Trainer: Wren Taurëore
Project: Task: #01 - Meet the Locals
Assignment: Assignment 6: Study a Lefmew
Requirement Proof: Herb the Lefmew

Options Chosen: which rolls you will be doing

DietIns + Nature2... that these pokémon don't seem to eat anything, instead only drinking water. They spend a lot of time in the sun, however, likely photosynthesizing.

Notable BehaviorsClever + Alert3... that lefmews like to bury their body in the soil to escape the heat. The dirt helps them cool off, and the position lets them camouflage as a plant in order to photosynthesize safely.

Wren had received the lefmew to help with research on the island and looking at it clearly thought it belonged out in the garden but didn’t want to just leave it out there in case it decided to become prey for another pokemon or worse escape and cause some damage. Cringing at the thought she set the small container down in the kitchen while she cleaned out a spare room to make into a mini ‘observation room’. There was a nice large window with a modified scratching post and tree already in there with a bowel of water and food as well. She needed to get more toys for this room though. Still after pulling a blanket off her couch she didn’t care if it got ruined she brought the small cage in and put on her gloves. It couldn’t hurt to be cautious with a new pokemon. No sooner had she closed the door to make sure the pokemon would only be in this room and opened the small container then the lefmew darted out and started to explore the room. “Hasty I see.” She spent a few hours relaxing in the room watching the pokemon explore bumping into then hopping onto the scratching tree to be it the sunlight and look out the window and then find the water and it didn’t seem interested in the food at all. That was interesting. She made a note while she watched it take a small sip of water. It played with her and the blanket for a small bit of time. Burrowing in and peeking out at her before coming out and investigating her. She was cautious at first but relaxed after while seeing the pokemon didn’t seem hostile at all but friendly and a bit over curious. That was good at least. After making several notes she made sure the pokemon wouldn’t slip out as she did to get several types of pokemon food to try. She had two Meganium that ate plants so she thought she might try some of that next along with a few other options. She got into her friddge and cut off a few small bits of meat and some fruit she had been planing on dinner for herself putting them into a reusable lunch box that had partitioned segments. She then moved out the garden to get some different kinds of plants to see if the pokemon would like. She also scooped up some potting soil into a wide flat container to use a litterbox though she had a feeling the room would just be covered in dirt as a play box she was sure. Gathering her armful she came back into the house only to find to her horror the door to the spare room open and rattling sounds could be heard from her kitchen. She closed the front door quickly to keep the mayhem contained and moved to the kitchen to find the overly curious lefmew rummaging through her cupboards knocking everything over. Spices rolled across the floor while she chased the lefmew to scoop it up and bring it back to the spare room. Assessing the door she realized she had a lever style handle the pokemon must have bumped open while bouncing around the room. Clever and more then a bit stressful. She was going to have to get some circular nobs and some child safety locks. Getting back to her supplies for testing she kept a wary eye on the door until she reached it and brought in the food and dirt. She laid out everything though it was clear the lefmew wasn’t waiting seeming to want to play in the dirt and completely ignored the food as it burrowed into the dirt and seemed quite content.

She spent several days observing the lefmew both in and out of that room and around her home and garden environments. It would often take sips of water and then move up to the top of the scratching post tree to bask in the sun with it’s leaves splayed out soaking the sun in while it payed no mind to leaves, meat, batteries, fruit, and any other attempt she made at food supplies. While it could be tempted to take a lick of more liquid foods like yogurt it would shake and pull back form them seemly disgusted. It only seemed to want water before it would dart off to a place to find sunlight.

During it’s time in the room it would often burrow into the dirt at night or if the room seemed to warm making it look much like a potted plant which is how Wren started to call it ‘Herb’ for a name as it looked like one.

While outside it would often burrow anytime her Meganium came near to hide from them. Once Saffron sniffed it’s leaves Herb shook violently at her making Saffron back away disinterested. On warmer days it often found a slightly cooler patch of ground and dug it to burrow into. Then it would stretch it’s leaves out into the sunshine and spend a large amount of it’s time there seeming very content. Wren was glad it didn't seem to want to attack or have any conflict with any of her pokemon.

It was clear that while it seemed to live off of water and sunlight that it had a habit of burrowing into the soil to keep it self safe and hide from predators. Temperature also seemed a factor as where it chose to dig in her yard would vary based on the day and heat as well as the compactness of the soil. To make Herb feel more at home in the house Wren put out a large dirt filled planter in the living room where the sunlight would often reach for much of the day so weather indoors or outdoors Herb could burrow in though it did mean more vacuuming to help keep the dirt off the floors. It did have to be sprayed with some small amount of water on hotter days to keep the soil cool to have Herb coaxed into it before the pokemon seemed more content with it.

Writing out a behavioral observation log on Herb and submitting to United Research Associates over the period of a week Wren had several observations and hoped while her pokemon was quite clever and hasty that it wasn’t an aberrant outlier for their data.
