Decision: B.) Investigate the ground

Optional RP:

Spinel had decided to join them on the journey, she was a bit concerned for the missing little ones. Hoping to find them safe and well. When they came upon the wreckage Spinel took to the ground looking for clues. A few others had started to look at the caravans themselve and the forest edge. Soshe took to the last spot looking for clues, maybe she could figure out what direction the drag marks were going, or maybe get a better idea of what had happened here by reading the clues in the dirt.

(Spinel is open for interactions as well)

Decision: B.) Investigate the ground.

Optional RP:
With Meehan's nerves already wound as tight as they felt they could go, he let the silence continue to permeate on the walk over for fear of making himself that much more anxious. Ears and nose twitched at the air in a small effort to gain any further information, but mostly to shake off a little more of that nervous energy before they got to the site. Meehan wasn't a fighter and he worried what sort of help he'd be if it came down to it, being more of a scholar by trade.

He stood still at the edges of the scene. He wasn't sure what he had expected, but it was obvious it had been quite the struggle. As a paw inched to the dirt, he instinctively pulled it back to his chest before he could mar any clues. With a frown, the pastel pon ran through the best course of action to take as the others neared the caravan itself. At the scene of the struggle, perhaps it could be found who might have caused this debacle to happen, but the ground seemed the best place to find out where to head to next. Careful of the prints and drag marks, he took note of Spinel doing the same and investigated opposite to her. Divide and conquer, these porri would be found!

Decision: L.) Investigate the Caravan

Optional RP: Benibana gave a soft little squeak of worry as the wagons came into view. They had been toppled, she knew it was potentially dangerous but seeing the wreckage was different. It brought it home that something had happened. She swished her tail, before walking to the wreckage, slowly nudging through the wagons for some clue of what had happened.

Decision: B.) Investigate the ground.

Optional RP: Kelpsia moved quietly along the way not minding the silence. They knew why they were called after all. More from the white pon was really unneeded. The wreckage of the travel conveyance did make her pause for a moment. That was worrisome. Some other Porri headed to the wreckage and a few others went to the forest edge and but a few looked at the ground. Kelpsia looked at the ground with the others quickly before more clues were stepped over by the others checking things. Where were the small paw prints going? Did the drag marks look small one sized or more like taking heavy objects from the wagons to flee. She glanced at two purple pon who were looking things over as she was. She did a quick circle around the ground to make note of the markings and let the others know where the dragging and prints were most active going away from the wreckage or if they were scattered like debris in the sea. She was also looking for signs of bleeding or weapons or other harm or even things that could defend the small. “I see no signs of wounds. Do either of you?” Her face was flat looking at things as was her tone, but it often was.

Decision: C.) Investigate the forest edge.

Optional RP: Wybert headed towards the meeting spot, worried about the missing porri and starseeds. He had overheard that the pon that they were meeting was also missing a family member. He couldn't imagine how worried the pon named Shai was. He spotted a white shape up ahead and quickly moved in that direction, figuring it was Shai waiting for the group to assemble.

Reaching Shai and the rest of the group he gave them all a nod hello. It wasn't long before the rest arrived and the group was on their way. As they traveled Shai apologized and Wybert shook his head. "No need to apologize for that. It's very stressful and a scary situation, not knowing what happened to the nursery. I think everyone can forgive you for being curt or stressed out." He replied.

Once the caravans came into view the group split up to search different spots. He decided to head towards the forest edge as most were flocking towards the wagons or to investigate the various marks on the ground. It seemed two others were also heading in the direction of the forest's edge so he angled his path towards them. "Looks like we all had the same idea of checking the forest edge. I'm Wybert by the way."

"Nothing of that sort over here" Spinel replied back to Kelpsia. "All I see are a bunch of pawprints and some drag marks. " Her tail gave a bit of a cautious flick, trying not to erase the traces on the ground. The more time that passed the more nervous she became, quite worried for the little ones.

"I do hope we find them soon." she spoke worry in her voice.

Optional RP:
Dusk is very interested in trying to find and track any tiny paw prints on the ground. She is super absorbed in her task and not really paying attention to others for the moment.

Inspecting the caravans reveals the extent of the damage: all three wagons have been violently overturned, their wheels splintered, sides torn apart, and shattered wood scattered across the dirt road — whatever had stopped these caravans had done so violently.

A closer search shows that most of the food and supplies— carefully packed in sealed bags and cases —were largely untouched. Sure, there are a few nibbled corners here and there, likely from curious rodents or passing scavengers, but nothing of greater note. It's probably safe to assume that the attacker hadn't been interested in their resources.

A distressed squeak startles the group, bringing attention towards Shai and his current pawing. The limp canvas of the middle caravan shifts as Shai lifts it, revealing a small, frightened, and very owl-eyed newborn. They blink at the group, tears pooling in the corner of their eyes.

