It'd been a long, grueling journey that led Graceful Melody to this Jazz club. Any minute now she'd get to go on stage for the first time in this new, exciting city. She'd worked so hard to get here-and fervently hoped it would go perfect. Everything was riding on this. But instead of focusing on the task at present like should be done she was having an involuntary out of body experience. The pivotal past events and emotions of her life washed over her as she waited to hear her cue to step through the curtains. At least some part of her was still smally focused on listening for that.
Loneliness, rejection, confusion... These feelings heavily saturated her earliest memories and still stayed with her to this day. More buried now, but still lying in wait to come out at inopportune moments like this. Grace was so little when they abandoned her that she couldn't even remember their faces or names. The only thing she remembered somewhat well was the sweet, soothing tone of her mother singing to her. It was what made her eventually want to sing too-to help her feel connected in some way. And the hopeful, silly part of her thought that if she sounded similar to her mother maybe they would hear her one day and connect the dots.
Nopony in the small village in the woods she was dropped off by had a clue who they were or where they disappeared to. Once she was old enough to travel to nearby villages and continue asking there was still no information to be found. It seemed to be a dead end. No one ever officially adopted her, she just sort of bounced around from home to home based on who was feeling most hospitable at that moment. There was no getting around how depressing it was to not belong and Grace spent the majority of her time alone in the woods singing, far enough away that it didn't bother anyone.
Eventually she gained enough talent that her community took notice and asked her to entertain them in the evenings by firelight. It was nervewracking at first but Grace soon fell head over heels in love with the spotlight. It was so amazing to finally feel wanted-the key ingredient missing in her life. This made her strive for perfection and more than ever became the driving force in her life.
Now here she was, in this scary city filled with so many ponies outside her own kind, reigniting the mission to find her parents. Getting herself out there hopefully she'd either run into her parents or maybe somepony random would recognize her and have information. She'd exhausted every avenue in her region and so there was really no reason not to. Her friends had also convinced her that it would help give a good impression of their breed to the rest of the world after their horrible history.
"Please welcome to the stage for the first time, aspiring singer Graceful Melody!" the announcer rang out which snapped her out of her reverie. Thank Ghoulie her first song was a melancholy one that these pensive emotions would work for. She took a few deep breaths before stepping out and into this crucial debut. This would determine if she'd truly be able to have a career doing this. It was time to sink or soar.
(OOC: And now imagine Graceful Melody singing something in the realm of this.)
