The air is hot and thick, muggy with the weight of summer's intensity. A humid haze engulfs every space, with only the coldest and most well sealed controls offering any true reprieve from its heat. Even the nights are hot, though no longer sweltering, and the moisture hanging in the air clings to skin and fur alike as some suffocating blanket, threatening to smother every languishing tourist or, for the time, unfortunate denizen in its barely tolerable embrace. Not as further out as others might think, only the crest of midday offers any relief from the constant screaming of insects and the eager songs of amphibians; all the rest is a constant cacophony of the humming life that swells from a soft din to an overbearing symphony of natural inclinations earmarking this time of year. Yes, even in the city proper there is no full escape from croaking frogs and buzzing cicadas, but further out to the lake and twisting swampland there are times of the day where their cries are truly, nearly deafening.

It is late summer in the big easy, and the Earth itself reminds its residents that it is still very much alive.

Nearly five years have passed since the planet began to change, yet the governments of this blue-green world have thus far managed to keep that fact a secret. How long can they can manage? Many wonder, yet the smaller populations of the invaders work along the rules of those entities that would see them removed. Some revel in their rebellion, teasing at slipping through the tight iron grip that state officials have around their very existence, while others simply slide right under it, integrating into society as a whole to walk among would-be friend or relished prey as one of them - or even still to hunt others of their ilk away from the reaches of the Void. Yet, despite the changes swelling under the surface of society, the world continues to turn, the seasons continue to change ...

Life goes on.

Humanity as a whole has no idea of what's going on just under their noses. There are fringe groups that are aware, from quiet covens and cabals of those exposed to true magic to the paranormal groups passing around photos and stories of odd creature sightings as they always have, but these are largely ignored by the majority of the population. So far, it has been relatively easy for the governments of the world to do as they desire; the majority of smaller windows that the sanjari have found are tenuous at best, allowing only a few of their number to squeeze through, becoming little more than local cryptids in the process. That leaves only the larger portals directing to a single city, and the fear of isolation has kept many Endless restricted to the area in and around New Orleans. Yet the vast denial of their existence makes it simpler to keep the peace there; odd happenings are chalked up as drunken revelry, voudou nonsense, or even - in a couple of cases - nothing more than swamp gas. The local governing bodies eagerly deny that anything odd has been going on in their dear city, and the federal agents stationed therein are quick to dispose of or chase off any too-exposed Void-born with a deadly intensity. As for the locals? Strange things have always happened in the Crescent City, haven't they? Monster sightings weren't necessarily rare before, and most swamp folk outside the city limits have already been reporting supernatural happenings for decades anyway!

As for espers? The Void may offer an explanation to many things for them, but their reactions are largely akin to their physical relatives. After all, they'd still have to encounter an Endless to feel their presence, and with so many of the newcomers reacting in terror to their existences... it's easy to see why they haven't made contact en masse either.

Elphyme have been living in the area for centuries, though it's strange to them that other beings like them exist, now! The population in NOLA lacks the caves and hideaways that their cousins in other regions enjoy, and so these "swamp fairies" have adjusted to live appropriately over the years. Many of them simply live openly in the city proper, using their natural glamour to skitter between rickety alleyways and through sewer lines with ease; over twenty years ago, the mayor signed an agreement with them to provide trash and waste as a food source in exchange for certain scavenged materials - being that they can eat anything, elph tastes are quite a bit different than humans', after all. This has led to them being considered quite wealthy and prosperous by their own race's view, and what they can't salvage from the junk they're given many simply pilfer from unsuspecting humans anyway.

Alliosa have, largely, found humanity quite enjoyable to integrate with. Humans, with their surprising lack of extrasensory abilities, have made it all too easy for these dogged shapeshifters to simply join their ranks, and the abundant free emotion pouring from them at all hours of the day makes it possible for them to maintain their appearance constantly and with little effort. Over the years since the first of their kind snuck in simply as canines, the clans that have clustered at their large window have slowly begun to root down and deeply embed themselves in what their newest generation now consider their home city. Numerous of their kind have even infiltrated local offices, creating a lucrative and helpful service of falsifying identification documents for other Endless. While not all of them have any interest in this society, preferring instead to their way as animals or boogeymen, many of them find the allure of humans' modern technology and abundant food source hard to pass up.

