the accusations that had been thrown around. There was already so few left in the village, was it really wise to send more villagers out? Would there be enough villagers left to tend the fields? And to travel such a far distance.... What happens when supplies run low? Even with the goods and rations brought over from FallingFeather, the village didn't have much, if anything, to spare. Does your character:
Still unsure of magic, but since it really wasn't going away Zak figured he should go on the expedition to learn more. Maybe there would be clues along the way to where ever this fire pool maybe. With the subject of food and supplies Zak was confidant that his skills as a hunter could help them provide along the journey.
Swamp Siren — 01/31/2024 11:53 PM
Going now was a bad idea. With so little to spare Cole knew this will be a problem. They were already waiting, why not wait just a little longer.
Swamp Siren — 01/31/2024 11:56 PM
She was going. Anastasia would help find the new magic no matter water. She could scout ahead .... and avoid poison ivy...... to help the team stay out of trouble.
robbedragon — 01/31/2024 11:56 PM
Shulbari was going on this expedition one way or another. If they weren't going to include him as a normal part, he'd just follow after them. After all, they need muscle and that's what he was. If something were to happen to cause them to never find the magic, that would just be a happy coincidence in his mind.
robbedragon — 02/01/2024 12:04 AM
Cochran wasn't sure how to feel about this expedition and with it looming ever closer, he decided to toss a coin and see whether he should go or not. "Heads..." He muttered as soon as the thin piece of metal left the tip of his thumb and began its flipping ascent into the air. As it was coming down, he snatched for it and missed, sending it spiraling through the air and into the back of a labor guild worker's head. Cochran couldn't really blame the guy when he came to since when he turned around, Cochran was still in a position with his hand pushed forward. Sitting on his chest was the coin with heads up. "Yeah, probably for the best...." he muttered, rubbing his cheek. "I'll go pack."
robbedragon — 02/01/2024 12:08 AM
There was no way Raja was passing up the opportunity to take part in this expedition. He'd packed his bags well in advance and prepared for the journey. He knew it would be hard and perilous but he was determined to see this through and release all the magic back into the world. First, he'd need to find someone to help him with his luggage. Maybe he'd over packed but surely they were taking a cart or a carriage and one never knew what outfit was needed for the occasion.
Rainyaviel — 02/01/2024 1:31 AM
Quinn was not amused by the amount of 'accidents' happening in the village. Did they think she was stupid? Many of them were obviously from fights amongst themselves and the herbalist knew it would just get worse as tensions rose. Still, she diligently performed her duties with only some stern words and warnings to her patients that she felt needed to receive them. As planning began for the expedition in the spring the healer started propagating additional herbs in hopes she would have enough to send with the group even if she stayed behind. Surely at least one healer would go with them, all she needed to do was make sure they were well stocked. While she wasn't sure how she felt about the idea of fire magic she wouldn't deny that the Alvia had been helpful so far and if some of the villagers wanted to pursue the fire pool and Osha's twin she knew there would be no stopping them.
Rainyaviel — 02/01/2024 1:38 AM
Whether for better or worse Nayzee was intrigued by the idea of fire magic. Having been one of the few in HollowOak to awaken her latent Alvia blood left her in a bit of a unique situation and she couldn't help but wonder if the fire magic would be similar. Regardless of the risk, she knew that she needed to go since she had been involved in the craziness surrounding Osha. Besides, with her water magic she felt a little more qualified to go on this expedition than some of the others in the village. Water douses fire, doesn't it?
Rainyaviel — 02/01/2024 1:43 AM
Kimber's research led to more and more questions and she began to form a theory that the different accounts of history might have something to do with tampering by the Deavonis. She didn't have enough information to support her belief though, so she kept quiet. Instead she focused on looking up any information she could that might help the expedition team make it to the fire pool and back safely. She may not be thrilled about the magic but she was self aware enough to realize that it was more her fear of the unknown than of the magic itself that was giving her pause.

Tatyana was for once, on the neutral side. She believed that people should go if they wanted, of course, but if they had a field to tend they should stay. Being a stable hand, she did not have a field to tend! So it made sense that she should go. Anyone who would try to stop her, what would they do, tie her up? Don’t make her fight. No one wants to see a fight. Let them leave in peace, and come back with the new knowledge and the help of the magic, in peace!
