Sunflight had plenty on her mind these days; the clan was growing and the thought of expanding her territory's borders grew with it. The cluster of trees they'd had was fine and plenty, but would it be enough to hold them. The Sun Hill was a place that she'd been considering - perhaps for cats who took more of a liking to ground living, though she shuddered at the thought. Still, a tree was more than its branches to walk upon or its leaves to stretch the sky, it was the roots too and she certainly had never seen a tree with its roots anywhere else besides the deep soil underground.

It was perhaps the first time that she was looking at the ground while tree walking and not up at the next tree she would jump to. Worse on her that she'd been leading the sundown patrol while doing so and had at least one cat behind her. If she'd been looking forward, she would've seen the raccoon unfurling itself from the inner nook of a tree and crawling out, where she landed on the branch directly in front of it.

"Sunflight!" A call behind her had her head turning to see Orioletalon with a look of horror on her face. But why...? Whipping her head around, she saw a raccoon coming towards her, teeth bared. Her fur rose along her spine and she hissed at it, unable to divide her attention away from its large yellow eyes. Raising a paw, claws outstretched, she made as though to swipe at it, but she missed by a tail length. Still... it did to it's part in making the enemy more irate.

Sunflight's attack (if you can call it that) misses the raccoon!

One last patrol, Orioletalon had told her mate. Just one more patrol before she moves into the Nursery. Her belly, showing the roundness of an expecting mother at long last, didn't hinder her movement in the trees, but the knowledge that one bad fall could injure more lives than her own had her walking carefully. While she would've normally led the charge of any patrol, she let her leader, Sunflight, guide the way as the sky grew dark around them.

There were two others accompanying them: Jayfeather and Hawk.
"Come to think of it," She was mewing in Hawk's direction. "It's rather amusing that we all have bird names, in some form. I thought it was just an idea of my parents to name their kits after birds, but - Sunflight!" She gasped, having seen the raccoon before her leader did. She bushed out her fur and stared in horror as her leader pawed at the creature but did not command the patrol to flee or to attack. She swished her tail towards her belly - oh, she wished Birdwatcher was here! She'd know what to do! @PeterPan_da144

Orioletalon freezes up and is unable to attack the raccoon!

There was little hesitation in Hawk's steps when she noted the danger. Previously, she had been smiling and laughing as she was starting to answer the younger she-cat's inquiries. Then, there was hissing and movement. Hawk, poised as ever, had already turned towards the raccoon as it came barreling down the branch at the small group. With a grunt and a heave, she would jump over Orioletalon - as she had been a few paw steps behind on an adjacent branch - and onto the branch that Sunflight was attempting to battle the raccoon on. Unfortunately, she didn't take into account the additional weight properly, and the branch sagged beneath the three creatures, causing the hit she aimed for the raccoon's face to miss entirely.

Jayfeather had been a few branches below, watching the ground for movement. While they primarily hunted in the trees, and he was adept at tree walking, the three she-cats were grouped up rather closely in the higher branches. He was content to give them space to gossip while he turned his ears to the ground. In doing so, however, he was the last to hear the raccoon, and the call for help. With effort, Jayfeather sped across the branch he was on, leapt onto the next, and raced to the trunk of the neighboring tree. He hauled himself up as swiftly as possible, finding himself in the nook the raccoon had previously been tucked into. He now flanked the creature, but as he moved forward to attack it, he added even more weight to the branch. It swayed dangerously, causing his claws to miss the foe too!

The raccoon, finding itself backed up on its branch, takes a swipe at one of the cats and growls defensively against its assailants.

The raccoon hits Hawk for 3 damage!

Sunflight may not be the most battle-savvy cat, but she was the TreeClan leader for a reason. She could practically feel the branch they were all on beginning to buckle under the weight of four cats.
"Get off the branch! Move higher - or lower - this branch is gonna go!" She mewed and leaped off the branch, forgoing her attack on the raccoon. "Safety first, battle after!" She added as she landed on a lower, sturdier branch and hissed up at the raccoon above her. Now that she felt more stable, she was ready to re-launch her attack.

Sunflight opts out of her attack opportunity!

Orioletalon growled fiercely when she saw Hawk take a blow from the raccoon and she surged forward past the brown she-cat to slash her claws towards their enemy! Only to have the raccoon skirt backwards against the tree out of reach. "Bird-dung!" She spat, only to clutch the branch beneath her in panic when Sunflight leaped off it. It was swaying beneath her, but she couldn't find the courage to jump to another branch. Her eyes darted around until they looked down to the ground and a flash of dizziness prevented her from moving any further on the branch.

Hawk was the first to be hit - and she would stumble backwards along the branch as Orioletalon surged past. "Wait!" she hissed, but the younger she-cat had already moved. Spitting, Hawk licked fiercely at her shoulder for a fleeting moment. It stung. "Get down, Oriole! Let us handle it!" Hawk might not be with kit now, and might have planned on having more kits later, but currently Orioletalon was the one heavy with kits. She shouldn't have even been asked to go on this patrol!

Hawk surged forward, pushing herself in front of Orioletalon again. A paw lashed out, quick as can be, but her injured shoulder shivered and her swing went wide. "Go higher! We will drive it down!"

Jayfeather hissed and spat at the raccoon, fluffing his fur in an attempt to scare it further off. Unfortunately, it hit Hawk. The black and white tom surged forward to slash at its tail, but the branch swayed with the sudden vacancy of Sunflight, and he barely caught fur. "Scat!" he shrieked. His green gaze flicked about, and after a heartbeat of time, Jayfeather surged up to a branch above the group. Hawk and Orioletalon were left on the branch with the raccoon, though Hawk urged Orioletalon to back peddle. He agreed. She was too heavy with kit, it would be better if she got herself somewhere safer. Jayfeather readied himself to drop on the raccoon.

The raccoon snarls at its opponents and their attempted attacks, before swinging its sharp claws at the largest (well, largest bellied) cat of the group!

Sunflight had plenty of lives to spare, her Clanmates only had the one. She wished that SunClan had the power to give every cat nine lives, not just the leaders. That way she would be less frightened for Orioletalon, who had just taken a hit from the raccoon. Hearing Hawk's suggestion, she nodded - though the movement may not have been visible in the midst of calamity. She surged upwards in the branches, moving swift and fast - this was something she could do, at least. The muscles under her fur rippled and once she secured a vantage point where she could see the raccoon, she leaped on it. If she missed - she still had eight lives yet, nothing to worry Riversong or the kits at home about.

But she landed on angry, snarling fur and she snarled right back at the grey beast and trying to shove it from the branch it was perched on. She could feel it unbalance and begin to shift over the edge.
"Drive it to the ground! We'll have the upper paw when its on the floor and we can properly attack it from above!" She called to her clanmates.

Sunflight hits the raccoon for 5 damage!

Orioletalon was feeling a lot less certain about this final patrol when the raccoon's claws sliced into her chest. Hissing, she lashed out her own paw, claws out and scented blood when she sliced into its nose. Backing up, she huddled down. She wanted to continue fighting with her Clanmates, but the kits in her were looking only to her to protect them and she couldn't let them down. What if... Oh, SunClan, what if her getting hurt meant that something came out wrong with them? She couldn't bear the thought!
