Adventurers

Thornapple had done his best to send word to all the warrens and to all the places he knew rabbits liked to congregate. Word always seemed to travel fast across Hopscotch, and he hoped this time wasn't the exception. His brother was still missing, and he needed help. As much help as he could muster. He'd waited as long as he could for rabbits to gather, and now it was time to set off once more. He hoped there'd be enough, but even if there wasn't he was ready. He'd save his brother no matter what.

He had instructed the rabbits to gather where the Tanglewood and Sunset Acres met, right at the edge of what was Luremire. It was a windy autumn day, occasionally whirlygigs landed at his feet. He didn't even track them. Now wasn't the time for games. It was the time for actions. He was ready to address the crowd.

"Rabbits of Hopscotch! Thank you for answering my call! Today we set out into Luremire to rescue the captives. This will be a dangerous mission, but together I believe we will succeed! Some of us have ventured deep into Luremire before, but this time we must go further. Now, there is no more waiting!" With that he turned and hopped towards the tangle of growth that he now knew was Luremire. He hoped others would follow.

Swamp Dwellers

Autumn is a time of bounty in Luremire. While much of Hopscotch begins to scramble for food Luremire feasts. Now is the time for crab apple harvest! Crab apples are a delicacy unique to Luremire and are often stored as a food source all winter! Most Luremire residents spend a good portion of their fall gathering these treats. Some others simply don't have a taste for crab apples or would rather others do the work ...

Bolete Participates in the harvest

Bolete loved harvest time, and was especially excited for mushrooms and crab apples! The leaves were turning, the days were shorter. She knew it was time! The apples had started falling from the scraggly trees around the swamp, they had to get them stored away before they got soft! She got up early and headed straight to her favorite tree, and sure enough, there were hard little apples scattered around the mossy ground.

Sage Follows Thornapple

Though he had practically just left Luremire himself, Sage was fully ready to head back in. He felt it was the least he could do repay Thornapple for coming to his own rescue. He thought their best chance would be to stay together. He didn't have any reason to think Thornapple would lead them astray.

Peachfuzz Follows Thornapple

Peachfuzz hadn't been a part of the earlier explorations and conundrums that soon followed, but this time she felt the need to participate. It was the least she could do. And though she had little sparring skills, her bulk more than made up for it. She hopped forward, "I'll go with you."

Ladybug Participates in the harvest

Autumn time was simply the best for this little bug! Ladybug hopped with glee under the crab apple trees. She nosed each fallen fruit to test it before plucking it off the ground to toss into her ever growing pile. Sometimes the rabbits would question why Bug even liked crab apples, and she'd laugh while pointing out her fellow ladybugs along the branches - neither could resist that tart little fruit. Though, the true ladybugs were most likely after the aphids that Bug couldn't see with her emerald eyes.

Harvesting was hard work. Ladybug stopped for a moment to catch her breath and count her stock.

Carnivore Follows Thornapple

Carnivore lazily wandered to the border where she had been instructed to meet the others. Word of what was transpiring had long since traveled around - rabbits were missing. Kidnapped. She hadn't paid much mind at the start, but when an entire group of rabbits had never been rescued?

Well, now, that was interesting wasn't it?

She didn't particularly care for the rabbits that hadn't made it back yet, but she was painfully curious about what group of rabbits could be holding so many rabbits hostage. No matter what the result of this venture, it was worth coming face-to-face with the ones in charge.

The rabbit in charged wah-wah'd his way through a speech and she barely kept herself from rolling her eyes. She was thankful when he finally turned and headed toward the mystery lands and excitedly followed him into the sure chaos ahead.

Xialien Participates in the harvest

Xialien didn't particularly like harvesting crab apples, but you did what you had to in order to eat. He plucked what he could, occasionally stopping to hide so no one would see him resting. Even still, the harvest was massive and he was able to get his own large stock of crab apples to feast on.

He peeked around himself and was at least happy to note he didn't have the most OR the least, so he'd avoid most attention.

Junie Follows Thornapple

Junie was quite excited to get to finally come out and explore the source of all the rumors and gossip, the swamp! And without her dad telling her what to do! She had followed her father back home after the great confrontation at the pool, and made sure her mother and brother were safe and drank some healing water. Now it was time to investigate!

She was impatient and nearly headed into the swamp alone, but remembered how scared she had actually been last time. Until Little Brother followed her. So she stayed with the forming group. The buck's speech rallied her and she was ready for adventure! She hopped after him, sure things were going to get exciting.

Nan Participates in the harvest

A dutiful sort, Nan was out harvesting crabapples at the crack of dawn, busybody-ing about as much as her little body could manage.
Though her two extraordinarily large children were now fully grown, she made sure to gather an extra bundle for the both of them. If she'd raised them well they'd be off participating in the harvest themselves, but she couldn't help but fuss over them nonetheless.

Bounce Follows Thornapple

Bounce vaguely remembered the group of strange rabbits that had visited the pool around the same time he met his mom. Apparently they'd lead some other rabbit back to where they'd come from and never come back? And now another rabbit wanted to go looking for them. Bounce had nothing better to do, so he decided to follow along.

