The Dream:

The dream, over and over again, is that of them up on a tight rope. High above the ground. There are hundreds of ponies staring, but they can't make out any faces through the lights that shine up at them, making them the centerpiece of the event. It's deathly quiet as they stand there, in the middle of the tight rope, teetering back and forth.

Back and forth...

The crowd grows anxious beneath them.

Back and forth...

With the sudden release of a breath, they start forward again, only to immediately slip. They try to catch the tight rope as they hear the ponies beneath gasp and cry out. But they can't catch it.

So they fall.

Just before they hit the ground, they lurch awake.

For a few frantic moments, they remember what happened, and are thoroughly spooked.

But as the day goes on, they can no longer grasp the details of the dream. They remember it scared them, but why?

Several more days go by, and it's as if it never happened. They have an aversion to high places, even things like curbs, though they don't realize it, nor can they place why if they were to realize it.

Then the dream comes back around.

The Dream: Their dream always begins on that night, the one that will replay in their mind forever, unchanging no matter how much they wish they could change the past.

Bright, flashing colors pump to the sound of rhythmic, pounding music. Dark silhouettes of ponies outlined in neon hues crowd the dancefloor, jumping in time to the music. The concert goers around them dance close together, pressing in around them and making it hard to move, hard to breathe. They have to balance their orb on their head to make sure it's not lost in the crowd and they inch towards the open space away from the clustered ponies.

The music surges and a cheer goes up from the crowd - someone has begun to crowd surf, laughing gaily in their delight. As the dark shape moves overhead, their orb is dislodged from their head and falls between the concert goers. Their scream goes unheard as it falls to the ground and as they frantically search for it, they can feel their body strain and weaken - their bones feel like jelly. They see their orb, knowing without seeing it that it has hairline fractures in its surface that feel and look like stars.

As they surge towards it, the crowd presses in around them and they are consumed by the crowd before they can reach their orb.

When they wake with a hoarse scream, it's in a hospital bed, with their orb tucked near their chest, the cracks in it glimmering like stars.

The Dream:
Every day, the young Kitsune rises from his bed, the thrum of his heart louder than usual, but he never seems to notice in time. As he packed his bag for his daily walk into the nearest town for coffee, his paws feel light. Flickers of dancing lights pop in and out of the corner of his eyes, but he fails to notice them. Every. Single. Time.

Just a moments walk from their house and they come to the bridge they must cross, the bridge they DO cross every morning and every night in and out of town. Only today, oh today the bridge is not kind.
Tap tap tap tap.. rhythmic steps as the cracks seep from below their paws. The calm steps turn to running, as stars peek through the cracking bridge beneath them as their orb balances in their pack.
He can never run far enough, though, as the edge of the rocky bridge scrapes against him as he falls down into the stars.

Water cascades around them as they land into the river with a deafening crack, the bag fastened to their back yanking them lower and lower. They try to shrug it off, fumbling against the yank of the tide, screaming up towards the sky, that has twisted itself. It is wrong. He cannot identify it, but above the waves it simply is.. wrong.
Before he knows it, the bag strapped against him has fallen off, and he makes a race for the surface. Only.. to find none. There is no end, no air, he is swimming amongst the galaxies with no hope in sight. Where has air gone.. He screams and sobs against the rocking waves made of dust and stars, screeching for help with air he doesn't have.
"Help me.. Please stars help me please..!" Cracking shaky words, his voice disembodied from his mouth, so quiet he fears not even he himself can hear.

His begging his answered, as a small light seems to slowly buzz into existence below his paws. So down and down swims the frightened pony.. his ORB! He had near abandoned it as he shrugged off his bag! How ever could be forget his orb?! He no longer has the sense to realize the oddity of the fact the orb hadn't returned to him either way..
He reaches out his paws, into the black abyss that stretches and mutates his own limbs, grasping at his life, his home, his orb..
and it burns.

As he frightens himself awake, in the same bed, the same small house, with the same daily routine to walk to the cafe.. he spends many more hours checking the sound his heart makes, the light of his eyes, or the weight of his paws, in fear today is the day the dream finally takes him as he crosses that lonely tired bridge.

The Dream: In this reoccuring nightmare she gazes into her orb and sees the future. Or more, feels it rather than sees it. She sees herself but nothing appears to be going on-time and location unclear-but she's hit with a level of sadness she could never have imagined. It feels like hundreds of needles to the heart. The despair so heavy and overwhelming it makes even breathing difficult. But she has no idea the cause-just knows that it'll happen and when it does life will never be the same again.

time to announce a winner!!

Firstly, I'd like to thank you all for entering! These were very enjoyable to read.

Alas, there can only be one! Winner, that is.
One entry in particular had my nerves prickling as if I were truly witnessing someone's all too real recurring nightmare.

Congratulations to @AlicornPlayhouse !
Your entry's description of the obvious discrepancies that were simply ignored really captured that obliviousness that comes with dream logic in most cases.

Here is your prize, a lovely pony coloured by Tigeria! Keep them away from bridges.
