Silverstreak wept.
She'd been hunting for days, had only found one prey that practically fell into her paws and she hadn't been able to take it home without consuming it. Now, she felt as though SunClan was punishing her - for she couldn't seem to find anything else. Or maybe... maybe SunClan wasn't there to punish her anymore, maybe their ancestors had left with her sisters and what she was facing was the absence of anyone looking out for her.
Silverstreak had been mourning the loss of her younger sisters this whole time as she no longer felt as though she could protect them, but that morning as she ducked her head to her chest and sobbed, she found herself feeling so isolated. There was no one out there who was going to look out for
her either. All the cats who had remained were here for the elders or the memories of growing up here. No one gave a tail twitch about Silverstreak and the isolation she felt despite being surrounded by her Clanmates was suffocating. She slid her claws into the dirt.
Would they even notice me if I left? But no, of course she couldn't leave. She had the chance to leave with her family, her apprentice and she'd turned it away. For what? Some loyalty she felt to the land over her own kin? What a fool she'd been. What a fool she was.
She couldn't leave MountainClan. She might survive as a loner, sure, but she wasn't causing any trouble to the Clan right now. She would go on refusing to eat, make sure the elders were comfortable where she could - she might not be able to find prey, but surely she could replenish their bedding and ensure they were as well as they could be. She wouldn't do any harm to the Clan she'd chosen to stay with...even if it killed her. (WC: 317)
