  • Surprise: A breeding where one (or more) shop pony is put up to breed with a character not made or owned. All children will resemble a mysterious, unknown parent in some way.
  • Mixer: All characters entered will be placed in a pool to RNG or selectively CC with another character. You won't know who your character will breed with until the end of the event. Usually, these breedings are OOC.
  • Regular: Characters are entered with other characters. A standard breeding.
  • Corrupted: A breeding during the corrupted season, which sporadically occurs. Offspring might have traits, colors, and even breeds unrelated to their parents.
  • RLC: A breeding purchased via RLC slots, which are hosted by Tea or Nym.
  • Companion: A breeding between companions!

While not all breeding rounds will be the same, there are a few rules that will always be present. It's important to get familiar with these rules before pursuing a breeding.
If a player is completely unreachable during the homing process and there are logged attempts to reach them (DMs and Basilisk Stew messages), the active players may- and should -reach out to staff for assistance.

  • All breedings are magical in nature
    Pregnancy does not exist within the world, and ponies don't have to be physically intimate (or even near each other) for the magic to decide to mix ponies together.
  • Your pony must be an adult and certed correctly.
    Incorrect certs will disqualify the pony from breeding, so double check everything is right!
  • Related ponies cannot breed.
    Those genetically related cannot breed, regardless if an IC or OOC breeding. Their magic simply won't mix.
  • There is no limit to what breeds or gender can breed together.
    Be free!
  • Players can only keep 1 basket for non-RLC breedings, but can keep as many as wanted for RLC breedings.
    The appropriate charm- breeding charm, earned via
    Activity Points -can be used during a non-RLC breeding in order to keep more than one.
  • Every breeding with more than 1 player involved needs a breeding permission written up and linked to.
    Once a breeding is successful, another agreement will have to be written if the players wish to breed again.
  • Once a breeding is dropped, all players involved must utilize the first pick rolls thread to decide the order of homing baskets, and then log who took home what within the claim thread.
    RLC and staff credit breedings can skip the first pick roll thread but still must utilize the claim thread to log their final decisions.
  • Mockbreedings are not allowed.
    All breedings are official and connected to their parents.
  • All breedings must be obtained from official breeding slots and cannot be obtained via custom slots.
    Official breedings will have a special breeding image of all the baskets grouped together and are dropped in the official drop gallery.
  • Breedings will not begin their growth process until all are claimed.
    Please contact staff if a claimed breeding hasn't begun its growth process in 30 days.

All reproduction within Everchange is magical in nature, regardless of the intimate relationship that is or isn't present between parents. In fact, pregnancy doesn't even exist in the world and will earn you horrified stares if mentioned. All ponies, regardless of the stage they're dropped as, start as foals within the world and are created from the eternally mysterious magic of Everchange fumbling around with the genetics of other ponies. Foals are dropped randomly, with some placed near their parents while others are scattered somewhere else in the world. It's, honestly, a whole issue in itself, but the world has done its best to counteract Everchange's temperamental magic by funding orphanages in every corner.
Ponies will typically, in character, grow from a foal into an adult over the years, but there are age-influencing fruits that will accelerate a child's aging process (both physically and mentally). Some foals are just a little different, remaining children for the entirety of their lives and consequently named permafoals. Regardless of the growth process, all ponies share the magic of Everchange as both their origin and what makes them a pony.


Breedings are split into two categories for shop purposes; in-character (IC) and out-of-character (OOC). While both breedings are created by the parent's magic mixing together and combining into children, the labels clearly define where the foals end up. IC breedings mean the parents are fully aware of their breeding, while OOC breedings have absolutely no clue about their children and never will, as the magic that makes a pony completely resists any parentage or ancestry testing. OOC breedings are still true breedings, and thus will be noted as related to their parents and siblings.


There are very few limitations for breedings, as neither breed nor gender stops ponies from breeding. However, ponies genetically related cannot breed, regardless if they're from an IC or OOC breeding. The magic just won't mix related ponies. Ever.


The magic that makes up Everchange is... everchanging, which can result in periods of instability and wreak havoc when creating new life. It's almost as if the magic corrupts, as everything powered by or from it struggles to hold any semblance of normalcy and often even rebels against its users. Breedings that occur during these rare times are wild in nature, adorning colors, markings, traits, and even whole breeds their parents lack entirely. These breedings are called corrupted breedings.


