The next obstacle the group encounters is another Nauwillian weedle. This time none of them were fast enough to spot it before it left out of the trees at Pip, but Mezzo was quick to intercept it once again. The fight was not as one-sided as the previous one had been, however. This Nauwillian weedle proved more resilient to being confused, and it was faster with its tail, landing a solid sting on its psychic type opponent. The two scuffled for a minute, but it was clear that Mezzo was on the defensive.

Pip called it off, but they had to recall Mezzo to its pokeball to get it away. Unfortunately it was still suffering from the effects of the poison, and was probably going to need to recover back at base camp before it would be up for any more adventuring. They would make sure that Mezzo got a proper look over once they were back home.

In the meantime they should probably have another pokemon on dry land with them, and they didn’t want to pull Little Guy away from his fun, so they brought Frost out from his ball. The little Alolan vulpix was very excited to explore a new area and immediately started bouncing in and out of the bushes. Pip frowned, wondering if maybe they hadn’t made the right choice… there were an awful lot of pitfalls and thorn bushes around, after all.

Commotion in the river drew Pip’s attention back to Lanette and Little Guy, who it seemed had found a new friend. Pip recognized the glowing lights of a chinchou under the water, that appeared to have been startled out of its hiding place by their pokemon. They gave orders for Lanette to block off one direction and Little Guy to start herding it closer to the shore, so they could get a good throw at it. The research centre, they knew, was still looking for more chinchou.

Soon enough the team was able to corral the pokemon into shallower water, and Pip was able to get a clear shot at it. The research ball clicked almost immediately after making contact, and Little Guy happily retrieved it from the water to bring it to Pip, who traded them the ball for a treat.

It kind of felt like they were getting the hang of this pokemon catching thing! Two whole pokemon caught on a single trip?

… they were probably about to fall in another pit or something, weren’t they?

14Hey! Something grabs at your pack, trying to pull it away from you!Wild Battle3

Wild Battle
One or more aggressive pokémon attack! Roll 1-100 and determine which pokémon you've found from the area's chart; all players find the same pokémon, so only one person needs to roll. Each player is allowed to roll one of their pokémon's STR or SPEC + VIT or DEX vs the event's difficulty, if they brought a pokémon; if they fail, that pokémon loses 2 VIT. If a player succeeds, they can roll their character's DEX + their choice of ball's Catch Score vs the event's difficulty to try and catch one of the now defeated wild pokémon.

They didn’t fall in a hole, but Frost’s investigations did scare up another Nauwillian weedle! This one jumped out of one of the bushes that the Alolan vulpix had been sniffing around, and made a break for it towards a tree the reached over the water. Unfortunately that meant Pip was in their direct path, and it scampered up Pip’s leg in its attempt to get away. It burrowed into Pip’s bag just as Frost caught up to it and jumped up on his trainer in pursuit of his prey!

Pip nearly lost their footing but managed to stay standing as the Alolan vulpix dug the Nauwillian weedle out of their bag and leapt with it to the forest floor.

Pip whipped another research ball out of their pocket and waited until Frost had it pinned beneath his little paws to throw the ball. The ball rocked back and forth a few times before it clicked. For the third time that trip Pip had managed to catch another pokemon!

They had also made it a decent distance into the woods. It was starting to get later and they didn’t want to risk losing sight of Little Guy in the water as it got darker. So they figured it was probably about time to turn around. However, inspired by their success thus far, they decided to trek on for just a bit longer. It was probably the deepest in they had made it yet, and they wanted to make the most of the trip that they could.

9A thick, thorny brush blocks the way. Roll (STR or SPEC) + INS to have a pokémon clear the dangerous plants.Pokémon Danger2

Pokémon Danger
The players encounter a danger, whether terrain or pokémon based, which can or should be tackled by a pokémon instead of a human.

If the event indicates a simple danger, one at a time players may choose a pokémon to roll the indicated stats vs the event's difficulty. If they fail, that pokémon loses 1 VIT for the remainder of the Expedition. The event cannot be finished until all players have rolled at least one pokémon (if they have any available).

Eventually they come to another area where some fallen plantlife was blocking the river. This time is a tree that had fallen across. The pokemon could get past by swimming below it, but it was awkwardly located and would prevent any pokemon from carrying passengers through. So, Pip instructed Lanette in clearing it again (this time by breaking it in some strategic locations and letting the pieces float away) and decided that they were travel down the river to this point again tomorrow in order to keep exploring.
