Mari whistled twice and the small bird came down to her shoulder and snuggled up next to her cooing to her neck. In a short time it was nibbling at her barrette. “Now, now. Enough of that.” She chided it gently tapping it with a hoof. She had been training comfort animals and pets for a short time now but animals would still be animals at the end of the day and little birds liked to decorate their nests. She had a pair that were quite close to each other which made this little blue bird the odd one out. She kept it with her often so that it didn’t feel too lonely as budgies didn’t do well alone and would quickly start plucking at their own feathers and destroying their cadges. She was currently out shopping for a larger tank for one of her Lotus Turtles who was stacking sand up and trying to climb out of their current tank and they seemed to feel a bit cramped.

Mango had been traveling for a while. After the whole Changeling thing back home, and the fact that Cherry had lied to her for all those years, Mango felt the need to go out. Be on her own. Explore and find herself. She reflected on that day often, and after a while, had begun to understand why Cherry was so uncomfortable with revealing it at first. Mango herself had seen how some ponies reacted to the Changelings. Those who were at the festival when it happened were significantly more understanding. Others, however, weren't as much. She saw this as she traveled. And even though she had begun to think more like Cherry, and was on her way to forgiving him for lying for so long, Mango still wanted to find a home of her own. She had lived more than long enough with her family and her brother. Now it was time to focus on her.

As such, she had happened upon a town and their shopping area. She wasn't quite sure where she was, but she paused to rummage around in her pack to find some money for some food. Traveling as much as she did, it was hard for her to do what she normally did: farm. However, she had been able to find small jobs here and there as she went, ponies who needed help harvesting or who didn't know how to treat rotting produce. They would give her shelter, food, and sometimes even money for her help. Having found her little money pouch, Mango continued on, head held high to look for a stand. She was an incredibly tall pony as was, but her bangs sometimes prohibited her from seeing properly. Which was why she would walk as straight up as she could, looking down out of her bangs.

Stepping out of the store she wasn’t satisfied with the tanks in this store. Perhaps she would have to custom order one for pick up latter. She saw a large green pony moving down the street. It likely was hard to move with their bangs in the way like that. “Excuse me.” She called out to them. “Need a barrette?” She knew that pain only to well given her own wild mane. Her little blue budgie nibbled at her own barret again. “Oh little bird.” She used a wing to nudge the budgie again. Really they were very spoiled and liked to pester and distract if an area was crowded like in a store and were very fond of cooing and nuzzling. She was glad she kept the budgie with her but since she didn’t need the distraction it could be quite annoying at times. Still she had trained them so the fault was her own. Fishing a spare clip from her jacket she offered it out to the other pony. “I care a few spares. Sorry it’s the same as the one I’m wearing but I tend to stick to just one style.”

The alicorn smiled at the other pony thinking they looked a little worse for the wear. Was there something they were after here shopping? The little budgie trilled happily and began to nuzzle her gently. “I’m Mari, and this little noisemaker doesn’t have an official name yet but I’ve been calling them Blue Song.”

As Mango roamed the streets, moving from store to store to find something interesting, she heard a voice. Slowly, she turned towards it, realizing whoever it was, they were trying to get her attention. It was an Alicorn, which immediately made Mango bow her head respectfully, before noticing the blue budgie on their shoulder. A smile spread across her face at the little blue bird. "Oh, that is mighty kind of you," she said gently, lifting a hoof shyly to take the barette. It was cute, and would certainly help if she could get her hair to stay up. Mango attempted to fiddle with one side of her bangs, trying to pull them back to pin with the barette.

"Ah, I was hoping to find a produce store. I've been travelling for some time, and really would like to get some food for the day," she hummed, her stomach rumbling to accentuate her words, causing her cheeks to flush. "Normally I could deal with it on my own, but I'm very far from home and my farm. And I do not have much coin left." She stopped fiddling with the barette -- it was frustrating her -- and shook her money pouch for the other pony to hear. Only a handful of coins. "Do you know of somewhere I can get something a little cheaper?" She tilted her head when the other pony introduced themself, before she dipped her head again. "Ah! Sorry! My name is Mango. Mango Lemonade. It is nice to meet you, Mari, and you, little one," she said, turning to smile at the budgie again. Ever since leaving home, Mango had been able to better conduct herself in conversations, though primarily only about things like produce or work. She was still very shy and did not like talking much about herself yet.

