(Thymeswirl misses his attack on the fox!)

It was meant to be a quick hunt. He'd asked Walker to come with him, because she was available, but now that he was facing down the jaws of a snarling fox, Thymeswirl found himself wishing that he had thought to bring other cats. He'd gotten so confident lately - there hadn't been any patrols who reported scenting foxes nearby the territory and he'd grown so much since Aspenswirl and he went out alone on that horrible patrol that marked his mentor's death.

Thymeswirl had gotten out of that one alive, but now, he wasn't so sure. He thought of his parents back at camp, thought of his brother and of Fennelkit and... he thought of Fennelfur, the pretty she-cat that he'd liked when he was an apprentice and had only grown closer with since his mentor's - her father - death. They'd mourned together for moons after it had happened and now.... well, he wasn't sure if Fennelfur was ready to call them mates, yet and if he died today, maybe it wouldn't matter. Or maybe it would further traumatize the beautiful she-cat - he couldn't do that to her, couldn't do it to his mother who had already lost one kit.

Glancing at Walker, he tried to look brave in the company of his Clanmate.
"O-Okay. Let's defend our Clan, try to drive this thing off. But if it gets too much, we climb the closest tree and wait for it to leave. It's not worth risking our lives over." He mewed, before gulping his fears down hard and swiping defensively at the fox - and missing terribly.
@Blinded By Silence (And that's all the patrols I can whip out tonight. xD)

Oddly enough, Walker was also thinking about Fennelfur as she stood tall and steady as the russet beast bared its fangs at them. Those two sure had been spending a lot of time together, and, normally, there'd be this little ball of anger sitting in her belly when she thought about that. But right now? She was relieved.

Fennelfur was a soft cat, sweet and kind, but very, very soft. She was all fluff and smiles and worrying about everyone but herself. The little she-cat couldn't handle standing up to her brat of a sister, no way she could hold her own against a fox.

"You got it, kid. Let's go." There was no fear in Walker's eyes as she quickly took the offensive. Long, powerful legs meant for travel stretched as she bolted and leaped onto the thing's back, burying her fangs into the back of its neck.

(The fox misses it's attack on Walker!)

The fox was hunting when it came across the scent of cat - not its preferred prey, but well enough it supposed. It wasted no time in trying to snap at one of the cats, the ginger female, only for its attack to miss - well, there would be more opportunities and it wasn't going give up just yet.

(Thymeswirl hits the fox for 5 damage!)

Thymeswirl's tail was even bushier than usual, fur standing on end and his ears back in a hiss. He tried to keep light on his paws, avoiding the attacks of the fox by moving any time that it did, but the fox was fast. Luckily, it seemed, he was just as swift because he was able to get up close to the snarling beast, slash his claws deep into its side and then bound away, back towards his fellow patrol mate. Glancing at Walker, he saw the fox lunge forward to snap at her and his breath caught - only for him to give a brief sigh of relief - the attack didn't land.

There was no time to bask in his relief, he had a fight to continue. Turning his attention back to the fox in question, he hissed again, keeping his eyes trained on it.

As the fox writhes beneath her, its near-fluid furry body bucking as it lunges after Thymeswirl. Her claws fail to latch on and she slips, landing in the scree with a thump that knocks the air out of her. Wheezing, she spends her turn getting back to her paws.

(The fox hits Thymeswirl for 3 damage!)

The fox turned its head to the cat who had gotten its claws into its flank. The ginger female forgotten, the fox advantaged forward to the male and managed to, just barely, catch him across the face with a blow from one of their clawed paws.

(Thymeswirl hits the fox for 5 damage!)

Thymeswirl hissed in pain as he was knocked away, unable to call for aid as the blow left his head throbbing. It wasn't enough to keep him down. The fear of failure, of not returning home to his loved ones, of never seeing Fennelfur or Sorrelpaw and his parents, allowed him the energy and strength to push up from the ground and attack the fox again. He caught its shoulder and felt a new sort of satisfaction when he saw the blood splatter on the ground - blood that didn't belong to him or to Walker who fought beside him.

"I'm okay!" He called to Walker.
"How're you holding up? I know we can defeat this fox, together!"