Raffle:
  • Everyone who choose Route A will be entered into a raffle for this newborn, which will be rolled in this post and the winner quoted.
  • Nym will briefly use this newborn for the CYOA, but then it is up to the new owner what they wish to do with them!
  • The winner will be ineligible to win any other porri or figments present in the story of the CYOA, but can continue to play for end-of-the-CYOA rewards (or just for AP/fun!). The player may reject the prize, which will result in a re-roll. Rejection has to be stated immediately — players cannot ask to swap their prize down the line, or return it past the round they've been won within.

Searching the surrounding area reveals a few clues: tiny pawprints leading into the forest from the caravans, a long drag mark from the first caravan, and the footprints of oversized, clawed paws — all heading in the same direction. The massive pawprints seem to appear abruptly in-front of the wagons before sharply turning to the side of the first caravan, and then into the trees. Dark fur is scattered near the collapsed entry of the leading caravan, seemingly ripped out in clumps.

Perhaps what might be as equally revealing is what isn't there: there's no evidence of blood, nor belongings scattered far from the caravans themselves.

Armed with new information, the group regathers with the others to share what they've found.

Those who choose to inspect the forest’s edge will find the foliage heavily trampled upon —tiny pawprints, a long drag mark, and oversized tracks melding together into what’s nearly a clear trail. It leads straight into the deep, dark forest, as if asking to be tread upon.

Scattered about, small clusters of smooth, circular stones rests among the distressed ground — small enough that anyone could pocket a few if they wished.

The group recollected near the caravans, where Shai had taken to trying— rather awkwardly —to soothe the now-sobbing newborn. Clearly inexperienced with children, it wasn’t until he began softly humming that the crying eased. The newborn quieted, blinking at the group with wide, owlish eyes.

“Can you talk?” Shai asked gently, carefully adjusting the child until they were wrapped in his tail. The newborn blinked again, their mouth wibbling. “I’m so sorry… you must have been so scared. Do you know what happened? Where is Mama Nui?”

At the sound of the familiar title, the child let out a distressed wail, eyes spilling with tears once more. “Mama Nui! Monster! Scary! Angry!” Their words dissolved into a heavy, hiccupping sob. “All gone! All gone!”

It took quite some time for the group to calm the now-hysterical child. Between gentle reassurances and shared clues, they eventually discovered the one pon who could soothe the newborn long enough to carry them, settled carefully atop their back, bundled in a makeshift swaddle torn from the wrecked caravans.

Drag marks. A lone child. Dark fur scattered before vanishing into the trail, large pawprints dragging alongside. The picture forming was clearer now, and far more ominous.

Shai stood at the forest’s edge, jaw tight, tail snapping anxiously behind him. He turned back to the group, eyes searching each traveler. "If you want to turn back", he said quietly, "do it now. I'm going in."

With a determined nod— perhaps more for himself than anyone else —, he gestured towards those who opted to stay, guiding everyone to make a tight formation before entering the forest.

The question is, where will you walk in the group?

Actions: Please pick 1 action and use the form below to indicate the decision.
  • A.) At the front.
  • B.) In the middle.
  • C.) At the back.
Notes:
  • Players may RP their decision, and lightly chatter in-character back and forth.
  • Take all out-of-character chatter and questions to the Discord.
  • Please ping players if a character is trying to interact with them.
  • Shai can be interacted with, just ping Nym.
  • The newborn has now be handed off to their new owner. If the owner rolled above returns the pon, we'll roll again until either someone takes the newborn, or it's returned into freebies.
  • Players who win a character can RP them in the event once posted for a cert, but stick to relevant information given within the CYOA (or DM Nym for more information!)
  • AP can be earned from RPing, but it won't net extra prizes from the CYOA itself. It is entirely optional.
  • Players can format their post however they wish, but please keep the decision header at the top and any items gathered somewhere in the post (using the correct form).
  • Do not opt to make a "fourth" action. Please stick to the ones provided.

Xer didn't even have second-guess his answer, and he quickly offered a firm nod to Shai as he stepped forward. He was here to see this through, and this talk of monsters made him worry that much more for the missing stars.
He kept pace with the front of the gathering, trusting his eyes and ears to scout ahead for any little clues they could pick up on, any little changes that might determine which way they had gone in the forest.

Optional RP: Kelspia could not agree with the purple pon more. She didn't respond but her face actually showed a different face which was a miracle in itself. it showed concern. She didn't want to voice her concern feeling as though it would put that thought into the world risking it become more true. She nodded to the purple pon and then they shared their insights with the group. it was good that a small one had been found. Monster was not a good answer though. she spoke to Shai. "Turning back would be unacceptable.." There were many who felt as she did, she was sure of that. Quickly she moved to take a point up front having looked at the paw prints she was familiar enough with them to help track. The sooner more were found the better she would feel. She was ready to pounce and attach the so thought monsters should they find any first.
