To receive a custom please read the rules below! It'll guide you in
what can be customed, and how to do so.

  • Make sure you can afford your custom.
Colorist threads will usually have a pay what you want system, but colorists have the right to deny or accept a request if the payment isn't satisfactory. Make sure if you're accepted that you can afford your custom or else you risk being declined.
  • Only post in colorist threads that are open, or open event custom threads.
Every colorist will have their own set colorist thread. This is where you'll post most requests for customs. Sometimes you might also see special custom slots, which will be announced in the Discord.
  • Alicorn/Awakened/Hybrid characters cannot be commissioned without special slots being open.
We will open special slots from time to time allowing these customs, but otherwise, you cannot enter customs asking for an alicorn, awakened, or hybrid.
  • Mockbreedings are not allowed.
Mockbreedings are not allowed. If you want a character to make another character, it must be official and from a breeding.
  • There is no mass cooldown for customs, but colorists may have unique cooldowns.
Check their thread. Colorists may have a cooldown system associated with their colorist thread. Not all will and it's not a requirement.
  • RLC is only done by selected artists. Attempts to bribe for an RLC under the table will result in a blacklisting immediately.
Nym and Tea host RLC exclusively. It'll be announced if there are any exceptions or special RLC news.
  • Post proof of owning for any adopts you use as a reference/inspiration.
We will not accept any requests with adopts you do not own, and we need proof of you owning. This is for b/c pets as well. Do not use an adopt or b/c pet you do not own for references or inspiration of any kind. The proof must be documented public proof of ownership on some site where staff members can see it to verify.

There are a few terms and features you should know upon entering the customs subforum!
This will help you with knowing how we work and what to expect entering our shop with intentions
to custom. It's a fun process, but please ensure you read this post entirely!

Every colorist will have their own thread for accepting customs. Breedings will be accepted in the breeding subforum, so ensure your requests are only for customs. Colorists may set their own prices or leave it as a PWYW system. Payment can either be Basilisk Stew credits, a pet trade (if you work for an adoptable shop or project), or art. At this current time, we are not allowing customers to offer items from another site or already existing pets from other adoptable shops.
Do not offer physical items or RL currency. RLC slots will be opened and announced on the Discord, and only certain artists can take them.
Colorists also have a system to pick edit levels and when they're allowed to take on mystics. Understand that when you order something higher than an unedited slot the artist must earn the credits to be able to take on that kind of work.
RLC is not open for all artists. As of right now it is locked to the line owners, Nym and Tea. New breed orders are also allowed to be taken by ~Ghastly Demise~. She will announce when she's ready to take on a new breed! RLC will be announced on the Discord! When slots open you will put your request within the designated artist thread and, if accepted, will be pinged to discuss payment. Payment not received within 48 hours, unless a payment plan is discussed, will be considered releasing the slot. We are working on a new RLC TOS! It will be linked here once ready.
M4S offers templated hair, accessories, and edits. When purchasing product from here you are accepting that your character will come with templates. Regardless of how edited your pony/pet is, it still originates from the shop templates. Ponies/pets are not drawn unique for each customer! You may, when ordering a custom, offer to allow the artist to template any hair or accessories they create for your character. This means that template will be opened for future shop use! Please read artist threads correctly, as some artists will indicate they'll template hair for any x type of custom! It is your responsibility to read their rules.
We also may request permission to template something! It is within your right to say no. You cannot revoke permission once given. If you agree to us using it you cannot put stipulations on the templates use.
Hybrids are rare due to how the world works. Usually, magic overtakes the breeding and determines one or the other breed is used for a child. Hybrids are considered unusual, and thus are harder to get within the shop. We will announce special slots for hybrids. If you don't see an announcement for one, don't attempt to get one; you'll be declined. RLC is a way to skip the wait. You'll also see occasional games and BS Auctions for Hybrids, so keep an eye out for what fits your interests.
It is important to remember Hybrids are considered a breed mixed with another breed. Morphs can mix as much as they like as long as the Morph can be on that breed. You can find more information _____ (Will add as we bring the guide over).
Morphs are edits considered commonplace within M4S. Within lore, they are consistent edits to a pony that can be seen in multiple societies and are not stuck to bloodline or families. For shop purposes, they're templates that can be used to change the appearance of a pony that is not considered a curiosity. Some Morphs cannot go on certain breeds, but the guide found ____ will indicate which Morphs those are!
Morphs do not add to the cost of a pony. You may mix them with other Morphs without it being considered a Hybrid (as long as all Morphs requested can go on that breed of pony). When customing you also may request parts of a Morph not to be used (such as using the Chicken Morph from the Animal Crossing set but requesting we do not add the head crown).
There was a time we had older lines, and we still have some of those lurking! They are not allowed to be used for RP or breedings, and cannot be displayed as characters currently. Ponies on the old lines are considered non-existent. If you wish to play that character you must convert them onto the new lines. You can do so by posting them in an artist thread!
It is important to check if the old artist is still with us. If they are only post that conversion for the artist here. If the pony was done by someone retired you may post the pony anywhere you wish. The colorists who have remained within the shop are: Yushika (name has changed to Nym), Variable Nonsense (name has changed to polliwoggi).
Cosplays are characters based off another character from media. For M4S purposes a cosplay is not the character themselves. You may name your character after the one they're inspired off of, as well as make them look exactly the same, but you do not own the Inuyasha from the actual manga/anime. You own someone based off them. This also means there can be multiples of any given cosplay; you are not the only one entitled to that cosplay. You may see four Inuyasha's running around with the same stories and appearances.
Currently, Pokemon are off limits due to future shop plans. You may have a character who has some Pokemon colorization, but we won't make direct cosplays and we won't make your character have all the features of a Pokemon.
Full Custom: You have full control of what your pony/pet looks like. Artists will follow your instruction.
Semi Custom: You can offer a few items for inspiration, such as palettes, songs, moodboards, or even words. You may request a breed and growth stage. Artists will run free from there.
Blindbox: You request any pony/pet to be given to you. You have no say on design.
Conversion: A pony from the old lines converted onto the current lines.

