Nero sat in his dorm and stared at the pokeball he was given, knowing there was a living creature within was so odd to him. Claiming the creature belonged to him felt worse though. He tosses the ball, freeing the dark blue Torchic within, thinking about the stories his parents had told him of myths and stories passed does from their parents, and theirs to them, and so on. "What to even call you... I don't want to just go with "Torchic," that seems... impersonal." He reaches out, scritching the feathers at the back of the bird's neck. "You and I are going to be partners now... Halcyon was the name of the ice birds in some of Mom's old stories, I think I'll call you that..." His hand moves to rub the top of the Torchic's head until it coos happily. "I wonder what you and your friends think about humans suddenly arriving... You all had your own little utopia here until they came and built up their town. That United Research Association seems to have the right idea, trying to limit our impact on the environment. We should try to find the ideal way to coexist here, instead of trying to make another Kanto or Unova."
Satisfied with his name choice, he looks to the folder of documents he was given along with the Pokémon. "Study a Nauwillian Torchic, huh? Well, you're the only one I've got available to study. So," He starts looking through his supplies, sifting through food stuffs, "What do you eat?" Making assumptions, he pulls out some dried meats, some basic fruits, and some dried leafy greens. Halcyon just stares blankly at Nero in response, which prompts Nero to stare just as blankly back. "Well... come on... did they feed you before giving you over to me? Do you get hungry in the pokeball? I haven't really had pokemon in a ball before, we usually let ours wander around." After a solid minute of the worst staring contest imaginable the Torchic nibbles a bit of everything, giving no discernable sign of preference.
"Alright... at least you aren't a pick eater, yea?" With a shrug, he cleans up the remaining food, not wanting to attract pests in his room, or anyone else's. "So... Notable behavior... what -kind- of Pokémon are you? No one has reported seeing your evolved forms... will you swim? Maybe actually fly unlike your other region forms..." He watches the Torchic wander around his room, occasionally scratching at the hard floor with one of its feet. "Scratching like that.... hmm.. do you need to step outside? You did just eat, is that it?" The Torchic ignores him, continuing the pattern. "Are you looking for something? don't like the carpet in here? I don't think I'm allowed to change it." He chuckles to himself a bit, watching her a bit longer before determining it a lost cause. "There's too much for me to see out there to be sitting inside. And I'm sure you'll appreciate the fresh air as well." He nods, closing the folder and setting it aside. "Alright, we'll try this research stuff again later... I want to explore this place more than I want to sit around doing paperwork..." He stands back up, motioning for Halcyon to follow him out of the dorm, which she did.
