Even though Cadogan tended to be nothing but trouble, he sure did adore the children at the orphanage. More than not, he put his less than scrupulous behaviors to use for their benefit. He would pretend to be like that guy from stories told long ago; the one that stole from those deemed unworthy, and gave to the poor and destitute so that they might live better lives. Just the thought itself made the man grin. Now, of course, he never made mention of where he got such things to give, but he usually never stuck around long enough to be questioned by the adults.
On this particular day, he had managed to snag a rather interesting thing from a festival happening nearby. Something he felt like one of the kids at the orphanage would enjoy since it was generally up their alley! It was a strange shape that opened and had odd buttons. It made sounds, but he hadn't the slightest idea as to what the thing could have been. All the same, his curious little friend was on his mind after he swiped it, and he wanted nothing more than to put a smile on that kid's face!
He slipped into the building and acknowledged the nearby adults. They knew he was trouble sometimes, but since he seemed to have a good heart, they tended to not mind when he would come spend time with the kids.
"Hey kiddo!" he said with a grin as he waved down the child he had the gift for. "Found yah somethin' interestin' today. I haven't the slightest as to what it is, but seemed like something you would be able to figure out." Cadogan knelt down and pulled the small contraption from his pocket, offering it up to his pal. After the excited kid took it from him with quite the enthusiastic snag, the two of them sat down and leaned back against the wall behind them.
"Y'know?" he started after the kid seemed to make some headway with the thing, "I know how you can get a lot more of stuff like that. And maybe I could be the one to show you the ropes?" Now he had caught the eye of one of the adults there at his words, but he laughed and held his hands up with a shrug. He might not be the best role model, but he sure did his best and the kid seemed pretty excited about the idea. He knew it meant that he'd probably have to clean up his act--at least a little bit--but it was something he was willing to do!