Sanjari are, to say the least, a bit more split on the whole thing. The clans temporarily united in their access to the Earthian windows are still, well, individual clans, and within that they view each other with suspicion even under their temporary truce. That isn't even counting the most recent generation of their ilk having been born in the last two to three years; these individuals represent yet another point of tension, finding humanity to be more than simple food. However, while there are numerous tiny politics within individual clans, there are two main schools of thought among them - and as time passes, these two schools are rapidly becoming the seed for two mega-clans to form. The first is the original view that humanity is mere sustenance; they offer nothing else of value, and the only reason to be on Earth is to stalk, kill, and consume these lesser beings. These sanjari make up the monster sightings in the city and, more often, in the swamps beyond, terrifying their prey and feasting on the abundance of fear before consuming their life force and many times corporeal forms as well. They are the "evil" in the marshlands, true monsters caring nothing for the creatures they crave, all too eager to take their kill at the slightest hint of a chance. The second group are those who find fascination with humanity; these are the ones who have made an effort to learn the languages and writing of the region they now stalk. Their naturally vicious and competitive nature make it difficult to merge with typical society, and while some have managed, many of them find themselves drawn to the cutthroat nature of high business, politics, and, in particular, organized crime. What better hit man than one who can simply make a body disappear without a trace, after all, or drug runner than one who finds a policeman little more than a snack?

Finally, the grimmalkin - strange and enigmatic as they are, there are only a handful of them compared to the other races, and who can offer generalizations on a race that prides themselves in their freedom to do as they please? Yet, even then, we might look to the abundance of their typical prey as the cause of their arrival on the planet, and even while they are the private beasts they are, it is more than possible to draw conclusion about the few mass murder incidents which occurred early on in their arrival. While these reports were covered up as acts of terror, as is often the case, it was more likely that the lack of further episodes was a case of learning; any Endless still alive knows by heart how valued stealth is, and how it is the best course of action. Ultimately, however, just why each grimm arrives can be answered by none but that individual - yet they too stalk the streets of the city, without doubt.

And so we come to you - you, the player, and by extension some character directed by you. Who are they, who will they be in this world? We have set the stage for you at the very dawn of our story, and now it's up to you to decide the fate of one piece in such a sprawling game; will you be nothing more than a pawn under the machinations of higher plans, or would you be a queen to manipulate the board at your whim?

This is our opening event and first meta prompt. These will be periodic events that shape the history and setting of the shop! Some of them will be relatively short, like this one, while others will be longer, more involved events. Whichever the case, they will go down in the shop's history as large happenings, and will be recorded for ease of memory in the future.

In this instance, there is nothing particularly happening, but the shop is opening! This is a bit of a freebie in terms of interactivity, as everything you do here is going to be solo (though you're free to plot with others if you want!) and all conceptual!

Your task for this event is to create a character; below, we have some prompts available to help you out, but ultimately we want you to think about a personality, history, place in the world - anything about a character that you think could or should exist in this world and fill it out. In exchange, everyone who participates in this event is guaranteed to win a character - even if it's not the one you thought up!

Basic requirements:
Write minimum 500 words about a character!
OR
Fill out a full Character Profile Shell (seen below)!

Allowed structure:
Any! Feel free to write paragraphs, bullet points, an outline, whatever.

Restrictions/Notes:
Please note you are 100% welcome to base your personality on your favorite meta kid shown above, but you must keep in mind you might not win that kid. This isn't a personality contest; all winners will be rolled among all entries. If you get a kid that doesn't fit your personality, you are more than welcome to change their identity entirely and stash away your written concept for later or even a quest!

If there are more entries than kids, then we will begin giving out ~mystery kids~ that haven't been made yet. If there are more kids than entries, then the remainders will be held over for other events or games.

General Rules:
  • Don't plagiarize other users.
  • Don't edit your entry after the ending date.
  • Don't guilt trip others about their entries.
  • Don't guilt trip winners about what kid they get.

Entries open NOW and close at 11:59CST on Sept. 15th, 2020!

Prompts, Ideas, and Forms
________________________________

Below the two spoilers below, you'll find tools to help you on your task of building a concept that lives in this world. The first is for more freeform writers; if skeletons and guides just aren't for you, feel free to look at the questions we've asked as a jumping point for your creation. The second holds the character shell we've set up for people that just don't want to write several paragraphs; this is a more total character profile, and while it may result in fewer than 500 words, it will also require you to think about multiple aspects of the character's life and create a rounded idea.

Whichever path you choose, make sure to fill out the form at the very bottom - you'll need this to be able to win anything!

Where does your character live? Do they live in the nicer areas of the city, like the upscale Garden District? Do they live in the less affluent West Bank, or maybe they live on the Northshore outside of the city entirely? Maybe they eschew both and mostly live out in the surrounding swamps or down in brackish Plaquemines? Here is a (admittedly touristy) guide to the districts of New Orleans, and here's one for Northshore - but remember, our setting is over three decades in the future and in an alternate history universe, so feel free to play around - it's just for the feel of the places!

