Obviously, this pokémon prefers hot places. The flame on the tip of its tail always burns, and when it is healthy it burns more intently. Its emotions can be seen in the flame as well; the fire may dance and waver when it is happy, and it flares wildly when enraged. There has long been a rumour that if a charmander's tail goes out, it will die, but this is incorrect; its tail will always have at least an ember smoldering in it, even if incredibly weakened. It only goes out if it dies, not the other way around. ​
