Whether you're a Clan cat, a loner or even a kittypet, no cat is safe from death. While Cats of the Sun have removed the automatic death from the shop as of 2023, death is still a feature that can be accessed by your cat. Worry not: your cat can only die if you explicitly say so! The shop staff will NEVER kill your cat without permission. The only exception to this statement is in event that you own a Clan leader; you can read along for more information about this below.
Death Raffles run every three months, for a total of four times a year. However many cats enter to participate into a Death Raffle will determine how many cats are rolled. For every five cats that enter the raffle, one cat will be rolled from the list. Again, these Death Raffles are entirely voluntary and your cat will only be entered into them once we get your written agreement during a patrol post.
With the integration of Clan Patrols and Lifestyle Prompts for loners and kittypets, battle encounters are a regular part of roleplay! Battle encounters are not lethal by themselves. You and the members of your patrol get to decide together whether you want to chase the enemy off - resulting in the end of a patrol with no fatalities. Or you could decide to pursue the defeat of your enemy, which could lead to your cat being entered into a Death Raffle in the event your cat's health points hit 0. It will only be until after we get clear acknowledgement from you and the members of your patrol during a battle encounter that you're alright with your cat being entered into a death raffle, that we'll add them to the raffle list.
Aside from the drama of character death, what are some of the perks of joining a Death Raffle? First off, once your cat dies you get Afterlife stage art! Clan cats will join SunClan while loners and kittypets can become ghosts, though if your cat has unfinished and nefarious business, there's also the option of joining the Dark Forest. If you're interested in learning more about the afterlife and what you can do with your cat after they've died, please refer to the Death and Death Points thread.
Secondly, when your cat dies, depending on what they've accomplished during their lifetime, you are awarded Death Points (DP) which can be used in the DP Shop for anything from semi-custom/custom cats to mystery breedings and even reincarnation tokens to bring your cat back from the dead! The more your cat does while its alive, like completing patrol roleplays, training apprentices and having kittens of their own, the more DP you'll generate to use on some awesome prizes from the shop!
Lastly, and the most recent addition, is the Scar Raffle! All cats see a battle patrol or life encounter through to the end, at the risk of joining a Death Raffle! If you win the Scar Raffle, you can choose between one of three scars to be added to your cat that survived their battle encounter. There are three scar options to choose from at this time all of which can be seen in the display above! They are by name the Eye Scratch, the Torn Ear and the Flank Scrape. The Scar Raffle is rolled after the Death Raffle and three winners will be rolled from the list of participants. If you are not interested in your cat participating in the Scar Raffle, please contact either Blinded By Silence or belloblossom and we will remove your cat from the Scar Raffle list.
With all these perks do come with some rules to keep in mind when you're participating in a Death Raffle. Since they run in three month segments, you may be wondering about whether a cat who is on a Death Raffle list can still be entered into the CC Monthly Breedings. The answer is YES! Since it's a mystery on which cat will be rolled from the Death Raffle, cats can still be entered into breedings even if they're on the raffle list.
If you are a Clan Owner, then your leader will be automatically entered into every death raffle that's hosted, regardless of whether or not they've taken part in a patrol. Clan leaders may have multiple lives, but they aren't immortal! This automatic entry only applies to Clan Leaders; you don't have to worry about any automatic entries of your cats if they don't lead a clan. Colony leaders do not have to worry about this ruling, because colony cats only have the one life, whereas a Clan leader has multiple granted to them by SunClan.