What does your character do? As a major tourist spot, NOLA has all sorts of professions available in entertainment and service, but don't forget - there's plenty of residents that live here year round, too. If you want a job with more local flavor, maybe consider something like a riverboat pilot, guiding boats safely in and along the Mississippi, or maybe a Gulf-coast shrimper or crabber? There's always room for tour guides and kitsch hawkers too, or maybe they just work at a Hot Topic and wish all the tourists would bugger off until next Mardi Gras? If you can dream it, you can probably find a place for it around the Big Easy - even fortune tellers and performance artists regularly make a living around Jackson Square!

What does your character enjoy? What kind of food do they like to eat? What are their hobbies, their passions? Do they like games, swimming, pontoon boating, drinking (a local sport), festival crawling... or do they just like to sit at home and watch television? What gets them through their day to day? What do they look forward to doing after a long, exhausting day?

Where did your character come from? Were they born in the area, or did they move in? Are they an Endless immigrating into human society, or a local human who's never left? Maybe they moved from across the country or across the world to live in such a famously colorful area? Do they like it where they are now, or would they rather be somewhere else?

Entry type: Character Shell
Entry:

Name: Tyler ( Tye )
Gender identity: Male He/Him
Race: Sanjari
Age: Young
Occupation: He is unemployed, living among the streets and alleys of New Orleans doing odd jobs and occasional crimes.

Level of education: He learned the ins and outs of the area by living among the people for the most part, adapting to their language and mannerisms by using his past knowledge of how to hunt and kill prey to mimic them. It's only been 5 years, of course, and he has much to learn still.
Hobbies: He doesn't have many hobbies, but he's always found the boats and such fascinating, so he'll often try to sneak onto them for a ride or try to go for a swim. If destruction can be counted as a hobby, he gets quite a bit of joy out of playing with fire and painting on random properties. As time passes he will find he has an odd infatuation with psychology, but as of now that's not present.
Pet peeves: Tye doesn't like it when people.. whine, to be frank. He isn't here to hear your sob story and you aren't here to hear his, now do you want the 'herbs' he's selling or are you going to run along before he gets hungry?
Favorite foods: He doesn't really like most foods, actually, whether that be human foods or the emotions they feast on. He will often tell others that if he didn't need to eat to live he probably wouldn't, it doesn't taste very good.
Favorite music genres: He likes orchestra type music, without words, just dissolving into the sound of a nice piano or a violin.
One deep secret: He doesn't have much he hides from the world, but there isn't a lot he shares either. One of the only things he could think of as a secret is why he chooses to live among the dingy streets, listening to conversations from people passing by for entertainment and scavenging day after day. He doesn't know if he could handle working a job like other Sanjari, commuting with people and strolling along their ranks. Not wanting to become a monster and devour is hard enough when you get close to people alone a few times a day, much less being surrounded by them. He doesn't want to snap.
Proudest moment: He'll never forget it, late at night, walking along the streets, fully aware that his kind weren't the only dangers that walked along these roads. Humans could be just as brutal, or, god forbid, one of his kind mistook him as an average human. He ducked out of sight into the darkness, he doesn't know what street, but he remembered hearing a snap as a human rushed by. Something in him clicked, he wanted to attack. He wants to eat. That human.. he could sense the fear and, even if he didn't like the taste of flesh, somehow his instinct made his mouth water. But, he didn't. Every bone in his humanized form begged to leap at the prey but he fought, and he fights this fight every day in a slow attempt to try and stand with the new generation of Sanjari against their instinct. Sometimes, though, nature beats nurture.

Three virtues: He's cunning, with a mind sharper than his teeth and a knack for wiggling his way out of everything. With a voice smooth as silk he could lie and trick his way wherever he pleased most the time, or, even better, bargain for good deals. He isn't the strongest, with a frail form most the time, but he's quick, able to hop from side to side, he always looks like he's bouncing on his toes, ready to jump and swerve. Lasty, he's determine as ever. Fighting with instinct and nature. He refuses to do anything he doesn't need to, and will always find a way to get things the way he thinks they should be.

Three flaws: To say.. it simply.. he's rude, a snappy young man who's never really enjoyed others company due to the previous stated and has become sour and bitter because of it. He refuses to display his emotions and can come off as a blank slate, with his eyes that always seem to be staring at something else, beyond you, or, maybe at nothing. Don't get me started on attachment issues. If, by some miracle, you gain his trust and he likes you, it's too late for you. The small ounce of instinct able to get it's way in this predators mind is to protect his prey, which has now translated to loved ones ( If any even exist ) and now you're trapped, stuck with a self loathing criminal who doesn't say he is.