Luna — 02/01/2024 10:23 AM
Tailisen was so going on this expedition and he was going to punch anyone who tried to stop him.Well not really, but that's kinda how he felt. Except he really didn't want to hurt anyone. HallowOak was his home and he wanted to keep it safe, no matter what it took. So if it meant he went to face danger instead of them, then by golly, he was doin it!
Luna — 02/01/2024 10:25 AM
Toby was still worried, but relieved he wasn't being forced to go. He'd prefer to stay home and help out his friends and family, both off and on the farm. He did offer small supply packs of canned goods that could be used to eat on travels but past that.... the nerves seemed to be getting to him and he found himself wishing others well and retiring early to go home and be with his loved ones.
Luna — 02/01/2024 10:27 AM
Even though Gwen was in good health, she felt tired. She had been helping take care of toehrs that she nearly forgot to take care of herself and she felt the mental stress weighing on her. Mostly, she was afraid that the rescue group wouldn't come back and she bit her lips as those who volunteered lined up to prepare and go. She wished them safe travels but couldn't hide the doubt she had.
Luna — 02/01/2024 10:30 AM
Nayali still remained how she was. Claiming the dream was a sign and that they should do as it instructed. Though it was probably hard for others to figure out if she was actually being positive or not as when she caught her cold, she holed herself up in her home, looking through her telescope and charting down stars and other celestial movements, hoping to find another sign, good or bad.
Luna — 02/01/2024 10:32 AM
Aefyr, mostly laid up in bed from the cold, worried about a traveling group. While she wanted to be hopeful for change, she wasn't sure what they would find or if they would come back and that caused her even more worry which made it slower for her to rest and heal. Despite this, she did her best to sew up quick but efficient articles such as gloves and pouches to help carry supplies for those leaving.
Luna — 02/01/2024 10:33 AM
Seeing that his attempts at bringing up moral wasn't quite working, Tyler too started to drop a little. He wasn't quite feeling as anxious as others and still had hope but his efforts did seem to dwindle. Things werent getting ebtter on their own, and fighting at the pits only caused more injury. As a group gathered to go ont he expedition, Tyler agreed with the idea. While he didn't want to go himself, he had to admit that something had to eb done.
DBPyrat — 02/01/2024 5:39 PM
Gunnar was quick to volunteer. As soon as he heard about the fire magic he began to think of ways it could help him in his work, and as time passed he began to hunger for it. The promise of this fire magic had lit a proverbial flame within him, and he would see this through or die trying.
Revel — 02/04/2024 7:16 PM
Osha understood the villagers misgivings, despite her reassurances, it didn't seem like she got through, others would go, she would stay in the village. She wanted to be the first to greet her twin, but she had to bow to the judgement of the villagers, plus, they still might need her help.
Revel — 02/04/2024 7:16 PM
Nari sighed, of course she would be volunteered by the village, she and the others had helped find Osha, and had done a decent job of it she supposed, though it raised more questions than answers.... especialy as Osha had no memories of her family. She still thought fire was dangerous but maybe... it could be helpful.. maybe this fire elamel would be nice like Osha so, despite her misgivings and personal fears, she volunteered to go along, having a healer along the journey wasn't a bad idea after all.
Revel — 02/04/2024 7:16 PM
Elton felt pretty good, getting more involved in the villages activities, guess it took a disaster or two to get him out of his little hole he'd made for himself. While he still focused on his jewlerry business, he helped more and socialosed more with other villagers, he hoped the expedition would go well.
How that worked out:
@Zakiax Though many thought of Zak as a capable hunter, most of the village still worried about the expedition having enough supplies to last the entire journey. Zak stayed in decent health during the fall.
@Swamp Siren Nearly everyone in the village agreed with Cole that it would be best to wait, at least until the spring, instead of going now. Cole had bad seasonal allergies during the fall.
@Swamp Siren Though many thought of Anastasia as a capable scout, most of the village still worried about the expedition getting lost in the new territories. Anastasia stayed in great health during the fall.
