The path - such as it was - just past the overgrown bushes was no better. The river dipped down and along the embankment was a handful of what looked like pokemon nests. Tori and Eulalio both stepped forward to inspect a different nest. A nauwillian weedle charges out of the den closest to Eulalio, clearly angry at how close they're getting, while Tori was accosted by a nauwillian scatterbug.
Tori yelped and sent Caspian out to stave off the angry scatterbug. A quick glimpse behind her showed Eulalio trying to fight the weedle with his scatterbug. Caspian landed a handful of moves on the scatterbug but it had the last laugh. Before Caspain could deal the finishing blow scatterbug knocked him out. Based on the dismayed sounds behind her, Eulalio's scatterbug wasn't having as good a time as this wild one.
With Caspian knocked out, Tori got him back into his ball and turned towards Eulalio. He was retrieving Blodwyn at the same time. Grabbing ahold of his arm, Tori pulled them back and away from the river's edge. While the river was where she had hoped to find more water type pokemon, it was clearly a more dangerous area.
"Let's stick to the forest," she said once they'd gotten far enough away from the dens that none of the pokemon were likely to chase after her. As sad as she was to admit it, the river was a bad idea right now. With the combination of thorny bushes and pokemon dens it was too dangerous with the weaker pokemon they'd brought. "How many pokemon do you have left? Just one?"

"Yeah, just Rue," Eulalio grabbed ahold of the ball holding the last remaining pokemon that hadn't been knocked out. Everyone he'd brought had done their very best to try and help the pair of them. They knew they were going to have to do some serious pampering before he took them out again. At least they'd been doing a bit of training with Rue so they weren't completely inexperienced.
"I know you really wanted to find some water pokemon, and there probably will be some... somewhere in here. At least if you can manage to get a fishing rod you'll have an easier time with the river fish." Eulalio tried to console Tori as they started leading the way further into the forest.
Unfortunately, they hadn't gone far enough away from the thickly bushed area and now there were more of the one filled with thorns in the way. Behind them was the pokemon dens and neither of them were in any state to try and deal with any of the pokemon that might get upset at their return so forward was the only way open to them. With a deep breath Eulalio threw out Rue.
"Alright Rue, it's your time to shine. Please, we need to get through these bushes. Use slash!" Eulalio crossed their fingers and hoped. With a soft trill, Rue focused on the bushes in front of them. A moment of gathering power and -schk!- the bushes were neatly cut through. Eulalio let out a relieved huff of laughter before he scooped the lefmew out of the air and squeezed it in an excited hug. A few slightly rough kissed to the top of their head and then he released them.
While the lefmew was more than a little confused, Tori was just as excited as Eulalio that they could manage to get through what she hoped was the last bit of bushes they would need to traverse. If there was any more they would just have to turn back. Rue had managed to get them through this one, and that was enough of a miracle on it's own.
The scent of freshly cut greenery tinged their noses as Eulalio and then Tori carefully stepped over the slashed remnants of bush. Hopefully with how much cutting their way through they were doing it would clear the way for people who came exploring after them. Or even themselves the next time they tried to explore more of the area.

Tori and Eulalio had twin expressions of dismay as they popped out onto the other side of Rue's demolished bushes. On all sides, surrounding a clearing just small enough for the two of them to sit comfortably next to one another were more of the dreaded thorny bushes. It was at that moment that Eulalio turned to look at Tori and slowly bring a hand up to his face.
"I can't believe this," their voice was muffled, but still audible. Tori was too busy gawking at the sharper edge the thorns on these bushes had. Had anything been inside this patch of woods since they had sprung up? Surely something had to have, or a pokemon would want to eat the bushes or or or something! But looking around, there were no tracks, no tufts of fur conveniently for her to pull out and study, nothing.
"I don't think there's anything past this point. It's just more bushes in literally every direction. I can't- how can this forest even BE like this??? How does any of this grow???" Tori was mystified and at this point didn't see any reason for them to keep heading in this direction. They were just trying to hack their way through a never-ending labyrinth of thorn bushes. "What even plant is this!" she cried. There weren't even fruits to justify there being so gosh darn many of them. Giving up on continuing forward, she just plunked down right onto the ground and pulled out a couple granola bars and a thermos of water.
"Let's just take a break and head back," she suggested, offering one of the bars to Eulalio. They'd finally looked up from their hands to take a peek at Rue. There was a halfhearted attempt to clear out some more of the surrounding bushes but Rue just settled down as if to start sunbathing and Eulalio must have decided that heading back was their only option. They sat down cross-legged and accepted the snack. They had a water bottle of their own and the pair of them quietly ate together. When they were done, Eulalio recalled Rue and they carefully headed back to town.
Tori was upbeat about how much progress they had made. If anyone else tried to follow the same path, they'd have an easier time of it. Eulalio was just glad nothing decided to attack them while they were having snack time. Mostly they were upset about not having anything to bring back for researchers. Ah well, next time they'd have better luck.

I am so sorry about the original setup @ pokemon dangers. I know you've done more but just to reiterate - remember in the future that you only have to roll ONCE for a pokemon danger. RIP your mons.
