Wild Skies looked on lazily as he noticed the darker clouds start to roll in just as the sun was starting to set. It looked like it was going to be somewhat large, but nothing to worry about at least. He was currently under a tree on the edge of a cliff, but he had mentally marked out several other places that could be used for shelter in case this one decided to shoot out lightening.
He had flown most of the day, and had found this spot to rest his wings in, thinking of staying under it for the night, though with the clouds rolling in, he would probably have to find better shelter at this point. He did want to watch it first. He wasn't too crazy about storms, or at least flying in them since they posed too much of a danger, but he had done it several times when his sister had decided to go and battle some lightning enemy or go against a thunder dragon or whatever. Somehow she always managed to find the most dangerous and hardest to beat enemies and he had always been dragged in. He could have sworn that she was doing it on purpose.
Just as he settled underneath the tree a bit more, he thought he saw... something flying toward the clouds? He wasn't too sure, but if there was someone who was going to go up in there, then he had to make sure that they were safe. He wouldn't be able to live knowing that he could have done something to save them if he was able to.
With a sigh, he jumped off of the cliff and glided a bit before moving his wings to carry him up to where he saw the pony or thing fly into...
Grinning, Storm Chaser flew head on into the rolling storm clouds. It was only just beginning, small rumbles of thunder going off here and there as she rolled lazily through the clouds. No need to get too crazy just yet. From the feel of it, this storm could ramp up into one that produced lightning. She sure hoped it would. That would be even better. As Storm Chaser paused midair, flapping slowly to keep herself in one place, she took this quieter moment to fiddle with some things.
Her mask was pulled down over her muzzle, a pair of goggles pulled over her face as well. These would keep her vision and breathing clear as she flew, enabling her to keep a clear head even through the rush of adrenaline. Then, she fiddled with her pack, making sure that all of Mariposa's equipment was safe within the confines. The little pony had learned how to package their equipment so that it would not attract lightning, especially since Storm Chaser would be going straight into storms. Last thing that pony needed was anything metal for the lightning to hit. All her trinkets were either plastic or lined with rubber, keeping them well insulated and safe from such things.
A loud crack of thunder resounded through the cloud, bringing Storm Chaser's attention to her surroundings once more. Off in the distance, she could see the starting flickers of lightning. Good.
As Skies got closer, he could tell that the other pony was definitely going into the cloud with a purpose. They went straight in, no fear of danger, which was slightly interesting, but this storm looked bad. Bad enough that there might be a lot of lightning and thunder, something a pony didn't want to be caught up in.
But this other pony went straight in and Skies could tell the pony was up to... something. He just wasn't sure what it was, but stayed within distance to be able to keep an eye on them, just in case anything happened. He did not want another pony falling out of the sky on his watch!
He could hear the thunder already, and was sure the he had seen the telltale flare of lightning, meaning that they didn't have much time until the storm became exceedingly dangerous.
A flicker of lightning in the distance, high in the clouds. Storm Chaser could feel her blood boiling in anticipation. She was excited! It had been quite some time since she got to fly a storm like this. One final check to her bag. It was fully secure on her, wrapped under and across her chest. Her wings continued to flap to keep her in place as she prepared herself.
The thunder got louder...
The lightning grew closer...
Large raindrops burst from the clouds...
When a lightning strike lit up the entire sky, she let out a cry of delight and shot straight upwards into the clouds. Her front legs were stretched out in front of her, making her a bit more streamlined and harder to hit all spread out instead of being balled up. She grinned beneath her mask, bolting upwards, before doing a sharp turn and rocketing downwards. Storm Chaser spun as she did so, cackling madly as she barreled through the clouds.
Skies had been a bit behind making sure that the other pony wasn't having any trouble. It didn't seem like they were though. They seemed to be delighting in the weather actually! "Well, as long as they're okay..." He muttered to himself as he saw another flash of lightning before a loud boom. How anypony could stand to be near such a sound willingly was beyond him. Perhaps they didn't have any hearing left so it didn't matter? That was the only way he felt as though he could enjoy such a noise.
He leisurely followed behind, keeping track of what the clouds were doing and trying to find the nearest shelter as the storm had started to move away. If he did have to get to a safe spot then he needed to scout one out before something really bad happened!
