Per Nym - False Gold is traveling right not to find valuable ingredients for medicine/potions. He has a somewhat tragic background that resulted in him changing life goals and becoming a collector of rare ingredients to aide a healer he knows. He's gruff and kind of bad at words, but doesn't want to be a dick.

I could see him wanting more "hands" on deck. He also temporarily helps acquire necessities for locations he passes by in exchange for room and board, so perhaps he helped the orphanage Frostnip Jack is at, bumps into the kid, and the kid finds out about his travels by a worker. If Frostnip likes the idea of travel, False Gold could adopt them to help with his job / slowly become Protective Dad.

My reply - False Gold will have to deal with Jack being a snot and brat, probably majority of the time, but I can see him slowly opening up to False Gold over time and being almost a tsundere towards him. Or just being a pain in the butt towards False Gold forever and make the Protective Dad just reject taking in this kid at times.
