Farren sunk his toes into the fine-grained sand, still cool as the morning sun had only just breached the horizon line. He grinned at the sea for a moment before lifting the satchel strap from his shoulder and gently placing the bag down. With a soft grunt, he plopped himself down next to it and pulled it into his lap. It took some rummaging, but after a moment, he withdrew a neatly kept folder and, of course, Brook's Pokeball. He flipped the folder open and filed his fingers through the numerous printouts inside before slipping one out of the bunch.

'Task: #01 - Meet the Locals [ Assignment 2: Study a Nauwillian Totodile]' the page read. Farren's bright blue eyes skimmed the page. While he preferred to start at the beginning of any story, it felt right to do his first assignment on the Pokemon he had chosen for his partner. After all, this knowledge wouldn't just benefit the research groups, but him as well. He read through his options; He could study Brook's diet, her physical quirks, her temperament, or make note of any of her notable behaviors. His stomach growled and he found himself grinning. It was breakfast time, after all.

He picked up her Pokeball and pressed the button, releasing her onto the sand in front of him.

"Good morning, girl. Sleep well?" He asked pleasantly to which Brook simply yawned, the bright fangs of her large mouth glinting in the morning sunlight.

"You hungry?" He asked, digging through his bag once more. Brook gave him a strange barking chirp. He raised his eyebrow, he'd never heard a baby Totodile before.

He pulled from his bag a to-go container that held his breakfast. It wasn't much, but it had been free, so he wasn't going to complain. Would Brook like it, he wondered? He reached his long fingers inside the container and plucked out a berry.

"Looks good," He said, and took a small bite, "Oh! It's almost spicy. Do you like spicy food, Brook?" He put the rest of the berry in the flat of his hand and offered it to her gingerly, cautious of those big teeth. The sand-colored reptile simply blinked at him.

"Hm," He set down the container's lid between them and placed the berry on top of it like a plate before plucking out another red berry and popping it into his mouth. He poked around the container. He pulled out a piece of bacon and a hard-boiled egg, adding them to the makeshift platter. But Brook simply yawned, rising from her shady spot to go nestle down into a sunbeam in the sand.

"Not a morning person, are you?" He chuckled, returning the food and its container to his rucksack and looking down the list. He'd readdress her diet later, he decided. What about... "Physical Quirks?" He read, frowning. So far all she really seemed to do was sleep.

"Ah well," He put the file back in the folder and pulled out a leather-bound journal. While Brook slept in, he spent his morning sketching her in the sand, adding small notes in his slanted handwriting to the margins of the drawing. He'd try again later.