Poison Touch Participates in the harvest

Poison Touch went along with the other rabbits that were hopping around harvesting crab apples. They weren't the tastiest things, but they stored well and would keep her fed over the winter, so she tried to gather a good amount.

Spotted Luck had started out on this journey with Thornapple and she was determined to help him finish the job and find his brother. She was not about to let something she had started go left unfinished it was not in her personality. Yes, they had found some of the rabbits who had disappeared, but not all of them returned.

Soft Silk Participates in the harvest

The soft tabby had joined the harvest. He currently lived alone with no warren to call his own, but with winter approaching he would need the food. So joining the harvest Soft Silk began to gather up as many crab apples he could get his paws on.

Thornapple seemed heartened by the response. He heads off into the tangle of brush, doing his best to find a route free of too many snags. He isn't exactly sure if this is the route he followed before, but it seems close enough. After much squiggling and maneuvering, the party ends up in a clearing of sorts. It's mostly free of brush, but there's a pool of stagnant water instead. There does seem to be a a way across, on rocks that are just above and just below the surface. It also might be possible to go all the way around, but the undergrowth looks awfully thick.

Thornapple pauses at the edge of the water, unsure of what to do.

If your rabbit did not submit an answer in the first round they are assumed to have followed Thornapple.

The harvest seemed well underway. It seemed to be a bountiful year for crab apples. With a little more effort now, winter might not be much of a struggle at all. Throughout the swamp, as rabbits worked hard at their harvest groups of harvesters received a visitor. A small, tough looking dwarf. He immediately commanded attention, and seemed to have something to say ... Some rabbits chose to listen, others knew now was not the time to abandon their harvest.

Bolete has had a particularly bountiful harvest! She feels pretty confident keeping a crab apple for herself!

If your rabbit did not respond in the first round they are assumed to have participated in the harvest.

Bolete amassed quite a nice pile of apples and was very pleased with herself. Atop her pile was the crispiest lovliest apple she had seen all day. As she took a break she thought about eating it, it couldn't hurt right. They had so many after all. She scooted it over to a tree and was about to take a chomp when a scrappy looking bun came up nearby looking like he had something going on. Hmmm. She tucked the apple away for later and hopped over curiously to investigate the visitor with the others.

Hop across rocks!

Junie noticed the group and their leader had stopped, and joined them to see what was ahead. She saw a clearing with a swampy pond and frowned. It looked kind of gross, but their alternative of going around might take a long time and a lot of effort. She was young, and not very good at thinking things through.
"Look, I bet we can hop across these rocks! " She said excitedly, wiggling past the others to size up the leap to the first rock. No problem... she hoped. Backing up, she got a hopping start and leaped out to the rock.

Maelstrom tries to hop across the rocks

Maelstrom was never one to shirk the call of duty, and when he'd heard of rabbits lost beyond the border of the Tanglewood, he was both curious and concerned. Rumor passed around Hopscotch of a need for fellow adventurers, and with grim determination Maelstrom packed up from his lonely den near the river and made his way through hill and brush to the edge of the mysterious swamp. Already several rabbits had gathered for the cause, and Maelstrom glanced each and every one of them over with a scrutinizing look. Some of them looked young and soft, and who knew what dangers lurked beyond the wood?

When Thornapple started them off, Maelstrom was quick to follow, eyes ahead and thoughts about the party to himself. He was here to help and he'd do it, no matter who else was tagging along. Greater numbers probably meant greater success, he just hoped no one got hurt.

Maelstrom paused and raised his nose to sniff the air as Thornapple came to a stop. The scent of old water filled his nares and he wrinkled his nose, trying to shake away the smell. This was no clear, fresh river. But it was water, and Maelstrom was used to hopping back and forth across slick surfaces.

"If the water's still, it can't be that dangerous," he grumbled, eyeing the thick bushes boxing them it. Probably safer than trying to fight through those, blind to anything beyond it.

Maelstrom eyed the stones, readied himself, and jumped for the first one.

Fearless wasn’t much of a harvester. She liked the crisp taste of apple as well as the next rabbit, but harvesting meant you were distracted, at risk of being taken by a swooping hawk or something worse. While other rabbits busied themselves gathering apples, Fearless watched over them, her sharp eyes narrowed and darting between the thick bushes and the grey skies overhead. She’d protect her fellow rabbits while they continued the important duty of gathering food for the winter.

She spotted the strange dwarf approaching their group and was on high alert immediately, stamping her foot and huffing. Who was this? Was he dangerous?

He seemed to want their attention and Fearless was going to find out what this was all about. She approached the dwarf with her head held high, scrutinizing him as she neared.

Soft Silk participates in the harvest

Ignoring the new comer for now. Soft Silk continued to harvest crap apples. After all it was why he was here. Even if he was just a single bun in his burrow he needed to make sure he had enough stored for the winter. Who knows what could happen between now and then.