@robbedragon Nearly everyone in the village agreed that Shulbari was the best candidate for being the muscle of the group and should go, even if they were suspicious of his motives. Shulbari stayed in fantastic health during the fall.
@robbedragon Though many thought Cochran capable of fending for himself, most of the village still worried about the expedition running out of supplies and getting lost. Cochran stayed in great health during the fall.
@robbedragon Many agreed that Raja would be a good fit for the expedition if it wasn't for all those clothes. A few villagers tried to talk him out of bringing a few cases. Raja stayed in good health during the fall.
@Rainyaviel Many members of the Aid Guild were impressed with Quinn's forethought to start gathering herbs for the expedition now instead of in the spring when they leave. Many in the village appreciated Quinn's work. Quinn stayed in great health during the fall.
@Rainyaviel Though many thought of Nayzee as a capable magic user, most of the village still worried about the expedition running out of supplies and getting lost. Nayzee stayed in good health during the fall.
@RainyavielDuring her studies Kimber found a cryptic piece of text she thought might be helpful to those leaving on the expedition. It read: "Fire blazes (or was it burns? Hard to tell with text this old...) at the Water's end." Kimber had bad seasonal allergies during the fall.
@ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ Though many thought Tatyana capable of fending for themselves, most of the village still worried about the expedition running out of supplies and getting lost. Tatyana tripped over some supplies in the stables and sprained her ankle pretty bad during the fall.
@Luna Nearly everyone in the village agreed that Tailisen was a great candidate for the group and should absolutely go, and not just because they were concerned about getting punched if they said otherwise. (Tailisen's dot in social means 1-10 is auto success) Tailisen stayed in fantastic health during the fall.
@Luna Though many appreciated the supplies Toby offered, most of the village still worried about the expedition running out of supplies and getting lost. Toby had severe seasonal allergies during the fall.
@Luna Nearly everyone in the village shared Gwen's fear of the expedition team not returning. Those who were staying in the village were happy that Gwendolyn had chosen to stay. Gwen stayed in great health during the fall.
@Luna While stargazing one night, Nayali noticed that at least one star seemed to be missing from the sky. A week later the star reappeared but a different one seemed to have now vanished. Nayali stayed in decent health during the fall.
@Luna Those leaving on the expedition greatly appreciated the effort Aefyir put into helping them prepare. Those staying behind were glad that Aefyir had decided to stay. Aefyir stayed in decent health during the fall.
@Luna Most of the village agreed with Tyler that something had to be done. Those staying behind were glad that Tyler had decided to stay. Tyler had bad seasonal allergies during the fall.
@DBPyrat Many in the village agreed that Gunnar was a great candidate for the group and should absolutely go, even if it would cost them their blacksmith. Gunnar had mild allergies during the fall.
@Revel Many in the village felt bad for keeping Osha from finding her family and urged her to join the expedition team. If they really are going to go find her fire twin, they might need her magic. Osha stayed in good health during the fall.
@Revel Though many thought Nari should go and that she was capable of handling herself, most were still worried about the expedition running out of supplies or getting lost. Nari stayed in fantastic health during the fall.
@Revel Many of those who were leaving on the expedition thanked Elton for his help. A few even bought a few pieces of jewelry as trinkets to remember the village while they were away. Elton had seasonal allergies during the fall.
Year 4 - Final Prompt
It was early winter when a mysterious figure appeared at the stone bridge that led into HollowOak village. Many of the Homia lore books were filled with descriptions of such monsters; a being with dark scaled skin, pointed ears, and a long tail. It was Dalvis! Supposedly they were allied with the beings of shadow, the Deav, created from their darkness in order to stalk the night, though the Dalvis standing before the village said otherwise. For being a monster, this one seems pretty intelligent and friendly enough. The Dalvis went by the name of Alder and it seemed she needed shelter. Should the village take her in? Does your character:
"Oh, hell no!" Shulbari snapped and stomped forward, slamming his foot down. "We got enough freaks and problems without one of you monsters. You can fuck right off." he growled. When the hooded figure didn't budge, Shulbari's left eye twitched. "I said FUCK OFF!" he snarled and pulled back for a punch. He lashed out with all his strength but, instead of connecting with the stranger's scaled skin, he found nothing but air. At the last second, Alder dropped to the ground and slammed her leg up into his gut with enough force to knock the air from his lungs and send him toppling to the ground in the fetal position, whimpering weakly. Alder climbed back to her feet, looked him over and scoffed, "You should learn some manners... ...and to think you consider me the uncivilized one."
