Welcome to the Clan Patrol + Encounter Guide: the thread to tell you everything you need to know about how to go on Patrols if you own a Clan cat or have Encounters if you own a Kittypet or Loner!
While patrols and encounter prompts are entirely optional, they can be a fun way to broaden your experience in roleplaying in the shop. In Clan Patrols, your warriors can go out hunting for prey needed for the Clan, or they could find enemies to chase away from the territory! Both danger and fun can also be found in the lives of loners or kittypets, who may be called upon to defend their own, smaller territories from foxes roaming the woods or raccoons rummaging in your Twolegs' trash bins!
If you decide to fight these enemies, rather than chasing them away, you may find yourself in a dangerous encounter. If you see these encounters through to the end then they could give you patrol/life encounter exclusive scar edits or an entry into a Death Raffle. Fear not, the shop will never force any of your cats into joining a Death Raffle. The only exception of this is with Clan leaders, who have multiple lives and a duty to protect their Clans from danger. Only with your explicit and written consent can your cat ever be entered into a death raffle. You can read more about Death Raffles in this attached link.
Along with Patrols, Clan cats also have a table of prompts for Mentor/Apprentice Training. These prompts are not dangerous in nature, they're meant to be a learning experience. If you've been looking for any prompts or inspiration when it comes to getting that Mentor and Apprentice roleplay, which comes with Death Point and Roleplay Bonuses, you've got it here.
The Apprentice Training table can be found the Settings section of the Clan subforum. This is the same section that you can find the table for Clan Patrols. Similarly, loner or kittypet Encounters can be located in the Settings sections of their respective locations. You can find the direct links listed at the bottom of this guide!
Something to note is that loners and kittypets have more freedom than Clan cats do in where they can go. Clan cats are bound by the territories they live in and so can (usually) only be found patrolling within their own territories. Loners, and the adventurous kittypet, can move in-between the subforums of The Settlement, The Outer Wilds and The Suburbs. Neither loners nor kittypets can use the patrol prompts of Clan cats unless they officially join that Clan and renounce their loner or kittypet certification.
Now - how DO you go on a patrol? First you'll look at the table listed in the settings of your Clan or territory preference. In the first post of your patrol you'll roll 1d6 to get the prompt for your patrol or encounter. You can begin roleplaying your character/s after you receive your prompt! If you roll a battle encounter from the prompt table, tag either belloblossom or Blinded By Silence and we will be along to play as the NPC enemy that was rolled from the encounter! You can see the stats of your cats below, but only staff will know the stats of your enemies!
If you'd like a little extra help, here is our Mock Battle which offers more insight into what a battle encounter will look like. Remember: these battles will never do your cat any harm unless you specifically agree to it - we will double and triple check to make sure that you're alright with your cat being entered in a Death Raffle and never enter your cat without permission.
Please tag all clan patrols with [PATROL], tag all encounters with [ENCOUNTER] and tag all apprentice training rps with [TRAINING]. Thank you!
While patrols can be fun and aid in getting to know your cats better they are also completely optional! If you have other ideas for roleplays you want to incorporate you're more than welcome to. If you're interested in roleplaying something similar in these prompts but don't wish to run the risk of danger, that's okay too. Cats of the Sun encourages the use of these patrols, but they are not an enforced practice within the shop if you'd rather not use them. Patrols and encounters are the only way you can get access to the scar edits for your cats for the indefinite future.
