Tonight was the night. Ivy Gossamer's parents were distracted with their anniversary. Her father was a hopeless romantic and disturbingly obsessed with her cold mother so as predicted he was going all out for the event. It was the perfect opportunity to slip out and do her own thing. Despite her father refusing to accept it, she was officially an adult and should be allowed to do anything.
There was a club called 'Runaway' that was supposedly more popular with the younger crowd, her peers. Ivy arrived shortly after 10pm, hair and makeup done to the nines. She made her way in and subtly pony watched while sauntering around the establishment, trying to use her observations to blend. The goal tonight was to hopefully not look like an idiot and also get her number out there to some ponies. Girls, guys, whatever. The truth of the matter was that she had zero connections outside of family and needed to remedy that.
There was something very thrilling and a little creepy about the ambience of this place and she was digging it. Most of the building was dark lit, some corners of the room almost pitch black. Flashing lights that changed colors reined down from almost every direction. Some sort of techno rock blasted from the dance floor and there were a good amount of ponies stamping about. The best lit area was the bar and seating areas surrounding it but she hadn't gone over there yet.
Ivy froze up anytime she thought about approaching somepony. What would she say? Honestly, she thought if she put on a confident face somepony would approach her first and everything would seemlessly unfold. That pony would then bring her into their circle of friends and boom, done. Or at least that's what she'd been fantasizing. In reality she felt awkward being here alone and was too nervous to publicly dance or order at the bar because she'd never done either before.
Her parents were the most confident ponies she'd ever met. Ivy was doing her best to mimic the way her mother moved and her dad's intensity but it didn't seem to be working at all. Everypony in here must either be seeing through the facade or believing it and finding it intimidating. She'd made eye contact with at least a dozen ponies and it hadn't led to anything. Maybe she looked creepy like her dad, she was basically his clone after all.
After a couple hours Ivy morosely gave up and decided to call it quits for the night. It had been a learning experience, that's for sure. A disappointing one. Things would have to be gone about very differently next time. Until then she would work on her dancing in private and also prepare some one-liners ahead of time to help break the ice. Hopefully be able to have a conversation with at least one pony...
One pony in particular had really caught her eye and Ivy couldn't stop thinking about them as she walked out. If she was really lucky maybe they'd be there the next time. In her opinion they were by far the most interesting looking pony there. Amazing hair and a very punk vibe about them. A bad boy maybe? It was hard to tell from a distance but she had definitely felt drawn to this Changeling-Pegasus hybrid.
