4You stumble into a plant patch covered in stinging hairs. Roll INS + DEX to extract yourself safely.Trainer Danger2

The players encounter a danger, whether terrain or pokémon based, which directly threatens one or more players. If the event indicates all characters are in danger, roll the directed stats vs the event's difficulty for each character. If a character fails the roll, they lose 1 VIT for the remainder of the Expedition. If the event indicates one character is in danger, players decide which character will be targeted; players may roll 1d20 with the lowest number being targeted if they don't want to decide themselves. That character rolls the directed stats vs the event's difficulty. If they fail, that character loses 1 VIT for the remainder of the Expedition.

"Ah, you haven't seen one of those yet? They're the regional poliwag." Pip pulled a nest ball from their belt and tapped the button to summon the pokemon inside. The little green tadpole pokemon appeared on the ground next to Little Guy, and immediately clamored on to the other pokemon's back.

Seeing that Mothra seemed to want to introduce herself to their pokemon, they looked to Oliver for permission before giving Little Guy the release signal so he could close the distance and start sniffing around the other pokemon in greeting. After they had appropriately introduced themselves to the other pokemon, Little Guy and their rider moved over to Oliver for attention.

"Your pokemon seem very happy as well." Pip said in response to the compliment. They were actually a bit self-conscious about their pokemon rearing. Objectively, they knew how to train a pokemon -- they'd been training other people's pokemon for most of their life -- but it was different when they were entirely your own responsibility. Sometimes they weren't sure they were doing it right.

Unfortunately they were distracted enough by their thoughts that they had stopped paying as close attention to where they were walking... and stepped right in to a patch of the stinging nettles!

"Oh shit shit shit not again..." Pip cursed, hopping sideways out of the patch and going for the deodorant stick that was now living full time in the most accessible side-pocket of their bag. They immediately started applying it to the part of their leg that had brushed up against the plant. It wasn't the most effective killer of the sting, but it made it much more bearable.

"I was wondering if it might be a poliwag," Oliver mused looking over the round aquatic pokemon in interest. They were rather lovely, and he could use another water pokemon on his team when he finally go a chance to bring nessie over. "Do you think they be more land or aquatic in their evolution stages?" He gave a nod, letting Pip's pokemon approach.

Mothra gave a soft chrrr as she eyed the new pokemon and then gently bopped them both with her fore paw in a greeting. Her tail lazily swayed as she went to follow her trainer and gave a Katttttykatttty wheeze of amusement as she noticed Pip in a nettlebush.

Oliver nodded to the pokemon, turning slightly as he heard the crash and paused. "Well, I take it this has happened a few time's already or you have pack backed a lot," he mused, as Pip whipped out a stick of deodorant.

"Do you want some pain killers? Or anti itch spray?" Oliver question, heading towards his pack and frowned at the sudden weight pulling on it. "What in the world," He muttered, lifting it to see a rather bold chinchou attached to it, mouth sealed shut and legs windmilling.

"Well this is just ridiculous." He stated, and looked to the Delkatty. "If you would?" He questioned and hummed a little noise of thanks as she used Disarming voice to remove the chinchou. "Thank you."

Oliver dug out a research ball and slapped it down on the confused looking Chinchou. "Into the ball with you."

"Once or twice," Pip admitted with a grimace. They really needed to invest in some longer pants. Maybe they should just wear their wet suit next time?

"The deodorant is actually pretty-" they blinked at Oliver brought his bag around to reveal the chinchou. That was... unusual.

It seemed that the creature had a friend though. Another chinchou was hiding under a shrub near by, watching it's friend's questionable attempts at thievery. Pip signaled to Little Guy, who reared up to dislodge it's tadpole hitchhiker and then slipped off to come around to come at the pokemon from behind. A moment later it surprised the chinchou with a solid Bite from behind, and then started prowling around it to keep it from running off. It was a bit disconcerting how well such a gentle pokemon could put on such a Scary Face.

While the totodile herded the chinchou into position while Pip pulled a pokeball from their pocket, and together they were able to capture the little creature! Catching pokemon was still something of a novel experience for Pip, and it wasn't until the ball had clicked-success that it occurred to them that this -- the second pokemon they had ever caught for themselves -- was also a water type. They'd now caught two pokemon for themselves, and both of them were water types.

Wasn't the whole point in moving out here to not become a water-type trainer? Pip (valiantly) resisted the urge to sigh. Their mother and Mémère would be thrilled.

"There are a lot of these guys in the river." Pip told Oliver as Little Guy retrieved their newly filled pokeball for them. "I've seen a couple of schools of them now. Pretty sure they're still normal electric type chinchou -- er, water-electric, I just meant... you probably know what I meant --, so you should be careful before getting in the water." Then Pip remembered that most people didn't go swimming in Rivers and they chuckled awkwardly. "Er... if you were going to go in the water, that is."

2A section of the ground suddenly gives way, plunging you into a sink of soggy mud and broken leaf litter. Roll STR to escape (all trainers).Trainer Danger (Major)1

If the event indicates all characters are in danger, roll the directed stats vs the event's difficulty for each character. If a character fails the roll, they lose 1 VIT for the remainder of the Expedition. If the event indicates major danger, then all characters must roll the directed stats vs the event's difficulty. If any character fails, all characters take 1 VIT of damage or the remainder of the Expedition. If half or more of the characters fail, the characters are instead collectively Knocked Out and must end the Expedition.

"That is good to know." Oliver hadn't swam in rivers much, mostly oceans but it seemed like the same dangers in each. "I never really got in the habit of swimming in fresh water. I tended more to mantine surfinnggg...." and then the ground opened up and swallowed him.

Oliver hissed, tucking the best he could to minimized damage as he landed with a grunt and a displeased sign. "What in the absolute fuck," he swore, blinking up at the canopy . He patted himself down, making sure the scatterbug tucked in his collar was fine and signed. "Mothra! Go and find some help!" He called and sighed. "So much for this journey."

Pip stumbled backwards when Oliver dropped, not wanting to follow them. They were surprised when they disappeared completely from view -- the other sink holes they'd encountered had only been deep enough to swallow most of a leg. They crept a bit closer, to make sure Oliver was still okay, and saw that it looked like the sink hole had opened into some kind of (thankfully apparently abandoned) den. At least he was talking, and it didn't sound like he was actively bleeding out or anything.

"Hang on! I have some rope in my bag." Mezzo floated off of Pip's shoulder to hover over the hole, and Pip took the fact that it wasn't reacting to anything as a good sign. It probably would have dive-bombed any pokemon that had appeared, if there were any. Pip, meanwhile, moved to one of the trees and took out the rope they had squirrelled away in their bag. It was thin, but it should be more than strong enough to hold. They had brought it in case they needed to set up a safety line somewhere. They secured it around a sturdy trunk and moved carefully back to the hole.

They crouched down to distribute their weight, just in case, and tossed the free end of the rope into the pit. "Do you know how to tie a harness? Then I can help pull-"

They had, apparently, not distributed their weight sufficiently. There was a lurch, and the ground beneath them gave out and fell into the pit, taking Pip with it! "Ah!"

Pip did their best not to crush Oliver when they landed.