Some ponies were made with just a little more magic than others and have traits standard ponies don't. These traits are called curiosities and are a common subject of interest within the scientific side of Everchange.


Those with multiple traits from differing breeds are considered hybrids. They can share their various breed abilities, but the magic is always weaker.

Up to 4 ponies can breed together. The number of kids is based on the parents, but each player can still only keep 1 basket by default. The proper charm can change this number.


Basket [1 week] -- > Foal [2 weeks] -- > Adult

Players can choose to skip the foal stage and go from basket to adult instead, but they'll still need to wait 2 weeks for their growth.
Adults will typically remain as such forever unless requirements are met for ascension (the system is currently undergoing rehauling and isn't available).
Permafoals will not grow past their foal stage.


Before you can enter a set of ponies for breedings, players must use the breeding permission thread to log everyone's approval of their ponies being used. Players who own every parent involved can skip this step.



Players can enter in several locations for a chance at winning a breeding (artist threads, flash breedings, RLC, etc), but all breedings must be obtained from official breeding opportunities created and hosted by Everchange artists. Mockbreedings do not exist within the shop; all genetically related children must be obtained via proper breeding methods.


While artists may vary in when they expect payment, it is the player's responsibility to pay within the allotted period, otherwise staff will have to reach out. Artists reserve the right to cancel breedings not paid for on time.
All Basilisk Credit breedings are PWYW (pay what you want) based and can only be credits. Some artists might accept art or adopt trades within their personal artist threads, but currency of any sort that isn't BS Credits is forbidden.
RLC (real-life currency) breedings are limited to specific artists (Tea and Nym) and will be explained further below. Any under-the-table attempts to offer RLC will result in blacklisting.


Artists will use the breeding generator (linked in a post below) to roll breeding results and publicly post it within the #staff-rolling thread in the official Everchange discord.



Earned primarily through the AP system, charms can influence a breeding heavily. If a player wishes to use their charm for a breeding it must be noted in the appropriate section of whichever breeding form they're using before the breeding is selected. Charms cannot be added to the breeding in the case of a player forgetting to add it within the form, so make sure to triple-check forms!

This post is, quite literally, copy and pasted from the staff guide with minor tweaks to the language to properly make sense outside of its original setting.


Colors for kids should come directly from the parents, eyedropped from them preferably. It is also advised not to colorpick right next to lines or mid-gradient if possible, just to ensure an artist is getting the correct colors.
Colors may be taken from anywhere and used anywhere on the body. This includes hair!
Eye color can be any color at all, as real-life children don't always have the same color as their parents anyway!
Hair patterns do not have to exactly match their parent's patterns and have a little bit of wiggle room in the design.
Colors aren't mixed to make new ones. If there is a blue parent and a red parent, they can't make a purple child from that. Obviously, there is leeway for this for adding gradients as markings.
Color distribution is not as hard of a focus. Children still should look reasonably like their parents, as in colors come from somewhere on the body. Colors from smaller markings can now be used on larger parts of the body, allowing for more freedom.
Markings can combine, reasonably. A pony with hollow triangle markings can breed with another pony with solid stripes and make a child with hollow stripes and solid triangle markings.



Templated features do not need to exactly match those of the parents. This means if there is a dragon with templated ram horns, their child can have the templated twisted or templated nub horns. This is true for all breeds with various edits to choose from, including but not limited to; wings, horns, tears, lures, etc.
Additionally, parents without optional breed edits can result in children with optional breed edits; for instance, a parent with dragon horns can make a child without dragon horns, and vice versa.
Curiosities can be in different regions than the bred parents. A parent with goo feet mixing with someone with a leaf tail could make a child with leaf ears, or goo tail.
If a mystic parent has children with another mystic parent their curiosities can merge, within reason. For instance, one parent with unique draconic wings and another with unique fins could have a child with draconic wings shaped closer to the unique fins.
Kids can have lesser edit levels than parents (for super wild complex parents), but should all have relatively similar edit levels to the other children.