Now that it's time to order a custom you need to know what you can and cannot order.
While some of this was covered in the post above, hopefully this answers more direct questions
one may have.

Check the rules for the thread you're entering! Some artists prefer different slots. First start by checking what they allow when it comes to edit levels and how much freedom they have in design. This will prevent you from entering forms that break their rules.
You may custom Generation One characters, meaning you cannot receive mockbreedings. You cannot request a custom to be the child of existing characters. Children should be received only via breedings. You may have a pony be adopted, however!
You may custom siblings or cousins to Generation One characters. You may not for any generation further, as it begins to get into mockbreeding territory. Primarily, an easy way to remember these rules is we'd like to see family building be done via official breedings.
You may custom b/c pets/adoptables you have in other shops into M4S. We will need to see proof of ownership, which can be done by presenting a cert with your name, proof of purchase, or speaking to the original artist to confirm they are yours. This is not our responsibility, and we will not do so for you. If the character you have comes from a shop/adoptable/location that does not allow you to get that character elsewhere you may not receive them here.
You also may custom unedited, edited, and heavy edited ponies with the understanding that certain edit levels (anything above unedited) will be harder to receive. Artists have a system that helps them know when they can take on certain edits and breeds. Check the breed guide, as anything not common will require the artist to "save up" for. Mystics follow the same system. Do not ask what artists can take on, it is up to them to release that info. They will pick slots as they can.
You may custom cosplays! Cosplays should be of characters presented in media for public consumption. Good examples are; characters from the game Kingdom Hearts, characters from the anime/manga Inuyasha, or a character from a movie like How to Train Your Dragon.
As mentioned above, you may not custom mockbreedings. You cannot request a custom to be the child of existing characters. Children should be received only via breedings. You may have a pony be adopted, however! You also cannot custom in siblings for Generation Two and onward, as it enters mockbreeding territory. Primarily, an easy way to remember these rules is we'd like to see family building be done via official breedings.
You may not custom an adoptable or design you do not own. When using adoptables or b/c pets for design inspiration or direct conversion we will need proof you own it. You also cannot custom an adoptable from a shop/group that prohibits that design being used elsewhere, even with proof you own it. Check with the original community first before customing them into M4S.
Cosplays of OCs. An OC is not considered media made for public consumption, and we have the right to reject cosplays in areas we feel is inappropriate. You may custom your own OC into the shop, by all means, but do not take the design or character of another to bring into the shop. For example, the OC of a Tumblr artist you follow is not allowed to be cosplayed, while Sailor Moon from the manga/anime Sailor Moon can be.
You may not custom using inspiration from art you do not source. If you are using art as inspiration you must credit the original artist. You must also understand we will not copy their work entirely; it is just inspiration.
You can not custom Alicorn/Awakened/Hybrid's unless special slots are open to do so. We will announce those times.
Anything not considered acquirable on the body through a breed normally or through a morph is a curiosity.
Glow is not considered a curiosity, and minor mouth changes are not (within reason). A pony can have a snake-like tongue poking out without it being considered a curiosity, but if it becomes extreme it is (examples are a tongue that hits the floor, a tongue shaped like a hand, etc etc). Eye colors, sclera colors, and different pupils are not considered curiosities. You can have pure white eyes or rainbow eyes with diamond pupils all you want!
Edits that do not change the body are clothing and accessories, which you may be free to custom! Hair counts as an edit if not a template we are offering, and length changes the severity of the edit. Long hair is often considered a heavy edit due to the time it takes to create. You may, prior to receiving your custom, indicate you'll allow us to donate hair for shop use to lower the edit level. You must understand the hair will become templated for future creations, and not all artists will allow you to template!
Stitches are, usually, considered an edit if not a marking. You may have stitches as a marking or stitches physically on the pony (which turns it into an edit). It must be understood that stitches cannot hold together skin for normal customs; they are an aesthetic choice a pony does to themselves that might highlight patchwork markings they have. Ponies with these edits are not considered to have skin-like fabric, or skin held together. If you want a pony that has stitches that keep their body together that would need to be a curiosity.
Scars, wounds, and disabilities are allowed. The world has magical prosthetic and you may request them! Those will not always pass in breedings, and not be considered a curiosity.
Always check the morph guide! You can receive a lot of various edits via morphs, which drastically change the edit level of your custom!
As mentioned above, RLC is locked to the line owners (Nym and Tea) and the head lineartist (polliwoggi). Nym and Tea will announce when they're accepting RLC orders. Do not request RLC from anyone else, or when they're closed.