robbedragon — 02/01/2024 8:40 PM
Cochran wasn't sure what to believe at first but, after witnessing this person basically put Shulbari down in a single blow, he was kind of impressed. "Hey, anyone that can kick Shulbari's ass in a fight gets my vote for staying." he shrugged. "He's strong but thick-headed. We need someone that can shut him up once in a while."
robbedragon — 02/01/2024 8:43 PM
"Oh, thank god someone finally put that pigheaded jerk in his place!" Raja exclaimed as he rushed over to greet Alder. "Hi, I'm Raja. That puddle of whimpers is Shulbari. He will warm up to you, I think...." he said as way of introduction. "Can I take your..." he stopped and looked at the tattered cloak she was wearing. "Sweetheart, we need to get you something better to cover with. That is simply atrocious. Come, I have fabric and an eye for design, darling."
Swamp Siren — 02/01/2024 8:47 PM
Watching shulbari be defeated Cole threw his hands up. "No way! If she can do that to Shulbari who can say she won't attack the rest of us!"
Swamp Siren — 02/01/2024 8:51 PM
Anastasia didn't know what to think. She was in need. She seemed nice enough. Till she knocked Shulbari out. . But he asked for it attacking her first...... Ana wanted to see what this Alder was going to do.
Rainyaviel — 02/01/2024 9:37 PM
Quinn was shocked to see the Dalvis standing on the bridge. She'd come running over after hearing some commotion to find Shulbari on the ground and a woman with a tail standing over him. First water magic, then rumors of fire magic, and now some sort of half-human, half-reptilian creature? If she didn't know better the herbalist would think she'd eaten something hallucinogenic. Still, to see Shulbari put in his place gave her a small bit of joy that she did her best to hide as she went to check on the man, "What is going on out here?" she asked while looking him over.
Rainyaviel — 02/01/2024 9:51 PM
Nayzee wasn't one to mess around with anything related to the Deavonis but she had to admit the stranger at their gates was intriguing. She wasn't sure about letting the woman have free roam of HollowOak but surely it wouldn't hurt to invite her in and hear what she had to say? After all, who knew where she came from and what she had experienced? Maybe she could help them prepare for the upcoming expedition?
Rainyaviel — 02/01/2024 9:57 PM
Kimber was delighted to have another new source of information and was quick to offer to be an 'escort' for the woman and ensure she didn't get into trouble if she was allowed to stay. If only Alder knew just how many questions that would entail she might decide against seeking refuge in HollowOak, too bad for her, the scholar had an excellent poker face when she needed to.
DBPyrat — 02/02/2024 7:42 PM
Gunnar got a good chuckle at Shulbari's expense, he slways thought that hothead needed to be brought down a peg. Outside of her entertaining introduction to the townsfolk he didn't think too much about the newcomer. He never studied enough history to worry about any philosophical ramifications of presence here meant. As long as she kept the peace he was unconcerned.
Luna — 02/02/2024 7:56 PM
At this point, Tailisen had cast all caution to the wind and was almost literal balls to the wall. "Sure, why not." he shrugged, eyeing the other's tail and unique ness. "Snake people. Why not? Lets get everyone out helping!" he said enthusiastically.
Luna — 02/02/2024 11:26 PM
Snakes scared Toby. They always caused problems for the livestock and even though this was a person.... he wasn't sure. He erred on the side of caution and he hung back with the others who also were unsure.
Luna — 02/03/2024 1:08 PM
Gwen had no idea about snake people...or Dalvis as they were called. She had no idae how to heal one and if it was evne the same.... but they seemed friendly enough. Still, worry tugged at her...but so did fascination. maybe she could learn about the dalvis? Maybe they all could?
Luna — 02/03/2024 11:36 PM
Innocent until proven guilty - though Nayali hadn't ever thought, saw or read that a snake person would be in the village. But perhaps maybe they could help, or new things others didn't? Only time, and possibly the stars, could tell. Or so Nayali thought.
