Aspenswirl had been getting lucky that the badger had been missing its attacks, but it seemed that now that it seemed to be on its last bits of energy, that the badger was coming in force. When the warrior was hit, Aspenswirl was slammed to the ground and he gasped for breath; the wind was knocked from his lungs.

Scrambling to his paws, he tried to land another again, only to stumble and miss entirely.

Thymepaw let out a wail when his mentor was attacked by the badger - Aspenswirl couldn't get hurt! No one could get hurt - where would they go if they - if they... He shuddered and regained himself as best as he could. He would get a hit in on this badger so help him, he would! He lunged at the badger again, but his paws slipped over the thick pelt of the creature. Thymepaw snarled his frustration. He could've been certain that he would've made the attack! Was it bad luck?

Aspenswirl saw the badger's claws descend onto his apprentice and adrenaline coursed through him. As Thymepaw crumpled to the ground, Aspenswirl darted for the badger, jumping at the large creature. In a furious frenzy, claws and teeth lay into the beast. How dare this mangled beast injure his apprentice.

"Thymepaw, run!" He shouted, though he didn't know if Thymepaw was still awake to hear him.

(Aspenswirl lands a hit for 5 damage!)

(Thymepaw misses his attack on the badger!)

Thymepaw felt his fur come apart in the badger's claws and collapsed. He barely registered his mentor coming to his defense and instead found himself looking disorientedly at his pelt. He'd never seen so much of his skin before and his stomach churned. Would his mother be able to put him back together? Would she still love him, even with how he marred his pretty pelt? His throat tightened and he whimpered. He wanted to press his face into Bone's pelt and hide away from the world. Would he ever see her again, or was he going to die here and disappear forever? His claws twitched, he couldn't fathom attacking the badger again, but... if he was going to die anyway, shouldn't he at least make a final stand to try and protect his loved ones from getting hurt?

Aspenswirl took the blow from the badger, almost gladly, so long as it was damage away from his apprentice. He continued to slash and bite and yowl at the badger. Could he bring any attention from LostClan's camp? He continued to fight the beast, even after it stopped fighting back. It wasn't for many minutes later, when Aspenswirl's energy gave out entirely. The badger's eyes had rolled back in its skull and a deep wound in its throat showed evidence of its demise.

After a few moments, Aspenswirl found it in him to drag himself to Thymepaw, who was still breathing, but barely conscious. Picking the apprentice up by his scruff, the mentor dragged him back towards LostClan.

The badger didn't do me in, but his parents might. At least they got to return at all, to see their loved ones again.