History: He doesn't quite like talking about where he came from, but he'll make an exception this once. Tye was born into.. well, nothing special really for a Sanjari, an average clan that acted like the rest, traveling and traveling until they finally stumbled upon earth. He was primarily raised by the Sanjari he referred to as his mother, though whether Sanjari even have mothers who really knows, that's besides the point. He was raised to be just like the rest, a hunter, but also to protect and defend his 'mother'. It didn't take long to despise this work, as something in his blood burned with every person he took, and he couldn't tell if it was excitement or anguish in his mind. As more and more Sanjari began to speak up, cry out about their ways, he 'awakened' as he calls it. He didn't want to be apart of this clan anymore, he didn't want to needlessly defend this random Sanjari like it was his duty, and he didn't want to kill, as much as it had been embedded into his life and mind. So, he ran. And now he's here, no more than broken glass trying to put himself back together with glues made for wood.

Do you want to be eligible for a mystery kid? Yes
Entry type: Charecter Shell
Entry: (I am writing from vantage point of 5 but understand this may not be 100%)

Name:Rover Artemis
Gender identity: male Female
Race: Allios
Age: Young
Occupation: Pet Spy

Level of education: Artemis is new here, She has very little education, and only a basic idea of shapshifting.
Hobbies: napping Artemis has chosen to infiltrate a human household to gather pets information on the humans.
Pet peeves:empty food bowl Not getting to interact much with her own kind.
Favorite foods: The kind with real meat.
Favorite music genres: Rock and roll, 80's Glam rock
One deep secret: Artemis actually really loves her humans, even if they misgender her and call her Rover. Though she would never let another one of her kind in on the fact that she would protect them and does her best to seem business-like.
Proudest moment: Once her tiny human fell into the pool giant water hole and Artemis dove in and retrieved them. She got all the treats and pats that day.

Three virtues: Loyal- She would go to the ends of the earth for those she cares about. She would fight and protect anyone she attaches to.
Perceptive- She is very calculating and constantly has a good sense of her surroundings.
Agile- She is quick and she has sure footing, she can perform acrobatic moves that would baffle most.

Three flaws: Stubborn- Artemis will stick to her decision despite evidence of being wrong, she would rather be wrong than admit she was.
Bossy- Not only does she stick to her ideas she forces others to go along, she often wants to be in charge.
Conceded- She is the centre of the universe and everyone should treat her as such.

History: Artemis had quickly come to earth, he spent little time in the endless before making the decision that they needed more eyes on the inside. Finding her family was easier than she thought it would be, in her Allios form she looked much like a domesticated canine. She limped around a suburb for less than an hour when a little boy came upon her. The tiny human gave her pets and food as he led her back to his home.

Artemis remembered the little boy's cries as he clung desperately to her neck. "PLEAASEEE mommy PLEEASE can we keep him" Her eyes widened as she tried to pull away to look at the boy. Him? surely there was a mistake. The mother kneeled down to eye level with Artemis and her face softened. "what should we name him then?" Her eyes narrowed there it was again. She looked over herself she wasn't sure what male canines looked like but surely they could tell she was female. "Rover!" the kid called and the mother smiled and nodded. "Rover is fitting it suits him well" Artemis shook her head but the humans didn't seem to understand or care. The slid a red collar circle thing around her neck and smiled at her.

Mission Complete.

She has stayed with that human family for nearly a year now and has gotten used to her new name, though her kind would surely call her by the correct name. She didn't mind the silly humans, they didn't know any better after all.

Do you want to be eligible for a mystery kid? Yes!
Entry type: Character Shell
Entry: [Noting I am writing from the view of 7, but will adapt for any kid I get]

Name: Trinket
Gender identity: They/Them
Race: Elphyme
Age: Young
Occupation: Hoarder

Level of education: Trinket has been around Earth for the last 5 years. They are not particularly skilled with their Providence, instead focusing their intentions on understanding Humans and their ongoing. They're fairly street smart and seem to always know what the Humans are up to, but lack general education (such as advanced math, using their Providence, and even reading).
Hobbies: Junk collecting and trading and gossip spreading (of Humans)
Pet peeves: Being asked questions they have no interest in answering, people touching their stuff, and dogs. Anyone entering their junkyard that is of the Endless variety.
Favorite foods: Metal/junk -- yum! Gears especially
Favorite music genres: Anything sung by Humans.
One deep secret: Their friendship with the junkyard keeper's daughter. She's 5, and they've been fluttering around her since her birth. They're fond of her and often drop gifts when they can.
Proudest moment: Scaring off local creatures from "their" junkyard. It's theirs now!!!