Luna — 02/03/2024 11:40 PM
Tyler, for all his attempts at trying to be positive, wasn't sure about a snake person. A Dalvis? Tyler stood back, half laughing. "Ah... we sure they come in peace?"
Luna — 02/03/2024 11:41 PM
Aefyir frowned, staying in the back. She seemed to echo others, unsure if this new comer brought peace or otherwise. Weren't they looking for fire? Why was this person showing up now?
ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ — 02/04/2024 5:34 AM
Guys, this is a Dalvis! As a traveler, she can teach us about the world that she's seen! And her people. And what she knows about magic! As long as she does nothing wrong, what is the problem? Hosting her --somewhere-- is the rule of hospitality! Guys? Still not letting her inside the village? Okay... How about the stables? She can be Tatyana's responsibility.
Zakiax — 02/04/2024 7:00 PM
Zak was a bit worried, it seemed that something new troublesome seemed to pop up with each turn of the season. The past few years had been rough especially with the reappearance and conflict with the Alvia. First the talk of fire magic, now a creature called a Dalvis has shown up, and he just saw of it as more trouble.
Revel — 02/04/2024 8:40 PM
Osha was grateful for the villagers and as much as she wanted to meet her family, she also had the family she'd made among the villagers. She wasn't sure whether to go or now, and would probably remain undecided until it was time for an expidition to actually leave. When the strange 'monster' showed up at the village, Osha was cautious, though she was careful to call the creature by her name of Alder. She offered the Dalvis a place to stay, near the edge of the village, with her, if it was decided she should stay, Surely if the creature had bad intentions, she wouldn't have just shown herself to everyone... right?
Revel — 02/04/2024 8:41 PM
Nari was still unsure, but she made preparations for the upcoming expidition anyway, She'd been of some use last time anyway. She'd make her mind up when the time came. She was nearby when the creature appeared at the stone bridge, she'd frozen in place before scurrying back to the village. However upon finding out it had a name, Alder and was intelligent and asking for help, she was less adverse to the Dalvis' presence, was she hurt? did she need healing? could be an opportunity to learn about new anatomy perhaps.
Revel — 02/04/2024 8:41 PM
Elton was pleased at his sales, he gave some freebies to those leaving too. All was happy and well until the monster appeared.... Oh hell no.... NOPE ... this was a MONSTER ... it shouldn't be allowed in the village.. magic weilders were one thing but just look at the thing... it was horrible... turn it away... prefereably with pitchforks....
How that worked out:
@robbedragon Though many in the village were glad to have such a fierce protector, most of them enjoyed watching Shulbari get put in his place. Many of the Labor Guild went to check on him. Shulbari was in the Care Ward for at least a day and had a nasty bruise for some time after.
@robbedragon Though many in the village enjoyed watching Shulbari get knocked down, not everyone agreed that having a stranger that's so strong in the village was a good thing. Cochran stayed in decent health during the winter.
@robbedragon Many were quick to judge Raja for running up to a stranger who just demonstrated such strength and inviting them in for new clothes. Raja had a mild cold during the winter.
@Swamp Siren Nearly all of the village initially agreed with Cole and feared the strength of the newcomer. Most of the village warmed up to the Dalvis by the end of winter. Cole caught a mild cold during the winter.
@Swamp Siren Many in the village were initially just as uncertain as Anastasia about this newcomer and like Anastasia, curiosity won out in the end. Anastasia stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Rainyaviel The Dalvis wasn't able to get much out before being whisked away by Raja but Nayzee did manage to hear that she was from a village called StarGlow, she had fallen off a cliff into deep rough waters, and wandered her way here just to get attacked by Shulbari. Quinn stayed in fantastic health during the winter.
@Rainyaviel Many in the village shared Nayzee's feelings of caution and curiosity. Nayzee learned that the Dalvis was a user of water magic just like the Alvia but it wasn't particularly helpful information. Nayzee stayed in good health during the winter.
@Rainyaviel The Dalvis wasn't able to get much out before being whisked away by Raja but Kimber did manage to hear that she was from a village called StarGlow, she had fallen off a cliff into deep rough waters, she was a water magic user, and wandered her way here from the south. Kimber stayed in great health during the winter.
