Floretta had started out from the main base of Nauwill with her new companion, Peony, to explore. She wasn't allowed to bring Petal, which was rather upsetting, especially for her sister who had to stay behind for other reasons. She now had to rely on this brand new baby flower child (as her sister put it) that presumably had no experience in the wild.

That being said, Floretta wasn't really... Exploring. She was mostly wandering, holding Peony in her arms as they seemed content to settle and sunbathe while she carried them. In doing so, she wandered off the path and nearly stumbled into a little hollow, spying what looked like a mound of breathing Poke'mon. Excited, she drew closer to see if she could get a better look.

It was an entire nest of Weedle! Floretta gasps and stumbles back away from them, but one comes right at her! Peony has since fallen from her arms and taken a small tumble, but is now on its feet and ready to fight.

the 6 hits

0 accuracy means that as long as you get 1 hit to succeed, it will connect
if it has -1, you have to roll at least 2 successes
same thing if it has -2 or -3
if it has positive accuracies, you don't have to roll as many

roll damage pool = 3d6
if there is a success (4 - 6), it counts as 1 damage
since Peony has 2 defense, and Weedle is using a physical move, it will attack Peony's defense, so in order to deal more than one damage to Peony, it needs to roll more than 4 successes. if there is even one success, you deal 1 damage

here, I can do a trainer action if I want. such as trying to catch the Poke'mon. No bonuses currently since it's not under a status effect, not past half health, or not 1 health. If I pass the trainer action, I go back to the top of the initiative and roll for Weedles next attack.

we have 5 research balls, with a catch score of 5. roll 5d6, score a number of successes based on how strong the Weedle is. He is a beginner, so I need 4 successes to catch. Research balls only have a catch score of 5, so I need to roll 4 out of 5 successes to catch the Weedle. Auto successes only apply if it has less than half health, 1 health, or is under a status effect/paralyzed/frozen/asleep.

we only got three successes, so we did not catch the weedle, and now we have to check to see if the ball breaks. roll 1d6. 1-3 = break. 4-6 = reuse

Weedle cannot use that move again until I put out another Poke'mon. so rolling for moves, I only random 1 through 2 for Bug Bite vs Tackle

critical hit means add 2 more dice to damage roll. damage roll is now 7d6. whoopsie, sorry Weedle

... we just hit him for 5 HP. subtract the Special Defense. Dealt 4 damage, it only had 3, so we knocked out the Weedle kid. but we can still try to catch! just no auto successes since it's knocked out. so just rolling the capture score for the research ball (5d6). if I get 4 or more successes, I catch. if I do not, it will get up, run away, and battle is over.
