The end of the day proved to be a busy one; while some residents went about their business, and others gathered at the local watering hole in hopes to glean a bit of happenstance of the odd occurence,
most ponies in Stillwater seemed to want to catch some glimpse of the strangers themselves. Those wandering towards the mayor's office would be sorely disappointed, though, as neither hide nor hair of anypone could be seen. Those curious enough to head over towards the Bywater Estate itself, however, would find what they were looking for - and probably a bit more than they were bargaining for! Apparently gossip travelled quickly in that little town; it spread fast enough that a
crowd was gathered by the time the sun began to sink low in the sky, and at the forefront of it all was the mayor, irritatedly attempting - and failing - to shoo people away from the property.
"What're y'all doin'? This ain't a circus, it's just an
estate sale. Ain't y'all ever seen someone buyin' a buildin' before?!"
His efforts amounted to little against the nosy onlookers, however, with the group dispersing only to reform a short time later - several times over. What he was shooing them from was oddly uncertain; it wasn't until quite late in the evening that one of the so-called strangers arrived to speak with the mayor, and then they were
certainly suspicious to the already rather wary crowd. The pony came from inside the house - perhaps a very long inspection? - and was covered in a thick robe, obscuring most of their features. They spoke briefly to the mayor, though for any late comers or stragglers in the group, they did offer a brief smile - with a snout being just about
all that was visible.
The next day...
The town was abuzz with curious, uncertain chatter about the strangers that so few saw the day before. For someones with the wealth to buy such a useless piece of land, they certainly weren't very friendly or chatty, were they? Or so the rumors went - because how could they be if they'd not shown up to accept their housewarming gifts or greet their new neighbors?! Still, others did relent that they might be just a bit
shy, though the mood still was, at best, lukewarm.
The mayor was seen to have resumed his position in his office, visible mid-morning as he left for an early lunch and, as was soon made clear, to reassure the townsfolk there was really nothing to worry about! Obviously, he was in full politician mode, wandering from business to business to put on a cheerful face and attempt to combat the already rampant rumour mill.
As to the strangers, despite the whispers of the townsfolk,
one of the new residents - if there were even multiples at all, but who would buy such a large place on their lonesome? - was indeed seen just after the sleepy town's awakening, visiting a general store with shiny, new bits to buy
quite the assortment of food, then shortly after for a fresh batch of construction tools from the local hardware store.