Three virtues:
- Crafty: Trinket seems to always have something up their sleeve, and if they don't they will. It's hard to corner them! They also are often thinking ahead, considering their options in case of any scenario.
- Resourceful: They'll utilize anything to be of use. Trash? You mean their next project (or meal).
- Self-assured: They know their worth, whether you do or not, and they won't be put down. They don't need any reassurance.

Three flaws:
- Hyperfocused: Trinket has no care for anything not in their circle of hobbies and interests. They'll go out of their way even to dismiss things not aligning with their goals, which unfortunately has included things like learning maths, reading, and their own abilities (aside from shapeshifting, that one is fun for them). They focused all their attention on their hobbies, to the point they might even forget basic duties. They won't rest until their task is done.
- Moody: They have a temper and will show it. Stop touching their shit, go away, stop asking dumb questions. Trinket has very little patience.
- Selfish: Aside from the very very very small number of characters Trinket has bonded with they will usually prioritize themselves. You know you're special if Trinket actually goes out of their way for you.

History: Trinket came from Labrys, mostly out of boredom. Life was the same and they always knew what to expect. Honestly, their own kind annoyed them. Trinket didn't fit a lot of the standard aspects that make an Elph, but they were reluctant to verbally admit it. It felt like a defeat or slight of some sort, so when Earth became an option for them -- well, they took it.

They abandoned their life during a fit of uncertainty, something Trinket has never really had to deal with. Earth sounded new and exciting, and Humans were weird. Weird, fascinating, and kinda gross. They were into it, settling into the city with no problem. Like typical Trinket fashion, they avoided their community and looked for a home of their own. They found one in the form of a junkyard owned by a young Human couple. Trinket arrived the day they gave birth to their daughter and, sadly, the mother perished.

Curious about the child, Trinket often visited while settling in, eventually finding a soft spot for the blue-eyed doll-like child. As the years passed they revealed their true form to her, delighting in her interest in them and their gifts Trinket would provide.

Trinket has since become a local source of Human gossip, as well as a trader of junk scrap (if you have what they want!).

Name: Darling
Gender identity: They/Them
Race: Elphyme
Age: N/A
Occupation: Antique hunter/collector

Level of education: 3 and a half years before running off to peruse antique collecting/hunting
Hobbies:
Cleaning antiques- aside from collecting and trading them they enjoy cleaning them, seeing the old/dirty go to clean and refurbished brings them grate joy, a little hard work never hurt any elph!

Painting preferably water color- Occasionally they will find old pallets for paint and almost used up paint tubes from humans and will salvage them getting the full uses out of theses discarded objects making art they often give to humans they like or other endless.

collecting gems- they love shinny objects always becoming over joyed when they obtain marbles or metallic things. but Crystals and polished rocks or minerals are their joy above all other shinny objects.

sewing- when scavenging they tend to salvage and wash fabrics from old clothes and furniture, after a good sanitizing and a wash they will hand sew stuffed animals and clothing.

Pet peeves: repetitive sounds, (loud beeping/noises or other sounds) it often irritates or scares them.

Favorite foods: day old bread with cheese, Jambalaya,Beignets

Favorite music genres: soft jazz music calms them especially after they have been stressed out by noises or while working on projects, but they also enjoy

One deep secret: Despite now being a picky eater they enjoy day old bread with cheese a comfort food from when they first came to the human world and began scavenging to make a living for themselves, they first tried it while scavenging for food behind an orphanage. a child split their bread and cheese with them. it had become a favored food of theirs even tho that child is now grown and long gone.

Proudest moment: Finishing their first ever project, they revamped an old table lamp and used broken glass to make a stained glass table lamp.

Three virtues:
Honesty- they will always give their honest opinion weather it hurts another endless or human. they see lying as a form of lack of trust and bond. tho they don't create bonds with any human or non elph easily.

Three flaws:

Prideful- sometimes they can be to self indulgent, they pride themselves in their skills and smarts thou they may not have many years of education they prefer to go out their and learn it for themselves rather than anyone else, but sometimes they need help and this pride can be an issue.

persistence- They never back down when trying to sell/trade their antiques this often leads to them loosing out on a deal or gaining more than an item is worth. they mostly push this on endless or humans they do not like witch can often lead to them getting in to dangerous situations

Sensory overload- they become fearful or angry during loud obnoxious or repetitive sounds, causing them to mental shut down or lash out at who/whatever is making the sound. this is due to having sensitive ears and trauma surrounding noises

History:

After a couple years in the endless world, they decided to fallow their own path much like some of the other Elph. They had grown tired of their world wanting to see and try new things, they longed for the taste and sights of the human world. Upon arrival they where met with all kinds of sounds as they landed near Gentily as a jazz fest was taking place, the instruments and drums where so loud that it became unbearable. using a glamor to hide and observe they made their way threw and further away.

upon miles of travel hiding in nooks and crevices they began to doubt their stay here on earth among the humans. soon they took refuge in houses hiding during the day and only coming out at night to eat what the humans have left out, but it often led to them getting chased away or hit with brooms as the humans at the time had no idea who they where.