As the fox turned away from her, Walker could have taken the opportunity to catch her breath. Probably would have been smarter. But Walker wasn't known for her brains, but her tenacity. Her inability to give up. And so, once she got a single solid breath drawn into her lungs and yowled. She leaped once again, throwing her weight into its flank, her claws tearing fur and flesh!

Oh, so both cats wanted to play hard to get, did they? Well that didn't stop the fox from rounding on the female cat again, swinging a paw out to try and buffet it away so it could focus on one at a time. Two at once, that was definitely trickier, but this fox wasn't going anywhere! Not when it had an empty belly it was determined to feed!

(Thymeswirl misses his hit on the fox!)

"Walker!" Thymeswirl yowled, seeing the fox moving forward to strike her. He made a frantic swipe of his claws at the fox's tail as it passed him, but he couldn't reach it. He followed closely behind the fox, trying to catch up to his Clanmate, but he had to swerve out of the way of the fox's hind paws that he wasn't taking damage, but that also meant he wasn't catching up as fast as he would've liked. "Hang on!" He tried to call out ahead. "I'm coming!"

The ginger she-cat's battle cry is cut short as the fox's teeth meet in her pelt and she is thrown back into the dirt. She feels blood ooze into her fur, darkening it with deep red. She lets herself roll and uses the momentum to get to her feet. Walker runs at the thing boldly, sinking her teeth deep into the beast's shoulder as she latches on to it once more with her claws. Pulling back, she spits blood and fur, "And they call these things clever!"

Fox misses its attack on Walker!

Hounded by the cat on its heels, the fox was amply distracted when it tried to make a grab at the female it was pursuing, only to trip over its paws and spend its next precious moments standing back up and reorienting itself, rather than attacking again.

Thymeswirl 7HP

Thymeswirl hits for 5 damage!

Thymeswirl saw his opportunity when the fox tripped over its own paws and came crashing down where he could reach it. Launching himself off the ground, he landed on the fox's back and climbed, claws rending fur from flesh and opening skin apart wherever they found purchase. His nose wrinkled at the foul smell of the fox, but he looked triumphant as he managed to stay on and do damage to the creature he clung on to.

"Ha! Didn't expect that, did you, you mangy animal?!" He yowled his taunts, adrenaline making his energy burst and his confidence rise despite the circumstances.

Walker feels the fox trip and start to fall. She fights to release her hold on the fox's stinky pelt and gets promptly squashed. She spends her turn wriggling out from under the smelly beast. Once free, she leaps back a moment, shaking blood from her fur, "Good shot, fluffball! Now do it again!"

Fox misses its attack on Walker!

The fox tried to shake off the assailant on its back, but when that proved fruitless, it rushed to attack the cat who remained on the ground instead. It should've been easy, but with claws poking into its back and flanks, it missed its attack on the cat in front of it and snarled. Fine, it would focus on the one on its back, since it was causing so much fuss to the fox's endeavors to gain its lunch.

Thymeswirl 7 HP

Thymeswirl hits the fox for 5 damage!

Thymeswirl couldn't keep his grip on the fox when it started to aggressively shake, it's skin seemed suddenly so loose! Thymeswirl did manage to get a final lasting swipe as he fell to the ground. His claws dragged across the fox's flank until he had to wrench his paw away. He tucked it close to his chest, licking aggressively around his claws and then placing it back down on the ground. His mother, Bone, could get that sorted once he returned back to camp.

Because he would return back to camp, the adrenaline surge had pushed that worry from his mind and now he was ready to work hard to ensure that both he and Walker got out of this one alive and well. There was no other option.

Battle Notice!

The enemy fox is at half its HP or lower! You may now choose as a group whether you wish to proceed with this patrol and fight the fox until its demise, in which you run the risk of entering cats into a Death Raffle if their HP hits 0, but have the option of having any survivors be entered for patrol exclusive scars OR to chase off your enemy, which will ensure that no cat runs the risk of dying in this patrol.

Please vote below on whether you would like to continue the patrol at the risk of your cats

or

you would prefer to chase off your enemy.

If one person chooses to chase off the enemy, that will be the decided option.
