Drifting along in the peaceful void you have no sense of time, place or direction. Everything is perfectly empty.
And then there is a sharp scent, a shrieking scream and a searing tug. The nothingness is no more. You feel everything.
You gasp in a trembling breath, and open your eyes to a harsh light. A creature stares down at you. "Your soul is restored." As though that is a sufficient explanation for what has happened. The creature pads off, leaving you to chase them down if you want answers.
The world of Roam is a huge mostly unknown place. You play as a Tekulma, a creature closely tied to all three planes of existence. Your Tekulma has recently Awakened, and you are far from alone. Others are Awakening too, and realizing something catastrophic must have happened to the world.
The soul of everything living seems to have fled, leaving a withered, twisted dangerous world behind. What's worse, though you are sure this is your homeland, there's no evidence any Tekulma, beyond the few Awakened, live here any longer. And the Soulless wander the realm, looking for a fight to pick.
Everything in Roam has a soul, from the Tekulma, to the plant life, to the very land itself. Or at least it all had a soul ... A handful of Tekulma have Awakened to discover something is terribly wrong. The soul of the land is gone, as are the souls of most other living things. And everyone knows soulless creatures want nothing more than to pick a fight with those who still have a soul ...
The Tekulma will have to work together to try to restore their world to a semblance of what it once was. Or what they imagine it once was? None of the Awakened have much of an idea of what it was like, beyond that fact that this place must have been their home. All three types of Tekulma will need to work together to make progress.