Eventually as time passed they settled down near an orphanage scavenging for food and things to trade from a near by dump site. one day a child came across them, and offered to share their food with them so they didn't have to eat leftovers, it was day old bread and cheese, it became a routine, the kid would come visit, the elph would share lunch with them, and over time they became friends.

soon the elph went home with the child to the orphanage and stayed there for quite some time, the kids all where over joyed to meet this little elph and soon they all began to dress up the elph and play with them and share food from their meals with them, the children named them Darling, though it wasn't the elphs given name they loved it all the same.

however one day Darling went off to scavenge, wishing to find the perfect gift for the children of the orphanage. it took them a week before they had returned. only to find out most of the children that they had known where gone, Adopted. Though they where over joyed it was bitter sweet. the children now had families some leaving new Orleans others drifting far from where the orphanage was.

over the years darling made toys from scrap fabrics for the children at the orphanage., blankets even so they can stay warm at night or find comfort from a night terror. Darling has drifted further and further away over the years to hide from the pain of lousing another friend.

Now Darling Resides between 3 mainly in the art district. they spend their time antiquing and trading for new fabrics and old close even, so they can feed themselves and still leave little gifts for kids all over new Orleans in orphanages.

Favorite music genres: Southern soul and church hymns, tends to hang out to listen to choirs and critique ladies hats.
One deep secret: She is very fond of children and will lead them back home when lost.
Proudest moment: When she broke into a mansion and swiped a strand of peacock pearls.

Three virtues: Patience, Confident, Curious

Three flaws: Petty, Over indulgent, Jaded

History: Kennedy been on Earth for her entire life and it is what she knows. She thinks the Queen is alive and occasionally leaves offerings to her in places she suppose to be. Mostly pieces of jewelry she no longer feels a connection to. She grew up with her family and friends and she tends to keep up with the local swap mart to trade her pieces for new more interesting things. And then there is Lan... She had never seen someone other before. And he is dangerous and clever and she should tell someone maybe but he also young and confuse and she might have...

helped him out a few times and gotten help in return. In the bloody and murdery way that Lan.. helps anyone. It is fine.

Really... she pretty sure they deserved it and it wasn't her gut reaction to take out her anger on them for reasons.

Entry type: Character Shell
Entry:

Name: Tabbas
Gender identity: Male
Race: Allios
Age: Adult (though he acts like an old man)
Occupation: Teacher/Chicken Noodle Connoisseur

Level of education: Tabbas has a moderate education, he knows how to blend in and loves manipulating the humans to give him free "food". He was mostly taught by his mentor? if you could call them that, they were not particularity perturbed if Tabbas showed up injured and barely taught him the basic skills to be a proper "dog". Since his mentor was such a shitty bastard and he has carved himself a place here within the last 4 years, he has turned to teaching the young. It is a must to keep the humans as dumb as possible, as the young pups stumble themselves other wise.
Hobbies: Feeding on emotions, casing dog parks for the unaware, and finding "students"
Pet peeves: Filthy hands of children, and children in general
Favorite foods: He LOVES Chicken Noodles
Favorite music genres: Classical
One deep secret: He once was found acting like a puppy and eating from a garbage can because it contained an empty can of his favorite food...
Proudest moment: Shape-shifting directly in front of a human child to scare it in sight of other humans, he didn't get caught, but he sure as shit scared the little bastard for touching him.

Three virtues:
Patience:
Tabbas knows when to sit still or when to "bark". He has been known to take on the most stubborn of students in teaching them basic skills needed to survive the humans.

Generosity:
Tabbas might not seem the type, but he will let you live with him and he will go out of his way to help those in need. But god help you if he finds out you didn't need his couch or food.

Honesty:
Tabbas will let you know his thoughts, be it kind words to the needy, or "GET OUT YE LITTLE SHITS" to the pests.

Three flaws:
Pride:
Tabbas is insanely prideful, he will gloat on his accomplishments, he will gloat on your accomplishments if he taught you a trick or two, he's all around an arrogant bastard.

