You don't see what causes it, but regardless of where it came from, you know darn well that the rock that just whacked you out of nowhere hurt. Regardless of whether it was some other adventurer being, well, a bit of an ass, or a pokémon trying to drive you away from its nest, you're definitely going to have a bruise tomorrow.

Far from the perfectly mowed lawns you might be used to in civilization, the grasslands with all their ... grassy tendencies in fact leave you quite disoriented. Before long you're pretty sure you're completely lost, unable to ascertain the right way back home.

Send one of your pokémon to try and scout the way back.

As Pip had been travelling around the grasslands outside the city, they had been less focused on their progress, and more focused on the little Totodile trotting along at their side. They let the little guy wander off to explore a bit, but made sure to reward him every time he returned to their side or made eye contact. It was important to build that strong relationship, so that they had a strong foundation to build skills on. Pip certainly didn't want to find themselves--...

Lost. They were lost. They looked around, trying to see if anything looked familiar. Maybe they should have been paying more attention... Pip looked down at the totodile, who was sitting at attention at their side, looking up at them with big pink eyes.

"I don't suppose you have any idea where to go from here?" They asked, not expected a response. Except, it seemed that the little guy did have an idea. At the very least they started off in a direction, and it was just as good a choice as any Pip would have chosen themselves.

The pair wandered on for a bit longer before Pip started to get worried again. Following the totodile had worked out for them last time -- not long after he had taken off, they had spotted a familiar looking tree -- but now they were back to having completely turned themselves around. Maybe they should invest in a map? Well, trusting Little Guy had worked out last time... probably okay to trust their sense of direction again.

Little Guy stopped, leaning back onto his haunches to stick his nose in the air and sniff. It took Pip a moment to register the strange smell, and in that moment Little Guy took off into a more densely wooded area. Pip was after them immediately, and managed to catch up to him just in time to see him sniffing around the mostly-rotten body of a dead... something. It was too far gone to tell. Pip saw Little Guy stretch forward, about to take a curious bite, and they gave a sharp whistle!

The noise got Little Guy's attention, and Pip gave the command for Return. The baby totodile bounced back over to them, sitting at their feet and looking up at them eagerly, expecting a treat. "Good boy." Pip says, pleasantly surprised that he was so easy to call back from a New and Interesting thing. They took a hunk of meat from the treat bag at their hip and tossed it to the little creature, who munched on it happily.

Pip cast a brief glance at the mushrooms as they led their partner away. They knew that the company was looking for samples of local fungi, and they certainly looked interesting, but the smell was exceedingly unpleasant and they didn't want to risk Little Guy trying to take another bite.

On second thought... Pip told Little Guy to stay, and dashed the few feet back towards the area with the rotting carcass. They took a sample bag and a pair of tongs from their bag, carefully collecting a few of the mushrooms. Fungi had a lot of potentially beneficial uses, but it was probably not to touch it until they had an idea what it might be capable of.

A set of tracks you've found in some soft soil quickly turns into a living discovery - you find a pokémon napping in the shade of a gnarled bough of one of the few, sea-breeze-twisted trees on the grasslands. Its sleep isn't too deep though, as your approach causes it to twitch.

On success, battle becomes optional. If you choose to engage, roll a Wild Battle and the opponent begins the battle with Sleep. On failure, roll a Wild Battle.

As the pair continue their way through the grasslands, Pip notices something in the branches of one of the scattered trees. A sleeping Pidove! Pip's personal experience in one-on-one battles was a bit... limited. They had only, historically, battled in the training center, and with pokemon that belonged to the family. They were always in controlled environments and more about the exercise than the actual battle. It was probably a bit early to try and battle with Little Guy (he didn't even have a name yet) but... this was probably about the safest opportunity they were going to have to tip their toes in the metaphoric water...
