Wren tightened her laces on her shoes and headed out into darksallow valley. She had been here before with miss Eiruzemlya and it had been and eventful expedition. Honestly it wasn’t her worst showing though there had been so many bugs she had been ready to set the place on fire. This time around she hoped for a slightly less eventful trip. She realized at this last moment she really should have prepared some repels but hadn’t been able to see any in stock when she had been thinking about them. And most of the time they slipped from her mind as it had been a while since her last expedition. Still, she couldn’t really cancel this trip as she knew research space and time as limited. She grimaced but still headed out. This time would surely be a lot better, and she had a full team of her own partners to keep her company. She wasn’t feeling one hundred percent confident in her odds but having been out her before it was better than a blank start. She walked through the cavern into the river valley. It was dim even at midday. She had brought her flashlight and extra batteries along this time. After all the flashes from the chinchou she knew caused some Pokémon to pause so she was hopeful she might spook them off with her flashlight. The air was heavy and seemed to give a sense of foreboding making her shiver without meaning to. She pulled out a pokeball and let out Tea Leaf. She let the eevee walk along side her for safety sake just in case any bugs appeared. She heard several Pokémon in the branches above her and some splashing by the water but didn’t go to close to investigate right now. She wanted to walk around for a short bit while she built up her courage. Hopefully it was just something like a Scatterbug or a weedle after all while they were bugs at least she knew about them compared to who knows what other kinds of Pokémon lived out here. After all she knew research on this place hadn’t been completed yet. Or rather there will still be parts of it that were greyish and not mapped out all the way. She found that both good and bad. She heard the list of Pokémon had been updated quite a while ago but she wasn’t sure if it was completed yet or not after all the island was still very much a mystery. The grasslands had bene so well explored that there were few other surprises out in that area so it was a comfortable zone. This place though. Spooky and unknown. Shaking her had she shoved all those thoughts to the side and kept walking. She really needed to stop focusing on the bad parts. “It’s a good day and I’ll make it that way.” She repeated aloud a few times trying to build up her courage more before she went to investigate some rustling she heard off to her right.

Wren took a look at the trees while Tea Leaf sniffed about their bases. There were several feathers and claw marks. It was a bird Pokémon’s nest. She decided to investigate more around this area. She had heard some rustling so perhaps the bird Pokémon was still nearby. That and if a bird Pokémon was here then she doubted there would be a bug Pokémon’s nest like her last outing. She was being careful with her steps and found a spot to hunker down and wait. She put Tea Leaf away in a pokeball and got into a comfortable position. Her thoughts on bugs was disproven as she saw a weedle crawl past. Thankfully it didn’t notice her and she was spared from having to fight it in a battle. A few hours latter she watched as a rowlet made a noise and moved back to the opening of the nest and cozied it’s way inside. She took a pokeball out from her bag and approached the entrance to the tree and tossed the pokeball in. There was a soft thump and the unmistakable sound of a pokeball opening and clicking closed. She waited for a rowelet to come panicked out of the nest but didn’t happen instead she was able to gently and gingerly reach in and pull out a full pokeball. She was shocked that actually worked. She put the ball into her bag and then continued into her exploration.

She felt something pull at her bag, maybe it was after the pokeball she just put away. Not willing to hand over the new rowlet she just got she swated at the tug only to realize it was a N. Scatterbug. She pulled out Tea Leaf’s pokeball and let it out. Tea Leaf launched into a headbutt slamming hard into the N. Scatterbug dislodging it from her bag and her. Thank goodness for that! The Scatterbug shook itself off and then launched at Tea Leaf seeming to want to scratch at Tea Leaf. Tea Leaf used a tail whip followed up by a bite and the scatterbug waivered and was clearly hurt. Taking out a great ball Wren tossed it at the scatterbug and managed to catch it. She put it in the bag with her rowlet. The bugs it already started. She hoped this wasn’t going to be … a thing on this trip. She shivered remembering they dropped from up high on her on the last expedition. She wished she had brought an umbrella to prevent that from being an issue this time around. She really should have writing those things down as she had completely forgotten. She sighed and took three deep breaths. One she was safe. Two her Pokémon were ok and three she could always turn back if she needed to. She made a smaller goal to go just a bit further today. She had already accomplished a bit during this expedition catching not one but two Pokémon but she wanted to try and push herself just a bit. Especially as she had gotten so much accomplished before she even had gone far.

While she was walking she managed to trip over a root she couldn’t see in the dim light of the forest. She reached out to catch herself and ended up landing on her knees in a patch of plants. Unfortunately for her the plants had some kind of stinging hairs on them making her eyes water in pain as she was hurt. She sat on her knees and curled her hands up back to her body as soon as she was stable and not subject to the fickle whims of gravity. She pulled out her bag and pulled out a bottle of water and run a small amount over her hands. It seemed to help but not much. She added gloves to the list of things she already forgot one of along with the umbrella to deal with the crazy bugs. She stood back up and shook herself out. She had to pull her sleeves down and pull off a few leaves that had more stinging hairs. She cleared them off her pants as well. Taking a few steps her hands still throbbed aching and she picked her way through the plant patch carefully. She noticed the plants also were growing on the base roots of several of the surrounding tree bases. She was going to have be careful if she fell again as there was a good chance she might get a sting from the plant and a wound from the tree. She really didn’t want to see what it would do to a bleeding wound.

She was paying close attention, which may be why she noticed the odd-looking vines. Squatting down she noticed they are kind of odd. She pulled out a zip lock bag and using her hand she turned the bag inside out to scoop up the vines and then fold it back correctly without ever having touched it. Given her recent painful plant touch she wasn’t eager for another stinging plant episode. She was curious what it was as it reminder her of a Pokémon but she couldn’t’ quite place it at this time. She would look it up later. She went to move on and found a fairly nice spot that looked like a good spot for a break. She was feeling fairly hungry and checked the area finding no bugs or other Pokémon. She curled up with her back to a tree so she wasn’t likely to get ambushed and she also let out Tea Leaf and Foxfire for added protection. The pair seemed quite confident today so she set back and unwrapped a sandwich taking a bite. It was a bit dry. She had some honey in her bag. She took a while searching through her bag and then had to repack it once she found it. She twisted open the jar and dipped her sandwich in it. She thought she heard some rustling in the branches above her but when she looked up she didn’t notice anything specific moving around. She finished her sandwich and quickly stuffed the wrapper into her pocket and it was when she was working on recapping the lid when something came out of the shadows after her.
