All her (short) life, Persephone had loved to hear stories. Happy ones, real ones, made up ones, it mattered very little - but spooky ones and sad ones really drew her in for some reason. Maybe because she felt compelled to reach out to the characters inside and soothe them with her presence or her pixie dust. The monster isn't an cursed animal, just lonely. The murderer isn't only violent, but misunderstood. The mystery of this or that just needed the right pony to come along and solve it.
And what do you know, but she was suddenly in the midst of such a story herself! How utterly delightful!
Perhaps the innate safety of a "haunted" house tour had fed into the pixie's belief that she would always be alright in her endeavors. Not to mention she had her mother along! Well, one mother anyway, and her favorite if she was honest. Persephone had been nurtured and cared for by several ponies growing up as well as a small village as a whole, so she had come to know many a loving parent. and that was not to say that she liked any of them less! But these ponies had chosen her.
Lady Hellebore Grace, though? Persephone had picked her! Well, maybe not in so many words, but that was basically what had happened. A chance encounter at Death Lake had irrevocably changed the courses of their lives, turning two strangers towards the path that would make them family. Persephone had adopted her instead of the other way around! A kitsune who believed herself to be a monster, but whom the pixie had revealed to be a very good pony indeed!
So when they were able to hang out at the Haunted House, Persephone had hoped that perhaps they would both be able to recreate the magic with someone else and grow their family. A Haunted House tour might put them in contact with some lost pony, right? Plus, who didn't want to get a bit spooked?
Persephone had quickly gotten sucked into the story of the haunted house, even forgetting at points that they were dealing with actors and not real, truly tragic ponies needing a hug. The child had definitely scared her with his initial howling, but by the end of it she was ready to approach and try to hug and help the poor thing. Only, that kid wasn't the one in need of help, huh. That ghost at the end had showed up, and it didn't look like there had been special magic at work to do the spectral look, or how that one visitor had actually fallen straight through...And they had asked for help with her living hooves! Was that part of the act? Judging by the sudden changes: the shouting in the child's earpiece, the appearance of the circus leader, the sealed lips of the other workers who were smoothing things over...
Or. OR. It could be an even more elaborate story within a story! Perhaps the Nightday Carnival had a story to tell, and for once Persephone was a character instead of a listener! If so, she was going to have to crack down and get more investigatey...With Lady Hellebore by her side and all sorts of new friends to learn about, she knew she'd have a full day ahead of her. Whatever sat at the bottom of this mystery, Persephone Pyrefly was sure to be on the case!
