He wondered as he sat there on the sand in the shade of a pair of palm trees with his back to a weather-worn rock if this would become their spot. He had always had a spot. A place to return to. It was never his room, or wherever he was sleeping, no. It always had to be somewhere else. On his father's ship, it was the netting they hung on the side, he would use it like a hammock. Back home on the floating village, it was his family's small fishing boat, lashed to the dock. Would here be the new spot? From behind him, Brook rose to her feet, shaking the sand from her scales with a full-body shake. He chuckled, looking down at her with a smile.

"Well, you seem to like it here," he said, kneeling down and rubbing his knuckles over her scaly snout. Brook closed her eyes and gave a happy rumble, "What do you think? Can we get some work done now that you've had your nap?"

She chirped and sat down at his feet, looking up at him expectantly. Farren plopped down, pulled his satchel into his lap, and began to pull out materials. First came the folder filled with research papers. Then his personal research journal, leather-bound and well worn. And lastly multiple containers of food.

"I'm sure you're hungry, Brook. Let's see if we can figure out your diet, shall we?" He flipped open the folder and pulled the Nauwillan Totodile packet to the front, flipping a few pages and tucking them behind the one with the dietary checklist on it.

"Now, let's see," He reached for the first container and popped off the lid, looking inside, "We have some berries here, a few different kinds." He shook a few out and placed them on the lip like a plate. Brook blinked at him a moment and politely sniffed the berries before sitting back, patiently staring up at him.

"No? Okay, then how about..." He picked up the next container and peeled back the lid, "Looks like a salad. Fresh though, not too bad." He offered the container to the sandy Totodile, unsurprised when she disregarded it, "Your loss, friend, I'll eat that one. Next!"

The last container he had picked up had what looked like jerky in it. He popped off the lid and, before he could start picking them out, Brook's tail began to slap the sand. She opened her mouth excitedly but waited patiently for him to offer her the food. "Looks like we might have found it! Makes sense, you'd like meat." He pulled out a piece of dried meat and tossed it into her mouth, chuckling as she chomped it down happily. He dumped out the rest onto the lip and offered it to her. She dove right in!

He picked at the salad and berries as he filled out the checklist. Seemed to be that these pokémon seemed disinterested in plants or berries, and they were very fond of meat. As for the rest of the sheet, well... Maybe he'd try it again once she was full.