Judgmental:
Tabbas is quick to judge based on first impressions, he will always remind you of your faults, even if it's a perceived fault on his side.

Gluttony:
Tabbas is always hungry, it doesn't matter if he downed a full can of is favorite chicken noodles. If he sees it he eats it.

History:
Tabbas grew up in a pretty big clan. He was the sixth child born to his parents, however, it was his mentor Tad that he truly grew up with. Tad was not the best teacher, nor parent as he would forget Tabbas existed. Tabbas followed Tad everywhere and would get in a lot of trouble because of this with the rest of the clan. He ended up on the human side of things after being kicked out of the clan with Tad. This was due to an unfortunate circumstance dealing with Tabbas not keeping his mouth shut in front of the right people and blabbing on Tad's black-market business. Tad attacked and abandoned Tabbas once their paws hit pavement leaving a nasty scar on Tabbas' neck. Tabbas swore to be a better mentor to the next generation, if only to teach them to keep their grubby mitts to themselves.

Name: Lafayette "Fay / Lay" Fontenot

Gender identity: Masc (he/him)

Race: Sanjaru

Age: Adult (mental equiv late 30s for a human)

Occupation: "Handyman" / "Problem Solver" (hitman, runner)

Level of education: ~3 years human exposure and integration

Hobbies: Gambling, especially card games, hunting, playing mind games, listening to blues, jazz, and bluegrass, being addicted to whatever his smartphone game flavor of the month is

Pet peeves: People trying to boss him around, people pointing out he has an unusual accent, extremely skinny targets (not as much to eat!) or targets that aren't frightened easily, how addicting smart devices are

Favorite foods: Humans! Way better than any Endless and the physical bodies are a bonus when he's in the mood.

Favorite music genres: ... blues, jazz, bluegrass.

One deep secret: He plays a lot of things on his phone, but he's been consistently addicted to the same absolutely adorable farm game for like two years. He's level 150 or something.

Proudest moment: Finally negotiating a semi-regular schedule of work with a local wanna-be mob boss. It wasn't the most glamorous group, but it meant he was getting better at human communications - and he didn't even have to get rid of any botched witnesses that time!

Three virtues:
Efficient: If Fay agrees to get something done, it'll get done. He may give off an air of ease and seem to have a laissez-faire attitude, but he is nothing if not dependable. Given his occupation, it's worth noting that he's very good at getting things done in a good manner as well - no witnesses, no survivors.

Personable: ... for a sanjaru, anyway. That counts, right? Fay has picked up on the mores of "southern hospitality" very quickly. He knows just when to smile, to laugh, and the sorts of things to say to put people at ease - though some people have unknowingly joked about his serial killer charm, since every now and then, despite his best efforts, someone finds him entirely off-putting. Oddly, those people are usually the ones shortly missing in his life. Odd, isn't it?

Adaptable: Perhaps simply part of his nature as a predator, he's fairly adaptable to new and unusual situations. From being one of the earlier examples of full-integration sanjaru to finding a place in the world that suits his tastes and needs, Fay is flexible when making his situation work for him. It's hard to catch him entirely off guard, and even harder to keep him that way.

Three flaws:
Short tempered: Despite the pleasant front, Fay has an extremely short fuse. He's easily angered by things he gets frustrated with, and quick to lash out if someone upsets him. He has no problem bringing those altercations to a physical level, either, and indeed has gotten into quite a few fights with humans that have ended very badly for the other party.

Obstinate: Once Lafayette has set his mind to something, it's very difficult to change his mind. Even if plans and circumstances change around him, even in the midst of adapting to new challenges, he is going to do and think what he wants to and you are not going to change his mind.

Covetous: What he can't have, he wants, and it eats at him until he can. Whether it be a shiny macguffin or the affections of someone he finds appealing, Fay will brood over things that are unobtainable; even if he tries not to, it often becomes the focus of a festering boil, leading to him going out of his way to try and get what he desires - no, needs.

History: Lafayette was brought into existence about a month and a half after his clan settled at the window to Earth. He has known no life beyond that in the Endless, and as such really considers the Void to be an utterly boring place. The stories he's heard of other worlds and places fall on deaf ears, as he finds much more fascination in the bright and exciting world of the physical realm. Like the others born after the settlement, he was kept from passing through the gate until he proved himself a capable individual; even then, little was still known about humanity as a whole, so he's spent the past three years studying and learning from the odd creatures in an attempt to delve deeper into the benefits their society offers.

He is one of the earliest sanjari to be born with a natural human form, lacking any transition period into it, and he is also one of the earlier "camp splits" among the clans. He thinks that viewing humanity as nothing more than livestock is a damnable waste of wisdom and resources, and even if he views himself as a higher being, he very much enjoys everything their society has to offer.