Please keep in mind some old line ponies may not fit the new breed features and mystic standards. In this instance, artists will need to breed the ponies as closely as possible to new rules.
If a pony is a breed that was changed, artists will roll them as what they visibly appear to be. A jellyfish "mer" will be rolled as a seabell, a lung "dragon" will be rolled as a ryujin, etc.
If a pony is listed as a mystic (or mutated) but their curiosity (mutation) would no longer be considered a curiosity, an artist will roll them as mystic anyway and give their mystic children a new, closely related curiosity to compensate. A kitsune with a furry Animal Morph chameleon tail would no longer be considered a mystic, for instance, so the artist could give the child extra body fluff as a replacement.
If a pony is listed as a hybrid but would no longer be considered one, an artist will roll them as a hybrid anyway. If they are uncertain what their breeds were and the owner is unable to tell them, they will put their base breed as the visibly obvious one and just select another from the other parent(s). For any hybrid children, they will use appropriate features from all rolled breeds present.

Companion breedings are fairly simple and are easily defined with a small list;
  • Companions can freely breed with any type of companion.
    Since all breedings are magical, any breed of companion can have babies.
  • Hybrid companions do not exist.
    All children will be one of the breeds of a parent.
  • Up to 4 parents can breed together.
    No more than 4 can be present as a breedings parents.
  • There will be as many companions made as there are players by default.
    Super simple! This may adjust depending on the theme of the breeding, if a charm is used, or if an RLC breeding. Regardless, there is a maximum of 6 babies allowed.
  • Players do not need to utilize the breeding permission, homing or claiming threads.
    Please don't force us to adjust this rule.

This is another guide basically copied from our staff guide for transparency's sake. The below guide is entirely focused on non-RLC breedings.
Every breeding will be handled by inputting information into the generator. The generator will decide the number of children, what breeds are present, and how used charms are activated. All breedings, unless otherwise specified or noted, will follow the generator strictly.
Every successful roll should be documented within #staff-rolling on the public Everchange Discord.



Up to 4 parents can breed together. The number of kids is based on the parents, but each player can still only keep 1 basket by default. The proper charm can change this number.
The max amount of baskets allowed in a breeding is 6. If a charm is used to add more baskets that limit still remains, so discuss with the customer which charm they're using and refund the others back to them.
If a customer uses several add basket charms, the generator will actually note what part of the roll was influenced by luck and what was the charm -- which means it'll tell the artist what charms to refund back to the customer since they were not used.
The generator will accurately tell the artist how many children to color, but for those who are curious, the numbers are:

Up to 3 breeds can carry from hybrid parents; those with more will carry their most 'obvious' breeds. The artist should choose the 3 most 'obvious' breeds for input. This does mean the 'lesser' breed edits will not carry. If there are more than 3 'obvious' breeds it is left up to the artist's discretion.
Hybrid parents can throw non-hybrid children, and in return, non-hybrid parents can throw hybrid children! Magic is weird.
For those curious about how the generator distributes hybrid traits: if all parents are hybrids, there is a 75% chance per kid to be a hybrid. If one or more parents are hybrids but not all, there is a 50% chance per kid to be a hybrid. If no parents are hybrids, there is a 25% chance per kid to be a hybrid.
Parents that are of the same breed will never have random parent/breed hybrids without being a surprise/corrupted breeding, so something like earth x earth will only have earth kids.



If you're curious about the numbers for mystic children, they are as: if all parents are mystic, then all kids will be mystic (100%). If one or more parents are mystic but not all, there is a 50% chance of mystic kids. If no parents are mystic, no kids will be mystic.



Once called rogue breedings, these breedings add a mystery parent into the mix. The generator will act as if a random breed is present, which may influence the resulting children. Random colors/markings will also join the breeding, although what they are is up to the artist.



If there are any awakened parents in the breeding, there is a 25% chance of an awakened kid. This number does not go up with more awakened parents involved, meaning they can throw non-awakened children. The generator will adjust if the awakened charm is added to the generator.



If there are any alicorns in the breeding, there is a 25% chance of an alicorn kid. This number does not go up with more alicorn parents involved, meaning they can throw non-alicorn children. The generator will adjust if the alicorn charm is added to the generator.



Charms will only be used if the RNG is unfavorable! If a breeding rolls full hybrids, the generator will return any hybrid charms, for instance.
Random breed charms and breed specification charms will not overwrite hybrids, so it's possible those will be rejected as well and refunded.
If a charm is used please remove it from their AP Journal. Let a staff member know if they forgot to!



It's possible for these chances to combine, so you could roll an awakened hybrid from non-hybrid parents, or a pure kid from two hybrid parents. Again, magic is weird, especially in Everchange.
