StoneClan, Opponent: Fox
1. Hunting Training (apprentices roll 1d20 to determine if they are able to catch the prey or not, any numbers 13+ indicate a successful catch!)
2. Battle
3. Battle
4. Scent Identification (all apprentices roll 1d10, if they land on an even number, they're able to correctly identify the scent as (insert prey type here, ex: a frog). If they roll an odd number, they cannot identify any specific prey nearby.)
5. Loner
6. Stealth Training (all apprentices roll 1d10, if they land on an odd number, they're able to sneak up on their mentors successfully. If they land on an even number, they make too much noise and alert anything nearby to the patrol's location.)
7. Battle
8. Battle
9. Oops! Encounter (Oh no, you've stumbled upon a buried nest of wasps while patrolling your territory! While the nest was damaged enough to suspect those wasps won't be back, your patrol members sustained some nasty bites and had to return to camp to get them treated.)
10. Battle

Siltwater had been training his apprentice, Twistpaw, for about a moon now. With Sunseer's warning about foxes, they'd primarily focused on defensive maneuvers and basic attacks. Siltwater had trained apprentices before, young and old, yet he still found Twistpaw to be one of his favorites, as she shared his love of water. He felt proud to be her mentor and he would do all he could to make sure that she was prepared for Clan life and protected while she was in his care.

That afternoon when they set into the pine woods, he had been explaining that they would focus on their strength and speed today - and using it in a way that would get them up a tree faster. Foxes couldn't climb trees and while TreeClan, their neighbors, seemed to think they controlled every tree in the forest, borders or not, nothing would prevent Siltwater from seeing his apprentice up in a safe spot, out of danger.

Unfortunately, it seemed tree lessons would have to wait, as danger came to them. Shoving himself in front of Twistpaw with a hiss, Siltwater's head swung around to face the russet-faced creature that emerged from the bushes.
"Remember your training, Twistpaw, aim for the eyes, the belly, the ears - any weak spots!" He said, before launching himself at the beast!

Siltwater hits for 5 damage!

Twistpaw narrowed her eyes in concentration as she realized partway through being pushed aside what was happening. The scent of the fox had carried its way to her nose while she was still caught off guard, and immediately her training started to take over. Her mind started whirling with possible outcomes and approaches, how to stay safe and attack without exposing herself too much or risking her mentor's safety either. It was her first real battle, and she hoped she would do okay at managing to gain the experience of a battle, whether she landed any strikes or not. The she-cat's only goal was to not actively make the problem worse, or put either of them into danger. She gulped and breathed deeply to settle her body, then chose an approach and launched herself toward the vulpine enemy with her claws outstretched. (142)

It might help if I actually put in the dice amount. Proper roll!
(Siltwater lands an attack for 5 damage!)

Siltwater felt the snapping bite of the fox's jaws on his back and yowled his pain, but he managed to twist around and slice into one of the ginger beast's eyes. He tried to ignore the searing, white pain that erupted from him as he moved, but some part of him told him that so long as Twistpaw was safe - he was doing his job.

Twistpaw saw her mentor get hit and blinked, realizing that he had blocked or distracted in some way so that she didn't get hit, and she felt grateful toward the tom for protecting her while she was still learning, and learning the hard way in this instance. There wasn't any other way to learn hands on though, so it was necessary, and she was relieved to finally have the opportunity. The pair of them should be able to take down a fox, right? She hoped so. The she cat squared her shoulders and tried again to slash the fox with one of her front claws while it was distracted from having just hit Siltwater. (114 / 256)

(Siltwater hits the fox for 5 damage!)

Siltwater glanced at Twistpaw as she moved forward to attack the fox. She missed, but she got the fox's attention enough that it lunged at her. Siltwater pounced at the fox's flank.
Oh no you don't! He thought with a growl in his throat. Focus all your energy on me, I'm the bigger threat here!

With his claws gripping into the fox's flank, he dug in and did his best to hang on and drag his weight down, to do as much damage to the russet-furred beast as possible.

Twistpaw crinkled her nose and face up in concentration. She *really* wanted to land at least one hit before this battle was over. Somewhere it felt critical and important to her to show progress and growth, as well as participate in the defeat more than via just *trying*, and while she would try to be kind to herself regardless it mattered very much to her. So she lined up again and lashed toward the fox again. (76 / 332)

Did not land a hit (critical fail???)

(Siltwater misses his attack on the fox!)

Siltwater looked over his shoulder, to see Twistpaw moving in for another attack, but the fox shook him off before he could see if she hit their large enemy first. Thumping against the ground, he gasped for air and struggled to get up. He had to get back to the battle, to help Twistpaw, to defend StoneClan, or even to ensure that Twistpaw could run away!

Twistpaw winced as she took a hard hit from the fox, slashing her open more deeply than she had hoped any hit she took would do. Blood dripped from her fur and she staggered, but she regained her balance and an increased look of determination crossed her face. This fox was a formidable opponent; certainly more difficult than she had expected a patrol to turn out to be, but they were here and her mentor was doing his best to teach her and protect her so in turn she would do her best. The she cat didn't really think through the long term ramifications, however, including that perhaps with another hit she would be knocked unconscious or possibly even die. She continued on with no regard for her own safety, not even considering that perhaps Siltwater would in turn be in danger from her own actions. (146 / 478)

Siltwater grunted the fox hit him, but he was able to retaliate, scratching at the fox's muzzle and hissing furiously! His ears pinned back, he doubted that he could spook it enough to send it running - especially with the evident damage it was doing to him and his apprentice, but instincts were starting to flare up over his warrior training. He flicked his ears, trying to clear his head. His training was going to be the thing that saw this fight finished, not his desire to puff up his pelt.

Twistpaw was really feeling the pain and sting of her wound. It smarted so much that she was having a bit of a hard time concentrating, but she knew that she had to figure out how to push it to the back of her mind if they were going to make it out of this encounter alive. She could tell that Siltwater was hurting, too, and the fox was landing hits a little more frequently despite the tomcat's quality efforts. The fox seemed to be feeling the few hits that had landed on it -- all from Siltwater, still, which made her frustrated with herself even further... but that, too, she tried her best to push aside and save for later. Focus on this battle was the only thing to do. So doggedly she tried again. The fox would eventually succumb, if they survived long enough. (146 / 624)

The enemy is weak. Choose now, do your cats commit to the kill or chase it off?

If you choose to continue fighting, you are consenting to have your participating cat entered into a death raffle should their hp hit 0. If you survive the fight and kill your opponent, you have earned a free battle scar edit to add to your cat!

If you choose to chase off your opponent instead, all cats will live and the battle ends here. There are no rewards for this except for the safety of your cats.

If the vote is not unanimous, the enemy will be chased away by default.
Please vote now by simply replying to this post with your decision. Afterwards, the roleplay can continue.