Name: Bastiel (Bas) Gent
Gender identity: male
Race: elphyme
Age: adult
Occupation: garbage collector baker

Level of education: "Enough"

Hobbies:
playing video/mobile games, drinking, gambling, sleeping in late (and not alone), eating, eating, eating.

Pet peeves:
people that spit, idiots that look down on him for his size or shape, and jackasses that think they know better - they don't.

Favorite foods: literally anything as long as it includes the Trinity ... and I do mean *anything*

Favorite music genres: jazz, blues, bluegrass, classical, jump jivin' and rockin' around the clock

One deep secret: Bas is incredibly self-conscious about his height in comparison to his peers. Small men need to use big words in his world.

Proudest moment: Getting his first souffle to table without falling.

Three virtues:
Honesty: Brash, loud, and potentially obnoxious - say what you might about Bastiel but you will always know where you stand.

Leadership: Bas didn't get to be in the position he's truly in by being meek; sure, he acknowledges ranking, but if some poor smuck is under him they're going to know all about it.

Jovial: The gift of making people laugh isn't lost on this elph, and despite his inner-seated feeling about his size, he'll even make fun of himself if it edges him toward his goal in some way.

Three flaws:
Lech: Yeah, he can be a bit of one; lax and lazy when he's had enough, even worse if paired with partners he *doesn't* want to get rid of ... which isn't really a problem until you're strung out enough to forget your orders.

Elph: It's a boon and a flaw rolled into one; the flaw part wins when Bas can't properly integrate into society. Quite a challenge.

Theatrics: There are times Bas tends to go overboard in his decisions or soliloquies. He thinks out loud when something particularly puzzles him, flitters around when he's lost in thought; all things said he acts a bit foppish and sometimes, when you aren't *exactly* at the top of a gang of "hardened brutes" that isn't for the best for popularity or clarity.

History:

Bas doesn't share his history with just anyone - or anyone, really. Something about ... all that matters is the now, right? He's got his partner, he's got his connections, and where he came from isn't anyone's business but his own.

Entry:

Name: Scricchillio "Cronch"
Gender identity: male he/him
Race: sanj
Age: young (teenage-ish)
Occupation: Treacherous beast

Level of education: 3 months
Hobbies: scaring people, stargazing, fishing
Pet peeves: people just shoving through the woods not following paths, littering,
Favorite foods: toes, nectarines, grapes,
Favorite music genres: Native, with lots of nature sounds
One deep secret: When he first started hunting around the nola area, he had found a couple in the woods. Determined to make sure he got the both of them, he'd arranged himself so perfectly. All set to go on the attack and rend them limb from limb, he'd tripped over his own tail and rolled face first down the hill into the midst of them. One had kicked him and the other had hit him with some sort of basket. Startled by the lack of fear and the abrupt motions, he'd fled as fast as his legs could take him.

Proudest moment: The moment he'd graduated from "school" learning to deal with humans. No longer being watched every moment because they didn't trust him enough to not kill everything.

Three virtues:
-Scricch doesn't like to lie. Not to himself and not to others. It makes it harder to stomach certain things, but he never has to think about what he told them the last time and make sure things match up.
-Scricch likes to share. An odd trait for one such as things, but he enjoys sharing the rewards of his hard work and letting others take part in his various schemes.
-Scricch is what Scricch is. He doesn't want to change himself or try to be anyone else. He's good enough for himself.

Three flaws:
-Scricch finds it hard to interact with humanoids in a friendly manner. This makes it difficult to fit in with the rest of his clan when they decide to swarm the place in search of one thing or another.
-Viciousness comes easy and fast to Scricch. He enjoys mauling his poor victims, not that there have been many yet. Fear tinges the meat with just the right amount of flavour that he needs to feel truly fed.
-Scricch obsesses over details a little too much. He wants things to be just so when he's committed and when things don't go exactly as planned he abandons it.

History:

Scricchillio wandered the endless for not as long as some. His clan was on the smaller side and came upon a portal by accident. Going through it had been one of the best things that happened to them. Plenty of food and enough space for them to spread out, they'd had to let some of the other clans teach them about the new humans and various flora and fauna in the area. As soon as he'd had enough learning, he'd split from the group to haunt the swamps around the area. Enough visitors went through that he never went hungry and he got to enjoy the stars more than if he stayed in town. Human form wasn't something he was much interested in, though he would occasionally indulge in scaring those late at night with it. His latest home in the swamp has been overrun with various things and he's seeking a better spot with a view.