Considering how often she was out with Kris and the pair were well known in the area the bow surprised her. She never really thought much of that. She would much rather see a pony eye to eye when possible than have them bow and act as if she was an unapproachable pony. The smile when the other pony saw the budgie made her feel more at ease. Anyone who liked pets was alright with her.

So the pony was after food for the day? Well she supposed it was true that it was easier to make a meal with food from the grocery even if it didn’t always seem as appetizing as fast food. She pretended to not hear the stomach. Seeing the pony fumble with the hair barrette she gave a soft smile. “Hold on a moment Let me help.” Reaching she held back the pony’s hair to reveal a dazzling set of eyes. They seemed very kind if a bit timid. She nodded hearing the coin pouch. Traveling could be rather hard. “mm well usually it is a bit easier to get a meal in the smaller farms outside of town if you put in some work as there are few who would be willing to let another starve, but here in the town it can be a bit harder. Mmm Tell you what. If you help me with my pet training for the day I’ll treat you to a meal and show you a few decent places to sleep if you need one.” She knew a few cheap hotels and apartments if the pony was saying a short or long period of time. The budgie chirped when the coins jingled and it’s small feathers puffed up. The Alicorn stroked it softly while giving her offer.

Mango's cheeks flushed again as the Alicorn grew closer. She was stunning, and Mango suddenly felt significantly shyer with her hair pulled back out of her face. She felt exposed. But at least she could see now...

"Pet training?" she asked, tilting her head slightly. "Oh, well, I don't really know much about animals, other than how to keep them out of the crops... But I can try," she said softly, giving a little half smile. "What kind of help do you need?" She moved a little closer to the other pony, reaching up a hoof towards the budgie, as if asking if she could pet it. It was a cute little thing, and a lovely shade of blue.

“Well part of the training is for pets to get along with other ponies besides me. It is great if they like me but the whole point is for them to get used to others.” Seeing the other pony reach out Mari smiled widely and shifted for the budgie to hop over if it wanted to. The gentle warmth of the other pony and the new hair clip might be enough bait for it to head over if the pony would be accepting. “This little one is training to be a companion. They can’t really say to much yet but they are quite loving. There might need to be some scolding if they go after shiny things of course. Could you carry them around and pet them and keep them from getting into trouble while heading about with me? This way we can show them a more active environment and help teach what they can and cannot do.” it was an important part of training and with the bad luck of finding a new tank for Lotus Turtles she might as well make this a fruitful trip. That and she was working on a plan to help take care of this pony in front of her who while happy now seemed like a scared inu, which made it impossible for Mari to leave her alone.

Listening closely, Mango nodded along slowly. Her eyes remained on the budgie, smiling as it hopped towards her hoof, chirping at her. "Hello little one," she said softly, lifting the little bird up towards her shoulder where her pack rested. "You can sit right here, okay? And if you behave, perhaps I'll give you a treat or two." She wondered what budgies actually liked. She always focused more on keeping birds away from crops, and less on actually caring for them. Not to say she didn't like animals, though.

"I will do my best, Mari," she said sheepishly, ducking her head in acknowledgement. This pony was very sweet and friendly, it helped Mango ease a little out of her shyness. The little blue budgie definitely helped, too. A small chirp was offered, to which Mango glanced back and smiled, lifting a hoof to gently pat its head.

Mari watched the little budgie for a moment or two longer to make sure it didn’t cause trouble for the other pony. After all it was still in training. “Good. Looks like they like you.” She actually blinked feeling a small tingle in the back of her neck. This often happened with pets when she knew a pony would do well with that kind of pet. Still she wouldn’t force a pet on someone. After all it took time and a lot of work to own and care for a pet and if the pony wasn’t ready it wouldn’t do any good. Smiling she waved a wing. “First lets swing by a food stall and grab a snack before checking the other shops. This way we can get an eye on if they are a glutton or can hold back when near food.” She winked playfully to the earth pony. “Don’t worry. If anything happens you have me around to help you out."