@DBPyrat Though many didn't agree with him at first, eventually most of the village came around to see Gunnar's point of view and as long as the newcomer was peaceful then there was no need for concern. Gunnar caught the flu during the winter.
@Luna Though many didn't agree with his opinion at first, eventually most in the village came around and let the Dalvis stay. (Due to Tailisen's social dot 1-10 is auto success) Tailisen stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Luna Many in the village shared Toby's feeling of caution and kept an eye on the newcomer from a safe distance. Toby stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Luna Many in the village shared Gwendolyn's curiosity for the stranger, though most were more cautious than anything else. Gwen stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Luna Though many didn't agree with Nayali's opinion at first, eventually most in the village came around and let the Dalvis stay. Nayali caught the flu during the winter.
@Luna Many in the village shared Tyler's feeling of caution but eventually most in the village came around and let the Dalvis stay. Tyler caught a bad cold during the winter.
@Luna Many in the village shared Aefyir's feeling of caution but eventually most in the village came around and let the Dalvis stay. The Dalvis were water magic users just like the Alvia, maybe she could help if the fire got out of hand. Aefyir caught a bad case of the flu that had her in the Care Ward for over a week.
@ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ Though many didn't agree with Tatyana's opinion or optimism at first, eventually most in the village came around and let the Dalvis stay. Tatyana stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Zakiax Many in the village shared Zak's feeling of unease but eventually most in the village came around and let the Dalvis stay. Zak stayed in fantastic health during the winter.
@Revel Many in the village shared Osha's caution but eventually curiosity won out and Alder was allowed to stay. Osha stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Revel Though not everyone shared Nari's opinion at first, they eventually came around and allowed Alder to stay. Nari noticed some light bruising and small cuts similar to those the scouts sometimes have. (Nari's dot in social means 1-10 are auto success) Nari stayed in decent health during the winter.
@Revel Many in the village shared Elton's feelings about the Dalvis at first, but eventually the village decided to let her stay. (Elton's dot in social means 1-10 are auto success) Elton caught a bad cold during the winter.

- Stand on the side of the worried, the frightened, and/or superstitious? Why come now? Trying to bribe the village into letting our guard down again? Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the neutral, the unsure, and/or the skeptic? It was only natural for those who’d left to worry about their old home. Nothing nefarious going on…. Probably. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the hopeful, the excited, and/or optimistic? See, the magic helped the Alvia fare better through a tough year! More magic is needed in HollowOak to protect against all kinds of situations! Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Other. Give a sentence or few to explain.

- Stand on the side of the worried, the frightened, and/or superstitious? The Alvia lore is obviously wrong because Homia lore says that’s not what happened. Water magic is bad enough, why go searching for fire? Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the neutral, the unsure, and/or the skeptic? Why should those from HollowOak be the only ones to go? Then again, there was that shared dream that said restore balance so maybe someone should go. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the hopeful, the excited, and/or optimistic? When do we leave?! Fire magic here we come! For balance… yeah. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Other. Give a sentence or few to explain.
robbedragon — 01/30/2024 11:20 PM
- Stand on the side of the worried, the frightened, and/or superstitious? This is the calm before the storm! If we send villagers out now and have another bad year, HollowOak will be doomed! The expedition group will never get that far anyway! Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the neutral, the unsure, and/or the skeptic? Releasing the magic might make things worse but it might make things better. Things aren't getting better on their own so let those who want to leave, leave. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the hopeful, the excited, and/or optimistic? This expedition is happening, and I will fight anyone who tries to stop me. The magic will be found and balance will be restored. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Other. Give a sentence or few to explain.
ᙏᙓᒪOᙏᗩᖇ — 02/01/2024 2:01 AM

- Stand on the side of the worried, the frightened, and/or superstitious? Oh absolutely not! No monsters inside the village walls! Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the neutral, the unsure, and/or the skeptic? Innocent until proven guilty. She hasn’t done anything wrong and is in need, it would be wrong to turn her away. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Stand on the side of the hopeful, the excited, and/or optimistic? This could be a great opportunity to learn about more of the world! Let her stay and let’s see what she’s got to say. Give a sentence or few to explain.
- Other. Give a sentence or few to explain.
